Im kinda new to the whole Starcraft II scene and I got a little question about how to play downloaded maps.. I just bought the game and when I wanted to play at LAN, I figured out there is no such thing in this game. I wanted to start an online game with a friend to test maps, but I can't seem to find how to.. I put the maps in "documents/StarCraftII/<myusername>/maps", but where can I load these maps? In the mapoptions of the Create Multiplayer Game, I just see "popular maps" or "Blizzard maps" :(
Im the rookiest of the rookies, so please dont blame me :P I searched the web, but couldn't find anything.. This was a logical next step for me (:
Thanks! Yeah, I saw that, and kinda figuring that out! But do you know how and where I can load downloaded maps? I want to play TowerDefense maps and downloaded some, but in the Arcade menu I see the things like "SquadronTD" and many others, but where to load a downloaded map :o
You cannot host games of games you loaded. You can only make the server give/open you a lobby of a specific map you chose which needs to be on the server. This is how you play games in StarCraft II. (And then you load the map, if you don't have it.)
So, this is different from the self-hosting of local maps in the predecessor games like WC3 and SCBW.
To play ganes locally, you need to open them in the editor or drop them in Sc2Switcher.exe in the support folder within sc2's installation folder.
So, go to battle.net, open up arcade, get open lobbies and join an existing lobby or browse for games and play those.

Speaking of playing SC2 maps... will Blizzard ever allow us to play our own unpublished maps by browsing the Maps\ folder from some Single Player option like war3, bw and any other game allows you to do... I am still wondering what kind of crazy brain decided to remove that... So that one can play offline even when the connection goes off rather than not being able to start a map even from the edtior..
Are you sure you understand me? Firstly, there are two ways to start a map. Through SC2Switcher.exe directly and Test Map from the editor - I am talking about ways to start your own map that is not published and is not to be published...
Yes but when there is no connection, you have lost the connection, neither through Switcher nor through the editor can you run the map because it gives you a mesage like 'Belongs to different version'.. or something like that ever since it became streaming...
And it really wouldn't kill Blizzard to make like every other game and previous war3 and bw - to browse your own maps from some Single Player in-game...
If you don't find the map in the Arcard System already you have downloaded, just upload it as private with the editor. And host your published map and invite your friend.

Starcraft II features an Arcade section, where you can browse and play loads of maps with or without others.
