Grrrrrrrreetings ladies and gentlemen! For this week's exercise, we're going to be blue! Da ba dee. The theme will be Monlyth Dunes. What this means is that I want you guys to make any kind of terrain that predominantly uses the Monlyth Dunes and Monlyth Sand textures. Why? Because there is Blizzard melee map called Monlyth Ridge that's set in the Monlyth tileset and predominantly uses these textures - and I literally haven't seen this style anywhere else yet so far. You are free to use another tileset with the imported Monlyth Dunes & Sand textures, but I wouldn't recommend it if you're unsure if you can make it work.
I have way more crazy WTE's coming up for people, but I figured I'd try and get one or two 'normal' ones in again first. Good luck everyone!
Okay here's mine; Hopefully i didn't went to much 'Epic temple' and managed to fit in some 'Boring desert' in there aswell, but there is nothing to terrain in a desert!
No, that's more or less what I meant Sheo. I just want a scene taking place on a 'monlyth dunes' planet. You've got a temple in the middle of this desert - that works.
That said; I really like your road. Pretty original texture play you have there. I'd probably still shatter some sand over the edges though, even though I see what you tried to do, the path still feels like it looks way too 'clear'.
I'm not exacly sure what you are looking for us to do. Making "any kind of terrain" is a bit too large in my mind, haha. As far as I understand, you just want 'something' with that tileset. So whatever you do, until it is with Monolyth. Well, ok. I'll do my best and probably a fully working melee map for few players like your example.
Original yes... *Coughitotallystoleitfromsomerandomblizzardmademeleemapcough*
I think you're mistaking what I'm talking about - I mean the fact that you've used the brick texture as a road, cutting it out exactly where the stones end to create a clear path. That's definitely not there in Monlyth ridge.

I'm quite surprised to see this as a novelty. I try to merge most angular texture stuff by the edges, so it looks more believable. Then I overlay extra stuff, like the sand you mention.
Posting an oldie as soon as I get my perosnal laptop back.
I didn't say i stole it from Monolyth ridge. Can't remember which map but i'm sure i've seen exactly that texture play in a blizzard meleemap (<- single word... ?).
I'm not quite sure you got the perfect blue. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the blue in the blue screen of death is a bit darker, no? It might just be the contrast between the blue of the screen and the white of the text.
The blue screen of death is only dark blue because all of your hopes in life are briefly shattered when you hear it's unbearable "ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!" sound and see that your physical memory is being dumped by the hundreds :(. Then you restart and your hopes are back, unless of course you forgot to save your map.
Well, this is some nice workaround with all those rocks and arches, but I don't really feel something impressive... I feel it like a bit "empty".
I think the trees could have be more distant and try to don't put them in the same direction. You might want to press Shift while placing some doodate to allow you to place it anywhere without folowing the map grid.
I like the idea of the cave purple illumination with the diamond or whatever they are called. But, I'm not sure about the ones on the top. Eather you just put them inside with the omni purple, or you put some omni outside too. But I don't think placing these omni light on top would have nice looking. It is much more interesting when it comes from the entrance.
I'm not sure about the place where you put this cave (I don't know what it is if it is not a cave) I think I would have place it more into a mountain with maybe a river passing next to it if you want to keep the waterfalls.
The way you placed the rocks and arches work. It is good for me. I don't know about the Zerg thing though. Maybe it's good, maybe not. Depends who's looking and what you wanted to do with that.
You also have a flat water for an ocean. Maybe have played in the Data about the water you used could have be nice. Like changing the reflection, distortion, waves, etc. You have falls but no water movements. Kinda weird. You only have the (I don't remember the name) beach water waves xD.
Finally, depending how good you are in terraining, you could play a little bit more with the lightning, the fog and the field of view of the cameras.
Also, don't take every I say as something fix. I might be wrong. Some people might think differently than me, but, that's what I think. Gj.
what you actually needed to do was shrink the diamonds up top... having thin cracks or edges of glowing violet at the top is a good idea... it draws the eye without stealing attention, but the huge diamond always forcefully grab your eye for better or for worse
i would add a few more and make em all smaller, taking a semblance of cover underneath the rock... that way they look like they're barely breaking through it, rather than being welded completely onto it from the bottom...
what i mean is: do not place them as you would a tree in plain dirt, place them like vines growing through

When you ask someone to leave their comfort zone, it doesn't usually go so well... Good luck though!

what if i just make a map that turns everything to a blue screen? would that be enough?
...oh wait windows already did that

Go play Antioch Chronicles Remastered!
Also, coming soon, Antioch Episode 3: Thoughts in Chaos!
Dont like mapster's ugly white? Try Mapster's Classic Skin!

Oh yes, I've used the technique before myself - it's just that I've not yet seen it specifically with this texture in this manner.

I was going to do a temple type thing, but it was already done. Hope you like it!
nice... allow me to submit my map candidate :D

Hmm.. it's missing my favorite part:
"Dumping Physical Memory: xx"
Haha :D
lol
it's also missing the screaming, flames, and shards of glass
i also believe there's an occasional black hole... but these windows errors are untested

lol i'd hate to throw this totally off topic, but i think you're right on the shade of blue...
it needs more darkness, more deathyness
i need to look at it and either want to shoot myself in the head or cover my nose and open a window
possibly both... in that order... confusing eh?
