And I'm not just telling you to go do it. I'd be happy to help on that side of things, I've hobbied/worked in web design for over 10 years now.
Let's first see the map of the week working before taking any step further. Although I believe this project will go to first page and stay there for many weeks, I'm already prepared for the worst.
I know, that's why I'm asking people to make a project page. You can see the project page of each map just by clicking on its name at the list in the first page. Maps with no video or images will by default get less votes.
And about more advertisement, the first page of the popularity system is the best ads. Once the Map of the Week gets to the first page, you will see how many people might come here.
edit: 1000 posts! yay! (I can't open any more posts now, lol)
I just loaded SC2 and played each map before voting. Ya playing solo is not the best way to judge, but I got the basic ideas behind each map.

Cool. Let us know then your feedback :)
Voting is just part of our decision. I think our discussion here is equally important and will shape people's voting.
I welcome this dedication, but the fact of the matter is, the vote would be more accurate and possibly larger, if each map was detailed without even having to load it.
No offense to the maker of Battle Planets, but I think it would be a bad choice to start the Map of the Week off with. We really need something with a big bang. The first two maps are the most important. The first map is what will get people interested. If it is good, they will expect maps of similar quality. The second map is equally as important as the first. Players who played the first map will be reassured that all of the maps will be of high quality. Players who have not played the map before will be influenced by the same forces the first map provided.
As we upload more maps, this becomes less important. If even the third map is not of as high of quality as the first two, players will still have acceptable reactions. Players who have played before will toss the map aside as one mediocre map, and will eagerly await the release of the next. New players will hear veterans talking about who awesome the first two were, and will think the same thing, that this is just one mediocre map and that they should check back later.
However, this means that we always need one really good map standing by. If a map doesn't do so well, we need a proven-to-be-fun map ready at hand to replace it, to bring back player's confidence in the quality of our maps.
The point? The release date should be change from "Very Soon!" to "We will see." Smashcraft + Mafia, TOFU + Mafia, (preferably SOTIS + Mafia, but I don't think the creator is still active on this site, is he?)
I think the first map should be a really fun, but somewhat low on the popularity list map, AKA Smashcraft or TOFU (TOFU obviously because it hasn't been released) Mafia should be second. If we start out with Smashcraft, we will be able to use Mafia as the second map. Most people will love Smashcraft. Those that don't like the play style but respect the game will come back to see what is next. The transition from Smashcraft to Mafia I think would demonstrate the high quality of the maps, and the diversity as well. This will keep players playing the map.
These are just examples BTW. If Mephs, DogmaiSEA and DarkRevelant are not willing to participate than I think we should find similar maps. TOFU should definitely be near the beginning, probably as that "We need a boost" map I mentioned.
So yeah, that is my opinion on the issue.
Oh and for the record, when my map is completed in 1-4 months, count me in :D
Sad thing is really polished and good maps have really nothing to gain from this. Even if it would make gaining popularity easier I would be embarassed to put my map on same group with rodrigos maps...Even if my maps arent popular.
I just felt like postin again...the idea is great, but I just dont see it working out. Sorry to spoil the fun.
TacoManStan, Smashcraft as NWW is too short and intense to be popular. I don't think that map can survive on the top. Both Smashcraft and NWW were made based on the 5-min rule on the old popularity system. On this current system, they have no chances.
I made a new pool on the first page. Please, vote.
I'm working on getting Baneling Scramble a professional loading screen with the MotW logo from our good buddy jaxter184 :D
Also if there's any pro trigger editor out there that can help me with what seems like a simple problem I'm having, shoot me a PM and I'll have another map ready for MotW!

I'm slightly confused as how I got on the list to support this map. I said the maps that you put up for a week will never actually rise because they will just play map of the week and not have to wait.
i know i'm your anti-troll rodrigo, but i seriously think the whole team should push for this idea... it's a SERIOUS improvement from the fun or not system, simply because it has an actual vote for the map that isn't based on lazy ratings of people who might not care at all about the map system
(no offense, i'm sure some people play fun or not to help the system).
also i don't know why people hate your maps. all of em are well made and most of em are pretty damn fun
finally, i know you've got some resentments against sixen, but he's probably just busy. It took him about a week to post my map vids on the home page, so it'll take him longer to publish 50 maps (cough, exaggeration, cough). I'm sure he'll help out if ya pester him about it though.
WHY AM I SUCH A DAMN OPTIMIST????!!!??? ...<-- ignore that last statement
as for the poll on the "i think rodrigo is a hater... i hate this stupid idea..." vote, it's pretty tempting to click on that vote just to be an ass. If i didn't respect this idea, i'd probably just click everything "yes" and vote, if not simply clicking the vote that involves pissing people off
Rodrigo do not go off the votes of SC2Mapster on this one. Please. From a consumer's standpoint, people here have absolutely no idea what they are talking about.
Use TOFU, SOTIS, Mafia, any of OneTwo's maps, something that is popular, but half this site doesn't call "shit". (Nexus Wars, I would like you to know, is NOT shit).

Great idea! I hope everyone unsatisfied with the popularity system will support it! I have maps but these on the list are way cooler than mine.
Best wishes.
how about my map The Final Revolution? It may be a little hard to catch onto (thats why its rated +13) but once u catch on... its a hell of alot of fun xD Its Main Page Is This: http://www.sc2mapster.com/forums/player-zone/map-feedback/23891-the-final-revolution-unique-map/#p11 (still need someone to help make a youtube video for it :P) @SoulFilcher: Go

I only know about battle planets, but this thread has more content than the page that is linked in the op: http://www.sc2mapster.com/forums/player-zone/map-feedback/20038-battle-planets-beta-release/
Maybe all mapmakers that have similar threads or pages should post them here, so voting gets easier.
Hows everything looking rod?
Hey. I'm kinda busy with school right now. But, I'll update the pool with other maps soon. I'm just waiting a little more to get more votes.
Why didn't the admins join the list yet? Where the hell is Sixen? He said he could be a publisher, but he never showed up here yet...

Great to be back and part of the community again!
Tbh I don't think waiting this long is a good idea, the movement will lose momentum.
Just put Battle Planets up there and gogogo. :)
Oh and could the people who voted for BP plz pm me? Still looking for more players.

What's the reason for such much hate towards my maps? =/

Should probably create a poll on battle.net forums once the map is popular so that way we can see what the consumer wants.
what did you vote for ???
did you vote for my map? :D :D :D
jk i know you didn't, but i'd like to hear your opinion since you actually PLAYED my maps (i really only care about the zombies one)
Yeah, I think we should decide carefully the first map.
What was the opinion from the people who played them on the Map Night?
