Nono, I got this. And I disagree. In my opinion the project should have started 2 weeks ago.
But great that we have this debate(ssss) about BP behind us.
Why couldn't you have said that from the start? Anyways I don't think it's being rushed I just don't think people are doing what they are supposed to. I think we need OneTwo and other people to put a vid up on youtube or facebook or something. The advertisement should have been done by now.
I wrote a rather long post, but decided to delete it and just say a couple of things.
First map needs to already be popular. If not, the only chance the map has is if 25+ people advertise on BNET (in game, not the website) how people should try the map. But then it will suffer the same fate as every other map trying to get popular: People will wait for 5 seconds in the lobby, get bored, and go play something else.
Second map also needs to be popular, at least somewhat.
Everyone, and I mean everyone, needs to mention this map. Mention how the best mapmakers pooled together their resources to make a map that changes every week. Once again, in game. Posting this on forums will do nothing.
Lastly, stop being selfish. Map of the week. 4 maps a month. That means only 4 people a month benefit from this, from all of our work? I don't think so. That is not what you should be thinking. Of course it will help their maps, but no, that should not be what you are thinking. You should be thinking "This map will draw new mappers to our community, boot the motivation of all the discouraged mappers, and get the SC2Mapster community more well known."
I am sorry if that one is harsh, but the "rofl" comment pissed me off. What you are saying is not wrong, just, well, not what you should be focusing on. Think of getting less popular maps out there as a bonus.
That is what I have been trying to say all along, what are you talking about?
And yes, I agree, the advertisements should have started weeks ago. Rodrigo has been on and off lately, and he is the one who is in charge of this thread. The only thing I did to intervene at all was the change the poll to get rid of the "Rodrigo is Flaming/Troll" option. That is all. The rest I am commenting on as a community member, so don't blame me for that.
Rodrigo, if you want to get something figured out you can PM me if you want. I would be glad to help set up some kind of advertising thing on the front page, but it has to be something big. Something that we can put everywhere. We can't run into the same problem that 99% if game lobbies run into. Someone joins, they leave. 10 seconds later someone joins, they leave. If all those people were to just stay, a game could get going.
The same will happen with the popularity if we are not careful. A game gets going, then stops. A couple hours later more ads are made, and then another. If everything is made at the same time, at a GOOD time (as of good time of day), we can get a lot of games going at the same time. We can get a couple of people to boost the game. We can do a ton of stuff, but it needs to be organized.
I frankly don't have a lot of time ATM. My schedule is proving to be a lot more than I expected.
Just stop attacking me, please. Jeez, I never meant to offend anyone. xSun, look back at your old posts, and see if I am really the one being "mean" here.
i'm sorry you're taking all of the heat for this taco... i stalled the thing up with bp earlier too, and i keep throwing opinions left and right without much care. honestly, if i was a mod i would do all i could, but i really can't. and have it noted that you're not the only mod here...
since rodrigo is so busy as of late, we need to organize... since sixen's pretty much won the polls, let's give it another day and switch to teh EU poll with that new guy (i forgot his name, check back to the last page and you'll see his submission). as for the advertising, the community can help with that...
heres my suggestion, (1) everyone give me YOUR suggestions, (2) we simply copy past our own messages about the project and spread em on b net as we play, possibly with a link to this thread, (3) get a mod to post something on the front page about it, (4) get anyone and everyone to talk about it in the actual sc2 custom map forum, (5) have an outside poll on the front page, and count the votes separately (perhaps as 1/2 a vote since they will not be from the "elite" who actually have proven their care for the project by visiting this thread), and (6), talk repeatedly to sixen, since he's a guru at this stuff :D

You do know being a mod has nothing to do with anything? Rod was taken care of this all by himself... hes not a mod.. if you want to do something, thats not a reason not to.
edit: you can easily start contacting people like onetwo to get a recording/ad going ..ect
mods can edit this page, and the polls... and they can post on the front page... that's all i meant
as for what i have been doing, i did submit myself for an NA publisher, i pm'd sixen a few times to make sure he was added to the publisher list (he wasn't originally... I TOLD RODRIGO to set it up)
i've been constantly on this thread clearing up issues, i've prayed for the project, i submitted both of my maps, i've upgraded the crap out of my zombies map and said nothing on this thread until now, and i've gotten emotionally involved whenever someone insults me (THIS POST AS PROOF)... i'm trying, but school is rough and this isn't easy either
mods can edit this page, and the polls... and they can post on the front page... that's all i meant
but its also not our place to take over someone else project.. even if he did say mods could edit it..thats not our place. [we talked about this backstage]
and trust me...we will be newsing this once we get it going. We actully had a long thread talking about this exact project.
My point is though..dont use "if I was a mod ...." as an excuses, if you have motivation and an idea, go for it, or PM people/mod and see what you can get done.
we are here to help afterall.
re-edit: A lot of us think if this is done right, it could really do some amazing good for the mapping community
i edited my comment above, please look over it... i'm not lazy i REALLY care about this project, and i would cry my ass off if it didn't work
lol no no I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I dont think your being lazy in any shape or form, trust me. I just see you say a lot that "if you were a mod then this or that" Im just trying to let you know, that dosnt matter, you should still be able to do anything you can think to help the project... and if there is something that you cant, you can PM one of us. [however like I said.. editing his polls is not something I would do..as I dont want to take over his project] but I think you get what I meant =)

mods can edit this page, and the polls... and they can post on the front page... that's all i meant
That is what I was trying to say about me editing the poll. The only reason I edited it was because of the, well, you know why. I've said it like 50 thousand times. It is not my or any other mod's place to take over this project. As Molsterr said, we did discuss this extensively backstage.
Oh and as for the poll change, that is called "moderating". That is what "moderators" do :) They fix things that shouldn't be there, not interfere for personal gain. I PROMISE you, that will never happen. Well, at least not with me. Even if it doesn't seem it at first, everything I do as a moderator is to try and benefit the community in some way.
But yeah, what Molsterr said. Pretty much all the mods are ready to step up and support this 100% once it gets rolling, but it isn't our job to actually start the rolling.
EDIT: BTW I see your most recent post. We do not think you are being lazy. In fact, if I understand correctly, it is just the opposite. We are asking for you to not think of us as lazy. We will do what is appropriate to help this project and push it in the right direction, but we will not abuse any of our powers.
Signatures. Have something that can be copy and pasted into anyone's signature that a member can use to promote the project. Perhaps the image that is displayed on the OP, with a link to this thread?
I have a website, TacoManStan.com. It is currently unused while I am waiting for my project to be released. We could post information there and code free of Curse's restrictions. It could be the "Map of the Week Website", so to speak. I only say my website because it is already there and easily accessible. A project page on SC2Mapster would I think be less user friendly for outside sources. (Tacomanstan.com is easier to remember than SC2Mapster.com/MOTW/)
OneTwo could make a video for it, or we could make a video for OneTwo. I would assume he wold be willing to cooperate if asked nicely.
We could *try* to message Husky or some other caster. They might be interesting in helping, although I doubt it. It is worth a shot.
Obviously an announcement of some kind, lasting for a couple of days. This would NOT advertise the project, but instead advertising to advertise the project! In other words, "Copy this into your signature!" "Make sure to mention Map of the Week while playing SC2!" and what not. The idea is to get the announcements away from SC2Mapster.
Sixen could make a thread on Battle.net. His shiny "Top Contributor" status would attract some attention I'm sure. Who knows, maybe if we make it look professional enough and Blizzard likes the idea they will sticky the thread. Highly unlikely, but you never know.
We could advertise on TeamLiquid. I'm not familiar with the layout of their site and how it works, so this one would be entirely up to you guys to figure out. Is there anyone from SC2Mapster who has a lot of recognition there, and could get a thread stickied, or something posted on the news?
Well those are the ideas I can think of off the top of my head.
nice... how about we knock those off one at a time... signatures k? i'm not sure about your website, but if you're willing that might skyrocket (or bottle rocket) the project a little/lot. sounds good people?

EDIT: got it... how about this:
MAP OF THE WEEK: SC2 COMMUNITY PROJECT
Help your fellow mappers be heard, place your votes, and fight the good fight. Map of the week takes a voted map from the community that lacks popularity, renames it "Map of the Week", and has it inherit the popularity of all "Maps of the Weeks" before it. If you want to help or advise, join our thread and read over the matters at hand. Maybe your map will be chosen? Maybe your friend's? In any case, we appreciate your visit. May the best map win!
That is fine. I am talking about a general, easy to remember domain that people can all of a sudden think of and be like "oh yeah", go check it out, read some stuff, and then be sent here for more information. Eventually it would have to link back here. I'm talking about in the loading screen, linking to SC2Mapster is too general. Most people would get here and be like "uh, this is NOT just Map of the Week" and then leave.
Know what I mean?
Anyways ya, w/e. Not super important right now, just laying a foundation.
If we did do that, I would think its best we use it for "easy to remember" and just redirect them here automatically. Having them be on another site for any amount of time is killing the point a bit.
Well I can talk to xil_minister about hosting mapoftheweek.org, I'm sure he would be more than happy to support this.
IMPORTANT
I have gotten DarkRevenant's permission to submit Mafia into the pool. When it comes time to get the map up and running, he is willing to publish a "dummy" map under the name Mafia while we publish the actual Mafia game under Map of the Week. The dummy map (under the name Mafia) will lead people to the Map of the Week map. This way we can use Mafia's current popularity to link to Map of the Week, and get it to page 1! With any luck and a lot of advertising and preparation, this could rise above where Mafia is now on the front page!
One thing is that Battle Planet's DID win the poll. I vote we use Mafia for week 1, and then Battle Planets for week 2 or 3. Well? What do you guys think?
Unique map = check
Fun map = check
SC2Mapster original map = check
Popular map = check
Once again this is up to you guys, I'm just listing the facts. I just want to say that I STRONGLY believe that this should be the first week's map. (If I haven't made that clear :) )

now what do you think about the advertising ideas? worth pursuing, or should we rethink it from the methods i posted

ps: mapoftheweek.org is free.
1) I wouldnt just copy that.. bulky sigs like that turn people away more than draws people
2) thats a forum option, in your settings , by default, you only see sigs the first time a user posts on that page.
