I find it a good place to write things out and try to figure things out, sorta like a 'work in progress' type of thing. Also come to find topics that also interest me in knowing from other people who post. So if i ever want to do something similar, i can see how people get around their problems. Also come here instead of blizzard's forums because there is a lot more responses/traffic here than there. What brings you to this place? :D
well, it depends on the forum. for this forum, its to ask for or assist with help on a project. I remember when I first joined, I got lots of help from the knowledgeable users here on mapster, so I try to help out people less adept than me on their projects. paying it forward if you will.
on the other hand, o go to general starcraft forums to discuss things from balance to strats to possible updates.
I'm still around to find what people are doing, help people with their problems, and post my art contributions. Here is where the official thread for my exntension mods keeps going too.
I check Blizzard's forums mainly to read official news, and to see if they are fixing bugs that get reported. Now and then I check other threads but they're not really important to me.
Yeah, there are some here whom contribute, time to time, large or small. I'm afraid I'm the latter case, given all I've produced so far was a single tutorial on basic AI (Which there's a second psrt in progress), some testing for EivindL and, recently a for-necessity set of Alphabet Decals which I've posted the first this afternoon. I usually forum because I believe I can do something, here. Make a slight difference. That's still on heavy progress too, I fear... :(
The thing that got me to stick around was the weekly terraining exercise, it was something to do in my spare time and sometimes get critiqued on my work, I have certainly improved in my methods for those pictures. I also like to help out here and there, contribute to a conversation that interests me every once in a while, it is really a place that you are able to toss your two cents into, and some person on the planet is able to, as GnaReffotsirk said, interact with you.
Also, in some forums more than others, exposure to new things, tutorials, or what be it, It can also be a decant place to get feedback, or as you are doing now, asking a random question to a very diverse group of people. I also get to meet new people, heck, I would have never met Fulla and started working with him on his games and eventually helping him out with his youtube channel if it was not for this website. It is sometimes a great place to find something of worth do to, whenever I am open, I sometimes try and contact people to see if they need any feedback on visual aesthetics, or help with terrain that both looks good and compensates for performance.
Also, there is a sense of community in a place like this, although we get our feathers ruffled every once in a while, or I read a post that makes me think "jack@$$" it has generally been a fairly behaved community aside from 3 or 4 characters that a few of the people who have been a-round for a while would most certainly remember if someone bothered to bring the topic up (and please don't in this thread, even the mention of these people by name can flare up some commotion.) It also helps that a few moderators do truly care about the well being of the website, even though busy lives and an unwillingness from curse to fix or let those mods fix a few issues that have been around since the beginning.
It can also be a bit of entertainment, or relaxing to read another person's thoughts. I am not sure how mozared feels about the thread that flared up about him, aside from a few, if we are honest, crossed the line of "okay", it was absolutely brilliant despite being completely accidental, and showed a bit of life that was still in the community. on the relaxing side, it was good to read over some other people's opinions here, I have many times simply read a thread without responding to it, or started to write a response and decided not to toss in my unneeded opinion on something.
Overall, I sometimes come to be entertained, I often come here to connect, I check my PM box at least once a week, and at times once a day to see if anyone wants to talk with me, I sometimes want to get information, check up on some projects people have been doing, get updated on what is currently going on in the community to check up on it, and sometimes to contribute, or keep the activities (the weekly terrianing exercise) alive and kicking by contributing and improving. So depending on the day and my mood I "forum" for many reasons.
Edit: it is also important to mention, it is a great feeling to help someone out, or very interesting and satisfying at times to look over a response to something that you said, again as GnaReffotsirk said "Interaction." (arguably this is simply a more wordy version of his post)
because it is the new communication vector of the 21st century
..it started with workplaces (where efficiency was the "declared" goal, so it worked)
.. now it has grown social (bof)
When sc's editor made its success (maps from community for community) .. internet wasn't ready.. now that it is .. we enjoy our passion with an assurance that we are not alone
Making maps means different things to different people, but our current times will always try to make ourselves "part of a greater whole"
i "forum" on mapster coz they never banned me (not to mention it is the premiere sc2 site)
i "forumed" on tl because of its circulation and to get to mapmakers scared to "mapster".. my illegitimate ban from it is why i don't anymore
i only forum to get to people that i could not get to without, and by that i mean "meet" them and share and have fun

I started here because I rapidly saw that the official forum gaves me less place to criticate things from Starcraft. I feel free to say whatever I want and I must say rhat the crew, like Moz or dr evil are very easy to join and have fast answers.
Long answer: multiple reasons. As mentioned, the interaction with others is usually fun. I've met people here that I get along with quite well, and have even made what I'd call a friend (who I have actually visited in real life, even though he's 2000 km's away from me). On top of that, the way forums are set up, they allow you to not only improve your spelling and grammar, but also your logic and reasoning skills. And then there's the fact that Mapster is dedicated to StarCraft 2, allowing you to give and receive help when mapping and allowing you to discuss the universe in general.

Interaction.
Whatever you do, wholeheartedly, moment by heartfelt moment, becomes a tool for the expression of your very soul.

I started here because I rapidly saw that the official forum gaves me less place to criticate things from Starcraft. I feel free to say whatever I want and I must say rhat the crew, like Moz or dr evil are very easy to join and have fast answers.
Short answer: primarily because I enjoy it.
Long answer: multiple reasons. As mentioned, the interaction with others is usually fun. you mean, discuss the galaxy no?
Yeah exactly and the forum is dedicated almost exclusively to mapping, so you have almost no spams or useless thread.
@tatatatate: Go
Plus this site always gets really great deals on remodeling kitchens.
Jokes aside it's not a bad community these days and there's always something interesting to discuss.
Oh my god what is UP with those bots man?!
