ok as the name tells you i am needing help to make sure i have all the units zergs have had in the games.
right now
hydralisk, queen (starcraft 2), zergling, roach, ultralisk, omegalisk, hunter killer, brutalisk, banegling, brood lord, overseer, over lord, corruptor, lurker, drone, and infestor. ya i know they all in starcarft 2, but as in another forum i have on here i tell ya they now have all their abilities and upgrades renabled in game. Also all buildings.
now if someone would be kind enough to lend me complete units or walkme through how to make a unit using wireframe, textures and etc i would be much obliged,
units i still want to add
starcraft 1: defiler, queen (starcraft 1), devourer, and guardian
starcraft 1 buildings: creep colony, queen's nest, defiler mound, sunken colony, and spore colony
starcraft 2: leviatian, swam guardian (actually need help on how to make a hive give birth to a leviatian, and how to make swarm guardian selectable and have movement).
all canceled units would be nice, for both games, like i said i would appreciate someone helping me with either lending me these models, or helping me make them.
@karasux12: Go You forgot the Scourge from SC1, it is already in the game. There are custom models for most SC1 units, I believe you can find them in the Assets section here on Mapster. All the "hero" versions for SC1 units like Devouring Ones, Unclean Ones, Kukulzas, the Torrasque, Matriarch, Yggdrasill and so on.
Also for scrapped/unused units you have the alpha Swarm Host/Fatty, Feederlings, Pygalisks (which are actually small Ultralisks), Infested Civilians and Aberrations.
I can't help you with the troube of creating models and their textures, but for unit icons and wireframes I open the model in the editor's previewer, move them around to get a good pose and printscreen it in order to wrok on it with Photoshop.
@karasux12: Go I need to tell you if your map is all about adding all the units, then you can already find maps like that on Battlenet, you may want to check them first before going on working on it.
its not all about that. its just what i am focusing on at the moment. i want all units, with their complete list of abilities and upgrades to be the first thing completed, without glitchs or losing units from picking others. for right now i am also adding upgrades that i think the races are missing, like the zerg building armor, and more powerful protoss sheild upgrade.
also i have played alot of the maps saying they have all units, etc. usually their is something that keeps me from having fun with them, like having to pick clans or something.
i thinking of making the maps a story. not sure yet. also i wanting to make unique terrain and units. another thing is i am looking for realistic units that look like blizzard would actually use them to put into the game, but i want a background explaining what assimilated them into the zerg, or whatever race they are.
@karasux12: Go I understand, what you are trying to do right now is really good to get some experience with the data editor, I started with the same issues, and you sound like you at least played my own map lol, because it's about factions, broods and tribes. I wasn't in any way putting you down, comparison is always important, specially because Battlenet has already thousands of map, many of them simply abandoned.
If you get stuck with anything related to data PM me and I'll try to help.
actually i liked your map best out of them, thought the factions thing was pretty cool, but it not what i am aiming for. I want it to seem as the zerg have amassed all their collected DNA to make the swarm stronger (focusing on them first), and i am not sure if i can open a map and somehow export the units i want, but i do not think the editors that put there time into those would appreciate me ripping them off.
@karasux12: Go I can copy custom data from map to map, you can do it through the editor but sometimes it gets bugged and you have to fix some things, but you an also export the data xml files from the map using MPQEditor and copy chunks of data from xml to your own xml files.
I don't know about most map makers, but I feel that as long you only copy small useful bits of data (like some units and their abilities, upgrades) and not the map's main ideas and heavy modifications it is not a problem.
EDIT: You may also want to include some abilities/upgrades planned for the HoTS expansion, I use some of them in my maps. If you need the icons you can find them in the Assets section (link in my signature).
i have had some luck with the copy units and abilities before, also have had them mess up. i can try that first, and give the makers credit, would make my map faster to make, just dont want others thinking i ripping them off, not my intentions at all, wanting to make a map with the grandest battles lol.
btw do you know anything about hte roverlisk? seen it listed on the starcraft wiki but dont know much about it? if you dont do you know anyone i might ask to make a unit for me? i am not good at that yet either, taking college to become a game designer so should be learning pretty quick when class starts.
and for HoTS, i was debating on adding those units and abilitis when it came out, or now...
@karasux12: Go I've never heard about a Roverlisk. If by creating the unit you mean create the unit's model you proably won't find a person willing to do it for you. 3D models are the main lacking resource for us map makers because only a few people around can create good models and those people are usually busy with huge projects. But you an always post your request iand hope to get lucky.
well in a few months ill have 3dsmax (free with my college class), so then i can make my own and ya i a big fan and never heard anything about it until i was on there. and starcraft 1 models, i ant that game anyways but my question is wheni get it, can i just somehow export those models to number 2 or do i need to do something special
@karasux12: Go There's a 3dsmax plugin you need to use to export them to sc2's m3 format. Search the forums and you will find lots of useful information about 3d modelling for SC2.
