This is really cool news and i like that they picked a theme which will require people to make new projects.
The downside for me is I've never touched Warcraft in my life. I guess I'll have to start reading up on the history and lore. The Warcraft universe isn't too big, right?

There's a free trial for WoW that will let you take any character up to level 20. You'll get to look around and see the sights at your own pace.

I'm confused, why would you need to know anything about warcraft universe to make a warcrafty map? If anything, not knowing a thing about WC gives you an edge here.
It's like in SC2 every god damn map refers to zerg units as "zerg", creating a situation where any creation not referring to zerg as zerg gets bonus points from me.

If nostaliga factor is what you're aiming for, then yeah, some warcraft knowledge, especially vanilla WoW/wc3 knowledge, will go a long way because a lot of people have played or grown up with those games.
Honestly I think if someone managed to pull off a map that appealed to the warcraft fanbase, then the arcade would just explode since the fanbase is much bigger than that of starcraft.
Yay!

Interesting to see it'll be Warcraft-themed, hooray for more fantasy maps!

I love his accent and he does a great job of explaining WarCraft lore.
Though really, I think you'll be pretty safe without ever having to know a single bit of WarCraft lore, to be honest!
