Many Wc3 maps are better then the custom maps in SC2 and the best footmen map (on EU) is Marine Arena (i don´t realy like this map)
I think the realy good projects (project Vector and such stuff) need more time to release :)
Actually SC2 fully supports heroes, they just aren't in anything Blizzard makes. Although they did try to fit the hero stuff around the rest of the game, which is bad. Anyway, popularity system for SC2 is really bad right now, and most good maps are either still in development, are too big to publish or are at the bottom of the popularity system because no-body knows about it. Either way, you can't play good SC2 maps :(.
They are getting better. Though we still aren't seeing many of the really nicely polished ones yet. Those take a lot of effort, or they are buried under the popularity system.
Short answer : Wait a little longer.
Since you haven't gotten sc2 yet, wait till the price drops somewhat before buying it since the custom games now are still very lacking when compared to w3. You might find several good maps but the rest still need alot of work on them.
But not need to fret. I said wait a little longer because there'll be several improvements to the custom games section for the next patch (1.3) which should encourage more maps to come out and become popular easier.
It's not designed to have heroes. It plays differently. If you want heroes, try Zealot Frenzy. Marine Arena playsore like SC2 ladder than WC3-type games.
In regards to your question, they are not impressive. I would wait perhaps till the next expansion. Also, you can't buy Sc2 'secondhand' unless you takeover the previous owners account.
Thanks,
Well I got the offer to buy 25 euro second hand starcraft 2 he got it for free with a magazine subscription and he says he finds it too hard or isn't good at it.
And a new starcaft 2 costs 45 euro here.
The game is almost 1 year old, When would the prices drop? and how much of a drop can you expect? You probably don't know but if u had take an educated guess..

It's very common to see the price of a game drop a few weeks before the release of another very expected game, or an expansion for that game. About SC2, I'm pretty sure it will cost a bit less when the first expansion will be out (I expect it to be 10€ cheaper, or included in a expansion pack of some sort for 60-70€). Maybe the release of Diablo 3 will reduce the cost of SC2 even more, but don't expect to find it below 40€ in a games shop (it's a AAA game after all).

I have been playing Warcraft 3 FT like for 5 years each day because of the awesome custom maps which are still awesomeeeee!
I thought I'd wait a bit after Starcraft 2 release to allow time for some maps to be made.
So I was wondering, how are the maps now? What kind of custom maps can I excpect when compared to warcraft3 FT.
Most importantly are there any decent footmen maps? and which is the best or most active in progress?
Since the game lacks real heroes and thus real spells/skills like warcraft 3 I am a little worried.
Thanks.

Good sc2 maps... Ummm... if the definition of "good" includes "can get a full house on bnet without begging people to join", id say theres nothing.
Try and play on one of the Map Nights though, good maps actually show up there...

@xSteamGearx: Go
Marine Arena is awesome...
Ive checked marine wars on youtube and it looks pretty good!
Though seconds based income and no heroes is really bad :(
I can get starcraft 2 second handed for 25 euro.. So I either get that, or just wait for it to drop in price.
Are there any maps with heroes out there? and with rpg system like level 20 heroe with 5 custom skills etc.

I suppose you meant to say "I prefer heroes."

Try Zerg Hunter RPG if you're interested in that genre. It's available in US, SEA, and EU.
