Hello again folks! I'll have more artsy topics for the WTE coming up soon, but for now I figured I'd stay with something simple.
Weekly Terraining Exercise #7
For this weeks theme, I was thinking about "A Place of Worship". This basically translates to any place where something or someone is worshipped. The most obvious example is an ancient Protoss temple, but I'm sure that the more advanced folks among you will be able to come up with a less obvious and completely different idea. Good luck!
Guess I will be the first submission. I call it Sleeping Giant and the locals pray and give sacrifices to what they believe is the volcanos spirit, trying to keep it from erupting. To get to the top there is a spiralling, crooked and dangerous walkway .
Tried to get the cliffs looking the most realistic that I could. Would love some feedback.
Okay first time trying here too..
So this dude just took what he had, and made a place to worship this one marine, in the middle of the desert..
Sadly no one knowes why..
Yes, I´m aware that the surroundings are scarsly doodad.. But hey, were in the middle of the desert..
I was going to make one place for each race to worthship, but bummed out halfway through so just made a neet looking dead overmind where all the zerglings gather to say the greefs! and then a half arsed church, which would be the most obvious choice for terrans to worthship since not having a cool protoss pewpew culture
I didn't figure anyone would do a Zerg place of worship, and I've never done a map on Char or Redstone, so I tried an Overmind worship on Redstone. Really could have done more with this, but I think you get the idea. :)
DAM.. The third one is a good piece of terrain (The cathedral is good, the surroundings are pretty bad). Try making forest or winter terrain around cathedral...
And damn.
sorry for poor screen shots this time around, my video card died and im using a backup one.
My theme is an infested place of worship, with the loss of Kerigan they look to someone else as their new god and sacrifice accordingly.
Protoss temple on Shakuras. I just like my protoss :p
Anyway, first time im participating, made this in about half an hour. "The Temple of Pylo", at the annual festival held in honor of Pylo. (yes, i like pylo)
Also, i forgot to disable helper models in the first 2 screenshots >.<
I love the idea that you thought of, the only critisism i would say, well not really critisism more a suggestion, is lower the hill where the temple lies, and add something to the top of the temple, in most maya'n temples you see alters or sacrificial pits at the top of them, i think that would really make the temple look amazing.
I also think adding some atmosphere, with fog effects or weather effects would be good aswell as some lighting.
Here we go, since I already did an ancient Protoss temple for the "These Dead Streets" exercise, I went with something a bit different this time. I'm guessing this isn't completely according to lore, but as a player of Warhammer 40k, I had a hard time resisting to build a place for the worship of the emperor Arcturus Mengsk himself. So, here we go :)

Just thought I would pop something in here real quick. It's nothing special, but it's also only my 2nd serious attempt at anything.
My theme was somethink like "an old maya tempel"
Bleak and depressing, but a place of worship regardless!
I figured I would start doing these when I can to maybe help me get better at terraining.
