I'm trying to use the noise style brush to paint terrain textures selectively, but when I try, it completely fills the selective spots with the new textures instead of fading in gradually like it has in the past. Is there a setting or something that was reset recently? I've messed around with increments, speed, brush size, resolution, everything, but to no avail. Hope someone can help me out.
I assume you're using some of the Legacy of the Void maps?
The reason height maps mess with this functionality is because the void maps use it to paint between cracks and shit with other textures. Makes it really easy. Although it will make blending textures at the seams much more difficult.
I use it on my terrains though for stuff like this
I used to be able to do that without removing the gradual fade-in though. I've used that feature in the past for some jungle terrain and I never had any problems.
Would love to get an answer for how to make it have that blend modulate kind of blend feature instead of gradual fadein. It seems for me like only some textures do it while others are bugged out.
Some textures don't support it, as far as I can tell. Specifically, only Void and Nova textures will have the functionalities, it seems, and height maps need to be enabled in data.
Unless you're asking how to enable both gradual blending and height maps. That's what I'm asking, and I haven't gotten anywhere closer to finding out how to make them both work.

uncheck height maps in the data editor for the tileset you're using
I never would have found that. Thanks. Why the hell does that mess with this functionality?
