They thought they knew better about how to do the battle net custom map system and stuck to their guns up to the release. Then shortly afterwards they saw they were wrong, admitted it and stated they are now working on a better one after listening to further playerbase feedback, that's good enough for me.
Now considering the time frame of this rant being probably mere hours/days before blizzard has stated they're pushing out the 1.1 patch, I think that says a lot about its nature.
Umm thats exactly what you said... We said something, Blizzard said something,... We havnt heard back, so its time for the whole community to QQ, thats EXACTLY what you just said, and what I typed. We dont see as many blue posts because THIS IS NOT WOW. They dont have the same people that like to post updates. Would I like an update, heck yeah I would. Do I need one to know they are taking care of it? no, I dont. When its done, its done.. QQ about it on their forums or to them is not going to speed it up. This isnt politics... this is programming and game design, lawl.

they admitted it was wrong by beta. They also said that the changes would take a few months after release.
Ahh didn't know they'd admitted it even in the beta stage. I can still appreciate that they wanted to get a feel on how many maps and of what kinds were going to be handled by the system before making adjustments to it.
Blizzard is fcking done and you all know it. The new generation of gamers are full of trolls and ignorance and its only going to get worse. Why? Well because the less intelligent the consumer gets the less the company will give a fck about them,
Why is Blizzard done? They just broke the record for the fastest selling RTS by selling 3 million or-so copies within 2 days. I would call it a fcking success.
I'm disappointed to Starcraft 2, because I expected the game of the century, a revelation, the king of all game gods. But what we got is "just" an excellent game. Not more than that.
You're right about the new generation. But not only gamers. You can almost see the stupidity gushing out of 75% of those under twenty.
But it's the lower standard that causes games to get worse.
In the early ages of video games a game was done when it was complete. But nowadays you get DLCs, expansion packs and patches to complete the original game.
Companies noticed that they don't have to finish their games anymore to sell them. Thus they're shipping them earlier to get the money and the time to continue working.
The worst thing about this is that the change happened so gradually. If it was one sudden change of mentality the fans and gamers would've protested and stopped buying, but the slow change creeped into the minds of the customers.

But more blue posts with some updates would stop the raging masses of spilling their intellectual nonsense all over the forum.

Sadly it's much more politics than it should be. Otherwise there would be a better company-customer communication.
Actually the major difference is that back then games would ship with breaking bugs and you had to deal with it because there was no way to patch a cartridge.
This rose-tinted nostalgia bullshit makes you look stupider than the people you're criticizing.
The problem I'm finding is that many of the people complaining about the popularity system are the same ones who make bad maps and wonder how it never got onto the first few pages of custom maps.
It's like the people who complain Zerg is imbalanced. They play Zerg badly, wonder how they're being trashed and then say that it's because Zerg are underpowered.
I like the new system.... I dont want to wait for a "finished" game, I want to play as soon as I can, fix it now or later, one way I get to play, the other way I dont. Im happy the industry has changed this way.
and your right, it is more politics now, but thats not th point I was making, Politics can be speed up, programming and there development, not so much,

Plato was a philosopher, I'm just your average guy. I am in this group under twenty. But when I look around I'm sometimes horrified..
Well, I guess humanity is moving straight towards hell for thousands of years already, why not keep going a little longer.
And sure, there were game breaking bugs in some games. Heck there was an abundance of horrible games where you'd hope the developers burn in hell.
Still the trend goes more and more towards shipping unfinished games. In some years at the latest we'll see games that basically only live through DLCs, where you'll only buy the basic construct at first.
I'm still torn between welcoming the change and dreading it. (Some) companies will probably think of this as a fine way to make some more money and I'll end up dreading it.
as I said.. I think people look at it the wrong way. Nothing "time wise" has changed. We can wait X months for a finished game Like we use to, or wait a great deal less and get to play while its being fixed, one way we pay $60 to wait and play finished or we pay $60 to njoy now while they fix... your choice?
What I fear is that they charge $60 for buying the game, then need months to fix it and meanwhile charge another $15 for additional content that I would have expected to be part of the original game for free.
That's what I mean with half-finished games. Not that there are some bugs, but that there are things missing.
Also, after you bought it the company is under no obligations to fix anything. Good thing if they take their time to do it right, bad thing if they just don't care about certain aspects.
Now, that won't happen with Sc2 I guess. It's more of a general phobia.
I agree with the $ on DLC to a degree, just wasnt bringing that part of it up cause it does not related to sc2 =P
Some companies have come out and said "This was not something we would have ever even put in the game" So dlc in that case is nice, and a lot of companies do just add extra things...
HOWEVER, for the ones that do release games were they know they are going to charge more for |content|.. that I dont like... But its hard to tell when they are doing it because it was rushed, or because its a way to keep the game going longer.

The problem I'm finding is that many of the people complaining about the
popularity system are the same ones who make bad maps and wonder how it
never got onto the first few pages of custom maps. It's like the people
who complain Zerg is imbalanced. They play Zerg badly, wonder how
they're being trashed and then say that it's because Zerg are
underpowered.
I dont consider my maps to bad, but i dont consider them to be great. I would call the Planetary Boss series a great hit during beta and i had lots of feedback and support from this very community. Starcraft then hit release and it never took off at all, thats cool i can accept that.. so i moved on. Haunted Temple was my first success if you count success by your position on the popularity list. Some issues were in the game so i spend day and night fixing them and i ended up doing 4 major content updates in one day. Blizzard then reset the popularity list and it never came back, now you could go off and say well thats because nobody wanted to play. Wrong, i still to this day get people messaging me about how awesome the new Haunted Temple looked and how they could play it.
Now i have Doodad Hunt, this is by far my most success (Once again using the definition based off popularity). It was not expected to hit first page in less then two days like it did being that it was only a favor to the many people that wanted to play it but it was in closed beta, so i opened it. Doodad Hunt dropped to page 2-3 after a few weeks as i started adding in a map rotation system to give it more variety rather then playing the same map over and over. Blizzard has been insanely resetting the popularity list over and over, Doodad Hunt has kept coming back after about 6 resets until today.
Today Blizzard reset the popularity list and it started to come back (Note that this was when i made my little rage thread), ok cool whatever im working on a huge update to give it 14-16 player support so thankfully its still on 3rd page.. thats all i really need imo is a small community of followers who like what i do. Then guess what? Blizzard reset the popularity list AGAIN, yes AGAIN within a matter of minutes of me posting a thread on not only these forums but the bnet forums (which they deleted 2 minutes before the reset). I'm not to sure if i'm exactly on topic (of my own topic lol) but this is how this makes me feel if you wonder why i get so upset. You can sit here and pledge your fanboism to Blizzard and pretend like this is not a big deal, but the fact is that if you really have followed this company for 12+ years this should bother you more then anyone.
I love Blizzard, and thats why i actually give a shit about whats going on here rather then playing dead and staying blind to what imo is one of the greatest video game companies to ever be turning into the exact opposite of what made them so unique and great to support.
Yup, pretty much any time I see a company boasting its already got DLC lined up for a game before it's even out I get wary. Bioware & Ubisoft...I'm looking at you guys and closing my wallet whenever I see that. (and Bethesda almost got that treatment too except damnit FO3 just looked way too fun)
What I fear is that they charge $60 for buying the game, then need months to fix it and meanwhile charge another $15 for additional content that I would have expected to be part of the original game for free.
That's what I mean with half-finished games. Not that there are some bugs, but that there are things missing.
If you don't want the game unfinished, wait for a release with the DLC in it. (Ex: GotY editions)
And if you really don't want to pay for DLC...You know what to do.
So don't you dare say you dislike that they're charging 15 more bucks for DLC that should be part of the game to make it feel like a complete game at release. You have no reason to hate it, as you can easily get the DLC for free. Most PC Games (with the notable exception of Mass Effect 2) have free DLC for people who paid for the game. (WoW (yeah, the monthly fees pay for it, but the patches that bring DLC don't cost), C&C3/RA3/C&C4, ME1, etc.)
Most PC Games (with the notable exception of Mass Effect 2) have free DLC for people who paid for the game.
This word, I do not think it means what you think it means. All I've seen of DLC is liberal grabs for more cash from any company that label anything as such. In fact, I can't think of the last time a company called something DLC and didn't attach a price to it, I know there are such instances but honestly I can't think of any recent ones, or perhaps its just the types of games I'm into that fiend on the idea of extra revenue generation through bleeding out content through that model. Especially if the developer is owned by a parent company who's name starts with the letter A...
The old good Blizzard is dead, and you'd better accept it.
Activision merge could have something to do, but isn't responsible for everything. Blizzard started to die during the development of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, and got worse when started to abuse. The best example:
Placing limitations on BlizzStores: for example, the virtual pets. It's 10€ in EU, and 10$ in US. Everyone bought it at US to save money. Blizzard closed EU access to avoid that. That's, imo, one of their dirtiest moves to date, a greedy bastard move to milk the users. And it's not just the pet, it's all the products. I live in Spain, and people who wanted to buy stuff always bought it at US, because, even with the mailing price, it was cheaper than to buy it at EU. Not only they milk us shamelessly, they force us to buy in the region they milk us better, and no, there's no logic reason to limit the store to regions. It's just GREED.
Same for StarCraft II. You play where you buy. Are you kidding me? you should be able to choose where to play, no matter where you buy the goddamn game. All the people I know that preordered it from US had to cancel it, and those who didn't are shitting on Blizzard and playing at US servers.
And then we have the deals with Facebook. No, it isn't just the integration. Our "beloved" Blizzard bought rights over "personal data seller engines", and what's that thing for? to sell personal data, used currently by Facebook to customize the adds sent to you and stuff like that. Don't believe me? they released a press letter, check their webpage.
Want more? if any of you follow the esports scene just a bit, you'll know how Blizzard simply raped 10 years of StarCraft: Brood War esports in Korea. From a constructive and nice environment, they built a corporative scheme whose only purpose is to milk money. Kespa were a bunch of suckers that controlled everything, had stupid rules and whatnot, but they weren't as lame as Blizzard is being right now.
Then we have the trilogy thing. If you analyze it, it's a great idea. It's pretty good. Only that the concept didn't end being that good and polished, and, instead of a trilogy, feels like a lone book cut off in 3 parts.

Oh, yeah, we have this awesome idea, we will implement it and yeah... fuck you, programming a chat is a single day work, you just don't want to release it to the public, or you are simply too busy making it a spy network to control what we say.
And of course, the part all of us love more: our maps are hosted by Blizzard, and we don't own them at all. They can even get censored because they want. Not to mention the AWFUL custom game list system. I don't think I need to elaborate on any of that in this particular community.
I could continue on and on... Our Blizzard from Warcraft III is dead, and you all should deal with it asap.
