This week will be a bit of a special WTE. While browsing through these boards I noticed a thread by Fulla about him looking for someone to spice up his terrain. I figured that his topic of a "Lava Arena" would be a good theme for the WTE, added 1 and 1, ate a bagel and decided on something new for this week. As mentioned, the theme is going to be a lava/fire arena, but you're going to build it on top of the terrain that Fulla has already put down. Once all the submissions are in, he is going to pick the terrain he likes best and use that for his map. Obviously, you'll get credit. Two birds, one stone.
Long story short: download the attached map, proceed to make the terrain even more kickass than it already is and basically do the WTE as usual. Then have your terrain used and credit granted. Aside from 'keep the center clear of obstacles', there are no specific rules that you need to keep in mind. Be reasonable though; don't completely reshape what is already in place, so Fulla's basic triggers stay intact.
Good luck, hoping to see some cool arenas, and hoping to see Fulla helped on his way. Lets show him what we're capable of.
Nice to see you was testing in game, although map is very imbalanced right now :)
I don't think anyone can beat that?
Agreed on the current balance situation. Gave it a few tries to see if I could. Ended up 0-7 overall. :D
There are a lot of pretty damned good terrainers around who participate in the WTEs, so don't be surprised if someone cooks up something more impressive than mine before the end of the week.
Well this is gonna be a blow to my confidence with the editor, but how do you remove the terrain object in the middle? I can't seem to do so since the editor got updated I have no idea where anything is!
Edit: I got it for some reason my terrain object editor wasn't opening up at first, my entry is due soon.

Terrain Objects are under the Terrain palette - see attached image.
Once you select the Terrain Object brush you can just click on the floor window and hit delete.
Ok so, I've worked for at less 4 hours... it's really hard to get everything working when you don't want to use the terrain tool.
When we look at all the posts here, every arenas are full. I'm not sure how to say, but, you just don't see under, you don't feel the lava under your feet. So I wanted to go with a kind of platform where you would see under. However, there is a couple things still to fix. First is that I had not the time to work on the terrain around the arena. It's really just a mosaic of doodads for the floor. Second, the units are using a weird path, but even after moving all the doodads, adding pathing and such, they still move no straight. So I'll let this to the map creator.
Well, look at the pictures while seeing rocks in the lava, a much better lightning, make lava move up and down in-game, why not :P etc.

Agreed that the terrain features that show below the floor are a must.
Could do with more red omni lights.

Is the lava theme a must? Or could we build something slightly different, keeping the same color scheme?
@ScorpSCII: Go
I'd say go for it. If it doesn't tie in to what Fulla's looking for, he can opt not to use it. Not sure what you have in mind, but am curious.
Has several effects that aren't really visible in the screenshots (mainly electrical arcs and exploding lava in the background).
Uses lighting regions to give the two sides a bit more diversity.
@Telthalion: your map looks like it came straight out of Diablo! Like the Hellish theme.
I'm completely blown away, that looks amazing.

You sure set a high bar. Still though, I hope a challenger will appear *grins*

Thank you anyways Telthalion.
Well here is what I came up with, could use some possible tweaks but I like it so far.
No one played with footprints and made a doodad arena hovering over the larva and not just coming out of it?

I have some plans for doing something like that tomorrow when I start my entry. Guess it'll be my first WTE to enter, but I plan to do my very best!

Technically mine's hovering over the lava. Though I didn't use doodads - just space platform cliffs and really low lava.
I decided to stick to the lava theme. Here's what I came up with:
I kept the terrain very clean to avoid distraction from the gameplay.
edit: lighting looks way better ingame

Personal note, your map is awsome.

I like the idea, but I don't see why it would grasp the lava feel any better than mine.
@ScorpSCII: Go
Yeah, both of your terrains are good.

Well, let's just say both are good ;) And mine could be much better... haha. So long making a floor of doodads in the air and walkable lol.
