First of all, this is not a whining thread about the current popularity system. Please keep the thread on topic and refrain from making it into a discussion about why the system is bad and how to make it better.
First of all, does the popularity(time played) increase if you create the game with your friends and play privately? Does it reset when you release a new patch?
The reason I'm asking this is because the popularity of my map is randomly resetting and changing. From stuff like 2 minutes to 55 seconds to 0 seconds. Back and forth.
A game takes way longer and I've played several games online with friends(a total of maybe an hour or so at least)
I believe updates don't reset popularity, or else we would see page 1 maps go poof and not be able to get all the way back up the list. I don't know for a fact it has to be public to count (I think it dose.) If you care about popularity always make a game open to public before you start it.
Dose going between 2 minutes played to none really matter? If you get it higher dose it keep doing this?
Since I made my map public, I've played it with friends for a total amount of a couple of hours. Yet the times when I looked at the popularity, it was at low numbers like that.
Im going to write a huge monumental FAQ on the popularity system. Its workings. The difference and reasoning between it and Wc3 B.net. Etc etc.
Will probably post it tomorrow sometime.
This would be interesting to read. Just make sure to break it up into paragraphs so it isn't a wall of awesome text and is instead a wall of readable awesome text :P
Rodrigo is saying if you click create game and don't click 'open to public' after clicking create that the time does not count. This is good to know, I had not heard this til now. Interesting...
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Stuff I've worked on: Carbot's StarCrafts Mod (2014-present) StarCraft 2 Hotkey Trainer (2010) | Mineralz Evolution (2011+) | Dungeon Legacy (2013+) | Phoenix TLMC 4 Entry (2014) Assisted: City of Tempest (2012) | BarCraft (2013) | Poker Defense (2014) and a few more.

I have knew about this for months. :)
Not that it much help to promote map other than putting it to Fun or Not list.
I have the problem of 50% of the players of iCJug hosting private matches without opening to public first. It's sad just to think of how much popularity is wasted.

Well you could make the whole FAQ containing one sentence, but I'll read it, just in case there is something secret and mysterious about the system I didn't knew yet.
Still, why does the popularity decrease? Is it hours played / week(or day) or is it just simply hours played? The popularity was at 31h an hour ago but now it's down to 21h.

No. You have to open to public, or the map won't increase popularity.
It's already open to public but when I say play privately, I mean going into a private lobby(pressing create game instead of join game)
