Because I felt like locking it?. (Been discussed before in several threads)
Hey everyone, I decided to come out of lurking and post some suggestions I think SC2Mapster could use:
SC2Mapster has not changed very much from the SC2 Beta to release (and even to now) aside from a change in color scheme. At least from what I can see anyways.
Theres a search box for finding stuff, it shouldn't take THAT long to find tutorials.
WARNING- shameless advertising coming up!! In fact, you can find some beginner tutorials in about 1 second by clicking "getting started" in my signature.
Anyway your main point was that newcomers can't find a tutorial on the front page. Again, not sure if you saw it but there is a search box for finding stuff.
It's a double edged sword how hard it is to get into this editor. Yes, it's frustrating finding decent tutorials is hard and sites like this can be a bit of a wasteland in some ways.
If you DO figure things out, put out a good mod, it will garner far more attention though, as there simply aren't that many out.
I don't see too much changing on this site though, seems a lot of the enthusiasm here has died down and things aren't exactly in a state of change. But this itself is subject to change, the editor is being updated all the time and a few patches down the road who knows, maybe things will look different in these parts.
Its a very well known fact that there's a lot that can be done on this site, but i believe that only curse has access to actually changing the site itself which is the reason a lot of the things everyone wants to have were never implemented.
Queensgambit made a nice proposal on restructuring the front page, but i cant remember what the topic was called >.> I liked that idea
and for tutorials... Just search for the keywords of what you're trying to accomplish. It's as good as impossible to make a basic tutorial, as the editor is everything except basic. Whatever one tries to do, there is a lot of different things that have to be learnt for it, and the only way to get good at the editor is to go through enough tutorials that you know enough so that you can start figuring stuff out yourself. I learnt majority of things myself after i read through Bifuu's hero tutorial and another tutorial on how to make a shockwave spell (cant remember what that one was called), and i started figuring things out on my own.
This ain't wc3 anymore where everything about a unit could be edited in one tab - now you have to go through a lot of stuff. There simply is no fast/easy way.
I use IE
the "API Docs" actually leads to the wiki..... wiki's are generally a good place to start theres even a list of TUTORIALS at the top of it
IMO the "API Docs" link should really just say "WIKI"
