Blizzard said that Legacy of the Void will be a standalone game, which does not require sc2 and hots. What does it means for arcade scene and players? Will it split all community on two parts? If yes, sc2 will die very soon, all non arcade players will move to Legacy of the Void, but the rest will stay on hots because of arcade maps. What assets will be available on Legacy of the Void? Will it include Sc2 and Hots campaign units, heroes, etc.? Discuss.
i am pretty sure that our maps will be able to be played on LotV. not even the post-sc2-blizzard would be that stupid. maybe (on the long run) we even get a shared arcade between sc2 and HotStorm (since they are using the same engine). but i also believe that we have to buy the game this time in order to benefit from the new additions.
I suspect it's separate from WoL/HotS because it's Storm engine, incompartible with the old SC2 engine.
So, there will be 2 separate and independent arcade lores. It most possibly would require to upload our maps to LotV arcade with LotV editor.
Is it a gay change?
Well, if it will bring Storm players to LotV arcade, it's a good change. Becasue I expect Storm to have much more players than SC2 ever had. So, separation of arcade into 2 parts will be compensated.
But if we think further, we may find out, that there won't be any separation. Becasue this will most probably lead to this situation: old WoL/HotS arcade will have like 5% of old SC2 players. New arcade will have 95% of SC2 players + all the Storm players.
So, old thing will die, new thing will be prosperous as never.

People are probably misunderstanding what they mean.
LotV will not be a standalone game in the sense that it is entirely separate from WoL and HotS with a separate executable and separate installation. It will be a stand alone game in the sense that the features unlocked by the game licence are not dependent on either WoL or HotS. HotS needed WoL to be playable just like Diablo 3 RoS needed Diablo 3 to be playable. This is also the case for the WoW expansions which needed their predecessor to be playable (although Blizzard is generous with giving the old expansions away). LotV content will be unlocked by LotV key and are separate from the WoL and HotS content (which need the appropriate licences to play).
For example, to play the WoL campaign you needed to buy WoL. To play the HotS campaign you needed to own WoL and buy HotS. This meant that if you own HotS you can play both the WoL campaign and the HotS campaign due to this licencing requirement. LotV will be different in that you can still own LotV and play the LotV campaign but both the WoL and HotS campaigns will remain lock. You will also not be able to partake in WoL or HotS melee games. The only way to have the full SC2 experience with all 3 campaigns and all melee modes unlocked is to buy all 3 game licences.
Just like with Diablo III, SC2 and WoW, SC2 LotV will probably be SC2 3.0 and automatically install as a patch shortly before launch of the game replacing SC2 2.0 and adding all the new functionality to the game. SC2 3.0 will also probably migrate SC2 over to the CASC file system used by Heroes of the Storm, World of Warcraft and soon Diablo III.
Be sure to check out the extension mod: Hots Custom Map support on NA and EU, Despite the name it greatly expands the roster of options for the default 3 races and is updated all the way to NCO.
Dark Crusade was a standalone addon to Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War. However, it still was part of the same game. Thats probably exactly how it will be with SC2.
