Why do we use whatever the hell it is that is powering these forums? This is the largest SC2 modding community...and growing. Compared to mainstream forum software (vB, IPB), these forums don't hold a candle. There are just way too many problems.
Can we please upgrade to vB or IPB? I'm willing to bet that there are enough users here who would contribute $1 towards the $150 license to cover it.
These are custom forums made by the curse team....ive been told, they are still being improved. which... is much so needed =P. vjeux is actually working on this as we speak. But he has a lot to do thats for sure, as I agree, these forums are missing a lot of needed features.

That's what I figured. I don't understand why though. Do they really think they can do better than vB or IPB? If it's because they want to do custom features, then vB in particular is very modifiable. They can't possibly be so cheap as to not be willing to fork out $150. Can someone shed light on this?
If they could add a way to view a person's posts/topics and even your OWN topics/posts, as well as take the /#5<post number> away from the end of the url so that it stops defaulting to the last post in the thread, then I would have no problem with the forums. but right now they drive me crazy lol
Agreed this forum's codebase is pretty terrible compared to standard issue forum software, so far I see no advantages and huge disadvantages to their insistence on reinventing the wheel. I can't even search with quotes for multi-word string matches for christ sakes. (and man does that bug me to no end!)

ive already told you what there plans are.
The main curse developers are currently working on other massive projects, for example mmo-champs news website design. vjeux is working on our site until we get developers here. Good things will come in time =D

tl;dr the people behind curse have chronic not-developed-here syndrome. i bet they write custom string classes for every project too.
but yeah, sorry vjeux/other mods but this really is the worst forum software possible. thread tracking is not an optional feature on a tech support forum and having 7 different kinds of markup to choose from is more of an anti-feature than anything.
That doesn't answer it Molsterr. I really don't care what the plans are. I want to know why we are going down this idiot route in the first place. Just to be perfectly clear...curse developers are not going to produce anything better than vB or IPB.
I completely agree, these forums are lackluster. However, since everything was made from scratch, we are able to integrate the different portions of the site with ease. Projects, Teams, Users, the Wiki, the forums, the homepage, a lot of that would not be possible through IPBvB, etc.
With that in mind, any suggestions will definitely be added to our to do list if they're ... good ones, :P.
An email notification about new posts in topics you have posted in would be great. Shouldn´t be too hard with the mail() function in php
Agreed, especially an option to subscribe the thread and unsubscribe to it. I've done it before when working on a class project to make some forums. It emails you if it's subscribed. Not hard to do.

I would kill for the "Show unread topics since last visit" feature, makes following multiple boards SO much easier :)
I'd love to be able to get more information on a person without having to find a post that they made.

One reason could be bot spam prevention. Custom forums are incredibly effective at that.

@WhiskeeGX: Go
Check out the top posts on curse.com's main page...some how I don't think the security through obscurity argument stands up here...
Zomg! I really want a safe to store my WoW gold! O wait, WoW already has a bank -.-
Why has there been no response from the people in charge of this site?
