hi guys,
last night i worked a lot on my mod. did some new upgrades and stuff. i wanted to test those changes on one of my maps for the mod. these 2 maps got my mod as dependency, of course. now for some reason all units and doodads are gone. every time i open my maps there pops up the message: could not load mod attributes or something like that. i thought: hey, i gotta do it all again. so did i. now after restoring most of the stuff on the damn map, i closed and opened the editor again and all the stuff is gone again!!!!!! seriously, i need help. i spent months of work on this mod.
i guess i messed it up myself. i think i did something with the dependencies. i changed their positions in the dependencies window. the error message just told me to get game variants and attributes for the mod, i found out. fixed that. new maps are no problem. just my existing ones. started to create a new one with my mod as dependency -> no problem. i guess all actors just disappeared, as i changed the dependency-thing. but why don't they appear again, when i restore the old dependency order!? this damn editor is a really unfinished buggy piece of programming :/
i guess i have to build new maps or what do you think?
no, i am not getting abandoned. but now my new map has the same problem. to be more precise:
The maps are not pre-patch. i also tested them successfully online with some friends. i have published quite some versions. it is called dawn of bullets, if you want to take a look at it.
Now, the problem is: every time i open those maps everything except regions and terrain (water, terrain profile) is gone. -> no more doodads and units. which is strange because i can place all my units from my mod there again. i did so yesterday after beginning to make a new map, setting dependencies again... saved it -> worked. i could close the editor, reopen the map, and everything still worked. now i came home from work, opened it: all gone again. and the error message you insist on, has nothing to do with my problem. it was something about attributes and variants of the mod, which i already fixed yesterday. So there is no error message linked to the problem :(
i also reinstalled the whole game yesterday...
screwed forever... haha, i screwed the whole siegemode function by not knowing what i did. Working piece by piece is not my problem anymore ;)
Every change is published and tested online regularly. Another question:
i have one animation missing because i forgot to duplicate an actor. after that i changed some weapons for the unit. the unit is based on hammer securities. all works fine so far. just the attack animation is missing. how do i get it back there? i know i have to modify an event. but i don't know which one. or am i aiming at the totally wrong direction? thx so far :)
now, as i loaded some maps without the dependency to my mod, there always in the loading dialogue it said "loading actors" when switching to terrain module first. that isn't the case with the broken ones... maybe that helps.
i am sorry. i try to be more precise.
- My mod works fine online. yesterday i mad a new map (made a safety-copy), then linked it to my mod, uploaded it -> worked. i can open and work on my mod without problems. just the maps linked to the mod don't show any doodads or units (just terrain) if i reopen the editor and load those maps. i can work around this by applying all changes in one session and publish it immediately. So i have to load the safety copy of the maps (without dependency), put the mod dependency in, redo all scripting and unit placing again every time i want to change something in my mod. this works if i don't close the editor. after closing and reloading everything is gone. so i only have "one shot" as soon as i set the dependency... so it is no real solution.
- not only actors i have changed /created disappear. normal doodads like trees and everything from liberty content disappears as well.
- I haven't installed anything the last few days or even weeks.
- It also has nothing to do with prepatch or new maps. they all work fine if not linked to my mod. older and newer ones.
I don't have a solution for you. I just thought I'd say that I have experienced the same thing, and have stayed away from making mods because of it. If I understand you right, what you'd like an answer for is:
If you make a mod. Then make a map that uses this mod.
How can you modify the mod so it's changes are in turn applied to the map, without ruining it?
yeah, that would be powerful knowledge :) since there is no auto-update function of the maps online, i see no solution. it would be nice to just klick on a button in the published maps management window to update the dependency. because the content is working very well. just the damn "reloading the map in the editor" thing screws up everything. is there a workaround?
where can i do that. is there a special forum or something like that? i am quite new to the scene. so i got no idea where to write this to. but i'd love to support the further improvement of the editor. thank you by the way for trying to not keep me hanging there :)
yeah i'm from germany. so my realm is eu, too i guess ;) ok, will do that tomorrow. and by the way: my maps and ideas to the mod are making progress :) i will not give up. will post my mod as soon as i am satisfied with it. shouldn't take long anymore.

Didn't fix it... anyone got an idea?
Having the exact error message would probably help. Also, what happens if you create a new map?

@morfois1986: Go
I created a map last night and after the game patched this morning, everything I had done was reset and stripped out.
now, as i loaded some maps without the dependency to my mod, there always in the loading dialogue it said "loading actors" when switching to terrain module first. that isn't the case with the broken ones... maybe that helps.

Oh yes, I need the answer, too^^
