An RL friend introduced me to an sc2 forum RPG about a year back on another forum. Unfortunately it died... Then one of the participants started up another one (I sorta lost motivation there), and now we (My RL friend, and the one that started the the second RPG, and I) started another one, but the forum we were on is growing rather quiet and the people that were interested in the forum RPG left... So we decided to try and move the RPG here, and now I'm making this thread to see if anyone is interested in participating.
For those who want an explanation of what it is:
Generally, you have your character(s) and you write narrative for them - as it's a forum RPG, you'll be interacting with other participants and whatever the game masters throw at you. It's sort of like writing a story together with a few other people.
This particular RPG is set mostly in the Starcraft universe (with mostly I mean the actual locations and factions are made up, but we use all the starcraft races, units and lore).
You can make one or more characters belonging to a flagship and leading an army on it. (Like Raynor in the campaign - You've got one or more powerful hero characters plus a nice ship and army) You get a starting budget of 300 "points" (Yes, very creative name for a currency, I agree) and use those to pay for your army, characters and flagship (Don't worry, we've got online calculators and even a java program to calculate everything for you). As you play, you'll most likely end up doing missions for various factions (Or just explore uncharted star systems on your own or whatever you feel like), and that will earn you more points, allowing you to buy additional unit tech and upgrades, restock on army supply or upgrade your ship and characters. You can even try and colonize a planet (That's expensive though), which in turn allows you to control a faction and extra flagships/armies.
Your character can be an honorable soldier, a ruthless pirate, a powerful mercenary, a rebel, terrorist, traitor, hero. There are many factions you can work with - or against. And your character can be part of any of the 3 races.
So yeah, is anyone interested in a forum RPG? If I get some responses, I'll start on adapting the formatting of the info posts to work on mapster. I'll give more details with those posts, but if you want to know certain details feel free to ask and I'll answer.
And just fyi, we would start the RP around the beginning of June, so that people can get most of their finals and D3 behind them.
We've already got everything set up. As I said, we made a forum RPG, but activity on the forum was declining and the people that were interested in RPGs left before the thing could really start. We've done the brainstorming there about 3/4 of a year ago or something ridiculous like that, then a few months ago we started the RPG we want to move over here now and adjusted some things. We've got rules and factions all set up already. Technically seen, we could start the thing tomorrow, but we'd rather wait due to May being a busy month for most people, especially now that D3 is around the corner.
So yes, we have rules.
I'll be one of the 3 GMs. We have one for each race, I'm in charge of terrans. I control all terran NPCs, the other GMs control their own NPCs. One of us will outrank the other two though, just in case there's an argument we can't resolve.
Everyone is welcome to join the RP. Generally, if people quit, they end up quitting before they really start doing anything. And a forum RPG is actually a really easy way to boost your post count ;) I would know, that's where I have my 300+ posts from sc2armory from.
also, here are the links to the forum RPG I've been talking about:
Character creation / Out of Character thread: http://sc2armory.com/forums/topic/23161/page:1
In Character / Story thread: http://sc2armory.com/forums/topic/23219/page:1
You'll find most of the rules, important characters and things like that in the first link. Feel free to comment, possibly even toss around character ideas, based on those posts.
The second link is the in character/story thread. You can use that as an example to see how this is played, and possibly get to know the important NPCs
If there's enough interest that we're confident that we can keep this thing running even during the exam and diablo period, we could possibly start the RP here on mapster really soon. That's just my opinion, will have to run that by the other 2 before I can say for certain.
So I'm assuming from reading that there isn't any editor work involved in this. I may do a bit from time to time if I decide to commit to mapster (it seems like a ghosttown here so far....). What am I expected to provide, then? Simply a list of "my character" and "my army", and do you have a list somewhere for point prices and whatnot?
I'll read tomorrow through the rules but you'll better prepae a good story. ;P
As a game/story designed- to-be I'm a little bit ambitious.
Another question: You said there will be 3 GMs... will it become a global story or will everything devided into 3 pieces with a little bit of influence with the other two? I think it's quite hard to involve different setting and races (esp. Starcraft II) which should be allied in a strange team. But completly seperate things are some kind of redundant.
Actually, I'm a bit reluctant to join on this project, so I'll wait and look into things after the rules have been set and some participation goes, and possibly after I get a little bit more recognition.
Uh... I'm talking about a forum RPG here. This has got nothing to do with the content of the website, apart from it relating to starcraft. Originally this was on a melee forum, not mapping one, so no, no editor required. There are rules and guidelines on how you make your characters and army (Check the links i provided), then you write in narrative form to participate in the game. Just take a look at the links, I think showing an example is easier than explaining in a few words.
EDIT: 2 posts while I was writing this. Talking of humor, in the first RP I played, I had a group of pirates. I stole the GM's flagship and ransomed one of his executors. Fun times. And the pirates are bloody ridiculous :p And they're in this RP as NPCs as well.
The rules have been set. I linked another forum further up. Just to make it clear again: I'm not making an RP from scratch. I've got one that never really got much attention due to players having left the forum before the thing could really get started and RL issues, we decided to move it over here as there are far more people visiting this forum, which in turn means more participants. So we've got everything set up already, I just made this thread to see if anyone is interested. Apparently people are, so we're gonna start the RP here. The question now is just when. The other 2 GMs currently aren't on skype, and I should be leaving as well soon, so I'll talk with them later.
I don't care about recognition or anything, your post count doesn't matter and shouldn't hold you back! Feel free to join right from the start.
The RPG takes place in what we called the "Eurim Sector". 2 years (I think. Mightve been 4. this thing has been inactive for a while, need to re-read our info list...) before the start of the RPG the zerg tried to take over the sector. One of the protoss, executor Erana, against direct orders allied with the terrans and helped Dr. Neal Smith build the Arken, a massive spaceship that is capable of destroying planets. The Arken blew a massive hole into zerg forces, heavily damaging the planet of Apoca and ending the war. Erana was imprisoned for treason, which created some internal political problems in the protoss Imperium and part of it split off and now calls itself Erana's order.
The Terran Coalition was founded at the beginning of the zerg war with the Quantum Legion in charge due to it owning the Arken. Now that the zerg are no longer a threat, the Quantum Legion's peace loving ideology and military inaction is causing some political tension as well. The Coalition wasn't able to protect all systems from the zerg, so another faction composed mostly of fringe worlds was formed and they call themselves the Outsiders and they really dislike the Coalition and wish to see it destroyed.
The zerg is divided into 6 major broods. After the loss at Apoca, the overmind went quiet (It's alive, don't worry, just quiet) and the broods are now fighting among each other for dominance.
The protoss... Well, as I'm the terran GM, I know the terrans well, not the other factions :p The Ancestral Protoss Imperium is the dominant faction, Erana's order is pissed off at it due to Erana's "unjust" imprisonment, then there are the Exiled Tribes, the Tama tribe and the Wandering Tribes, the latter being rather antisocial and mostly staying quiet and out of everyone's way. THere's more info in the thread.
anyway, at first we'll do our best to keep races apart at the start - not for long, maybe 10-30 posts, or even less. The RP is titled "Embers of Peace", and those embers are about to be extinguished. The peace won't last for long, and it's up to the players to start screwing everything up. The Outsiders are getting bolder, the Order is planning on busting out Erana, and I have no idea what the zerg are up to, but one of the players was tasked with sabotaging Apoca (Terran world). We absolutely expect the factions to start wars. Shit will hit the fan sooner or later.
There is nothing really preventing players from one race interacting with another, apart from common sense. You won't just fly into zerg space as a terran - You'll get your ass handed to you on a gooey platter, and the Coalition is not willing to start a war. Until the zerg make a move, the Coalition will remain still. If individual players from different races wish to work together, that's absolutely fine, as long as they keep it reasonable - A protoss won't just buy a random zerg a beer.
The reason we have 3 GMs is to keep the races more unique, and to divide the workload. If we had only one GM, he would get lazy on characters and factions and we would end up with a lot less of them, a lot of which might end up ignored. This way all of the factions and characters get the attention they deserve.
Hello, I am the Lord of the Swarm and the Madman that originally cooked up this mess.
To answer some questions: I encouraged all of the GMs to cook up some big nastyness, most of which is still waiting in the wings (I've been told of most of it, I think it will be fun). We just never got to any of it as the story barely started and none of the major Mcguffins were picked up.
I designed the various broods to give opportunities for villainy, monstrosity, overwhelming mayhem, and any would-be 'tortured heroes'. There is room for it all. However, I strongly suggest that if you are new to Table-top gaming, you pick your allies carefully. It is far easier to have the backing of one of the more Influential Broods then to be on your own, especially when it comes to a fight.
Lastly, I didn't know I had this account (and am pretty sure I got it on MMO-Champion way back when), but as my post count should be pretty low (I will know for sure after this post hits) post count should not be considered a barrier to entry.
Orloth
P.S. - <.< Oh look! A horsey. I've got to find myself a scarier horsey.
Added a poll. Wanna know when you guys would prefer to start this :)
Also sort of a bump so that it shows up in the recent activity thingy on the frontpage for the EU people.
Hello. I am Almaity's "RL friend" and the protoss Game Warden for this RPG. We would appreciate it if everyone who's interested informed themselves about the nature of this FRPG (using the links Almaity provided) before definitely deciding whether they will play or not.
Any chance I could be a part of the Order of Chicken-Manatee-Hybrids, returning to slay the puny human race they created 1000 years ago in 7 quick days?
seeing as the votes are in favor of "DO IT NOW!!!", we're gonna post the character creation / out of character thread soon(tm) (Currently changing all the formatting of the posts into HTML so that we can use spoiler buttons to make the posts less.... Well, less fits quite nicely. It's pretty long)
So feel free to toss around character ideas already, I'll try and get the thread up quickly.
EDIT: Wind told me to make it clear that this doesn't mean you can't join at a later date. You can join whenever you want, it doesn't have to be the very start of the RP.

Not sure how active I'd be, but I'd surely step in once or twice.
Yeah, I really like to start a FRPG again, but first a few questions:
Do you prepare a rule set, or do we want to make a idea collection?
Are you want to make the GM or will it be someone other?
Just for emergency we can also use other games like DnD or Shadowrun.
But I'm very interested in a FRPG.
