I have seen too many maps with wrong categories in the curse.com map list, I think it's caused by some of them that are missing.
Here are some ideas:
- First Person (soo many to list)
- Sidescroller (contra, my map, etc)
- Board game (chess, monopoly, etc)
- Shooter (3D and 2D shooter games)
- Arcade (tetris, pacman, my map too)
- Sport (soccer & C.)
Other categories should be removed by the map list and moved in other macro-categories like tools, models, textures, sounds, etc
Mhmm... We're going to redo the whole category system, so any out of place will be fixed when we change things around. If you know of any maps atm, feel free to report them here for me.
If the right categories don't exist it's hard to assign maps to the correct ones.
There is another case that I think many guys didn't understand what's for.
I'm talking about the "Proof of Concept" category that should be used to show demos of new concepts but anyone is using it for any kind of map :D
Another ambiguous category is "Scenario", I really don't get what's its meaning!
However when are you going to fix the categories system?
In the near future, i'd like to get it done after we roll out the new skin. Then probably take another look at the current forums again and see if we can break ti up more if needed, :).

When you do, please consider adding a newbie/basic questions forum to divert some of the noise from the mapmaking forum.

Mmmm, but what would be a feasible way to divide up the Map Dev forum?

I dunno but it would be nice if you could somehow split up really basic questions with more advanced discussion. The basic problem is that simple questions can be answered by a lot of people so they get lots of discussion while tough questions maybe only a handful of people know how to answer and they get buried before they see a response. Which means that as you get more and more experience with the editor, the usefulness of the forums decreases. As traffic is surely going to spike like crazy when the game is released this phenomenon is only going to be reinforced.
Maybe have a beginner's FAQ and tutorial list somewhere and lock any topics asking things that can easily be answered from those resources?

I vote for a board game category!!
Anyway, I love the dedication and hard work you guys put in this site. Keep it up!
Hm... Board Game would be a good idea. Though there aren't many. Perhaps something encompassing Board Games/Card Games?
I just talked to Picard about that, he said ""Make it so"
Card games ARE board games I suppose xD
Very true.

I understand, thanks Riley. I'll talk to Vjeux, see if we can figure something out, :).
