Morning/afternoon/evening to you all folks! I've been busy with some stuff regarding the WTE, and I can promise you I've got some cool stuff coming up regarding the theme, style and global format of the WTE's. It's starting this week, with a whole new type of WTE that caters to the completely new terrainers out there. The idea is courtesy of KineMorto. But lets hear it, I think you guys will like this.
Weekly Terraining Exercise #6
This weeks theme is going to be "Bridging the Gap". What that means is this - I've made a really basic terrain on the Shakuras tileset (attached to the post), and I want you to open up that terrain and turn it into a creation of your own. The only catch is that you can't modify any of the terrain already in place - so no removing the cliffs, river, or path I laid down. As you'll see, the path goes straight through the river, which makes the name of this WTE two-sided; it's up to you to find a way to make a good looking bridge across this river. Aside from that, you can do whatever you want. Use it to play around with textures, try out different doodad combinations - pretty this terrain up in your own style, and see how it differs from that of others. Good luck!
Kinda liked this new kind of assignment, however, I absolutely hate the tileset, just no enough doodads to flesh out the terrain as much as I'd have prefered, but anyway, I did what I could, quite happy with the result, although not as much as previous weeks, may give it another go later during the week if I have time.
Also, how do you add a skybox, seeing as this tileset didn't have one by default?
Aye, I know the tileset is horrible, which is exactly why I picked it - If we see multiple variations of the same thing, we can compare how people managed to fill up their stuff and in what way doodads were used. Shakuras and the other weird-coloured-planets are normally indeed horrible to deal with.
It's probably good practice to stretch your imagination for which doodads you can use on those weirder tilesets :)
Also, in response to Victiln, you can always just make it all in the editor, then you don't need to worry about actually making units able to path across the bridge.
Made up a little scene where someone crashed with a truck of marines, and the military is investigating. Not sure if I followed the rules, please tell me if I didnt ^^
You said we cant Remove any of the terrain thats already their.
But can we Modify it in anway, such as Widen/ shorten the river? increase the size of the cliffs?

lol dam i miss read that.
I've got a good idea for a terrain, but with the contraints of not been able to modify the terrain, or create my own map for this WTE, i might just create a map and just share it, and not enter it into the comp.
Can't say I'm particularly good at this, but I do enjoy it, and the less I need to do with the actual terrain, the better.
The monorail is still technically goin' over a bridge... right?
Not too sure why there's a huge black area on the first pic.
Damnit, just realised other folk have put in monorail's too. An' here was me thinking I was bein' smart. Oh well...

Just checking, but do you mind if one adds textures to the terrain?
nvm, guess I skimmed the OP a bit to quickly :P
Are we still allowed to remove the shoreline waves from the water? It gets pretty annoying having it clip through everything.
What about a deadline for the disposal?
@SASCnlAlpha: Go
You may, if you really want to. I prefer having them myself, but eh :)

The deadline is one week, as usual - that's when the next WTE goes up.
Pretty crappy assignment tbh, terrain topic but cant alter the terrain so had some fun with it and found an easymode way to make custom bridges
- 1 find bridge you want to use (must be unit bridges)
- 2 data editor -> lookup you bridge.
- 3 uncheck uncloackable
- 4 check cloacked
- 5 go under triggers and make a unit height action fx: Unit - lolbridge [32.51, 42.06] height to 2.2 over 0.0 second
- 6 insert random doodads
success!

Great, now to remember how to remove the shorelines… Another thing is the water is too calm for it to have such forceful waves.

Im indifferent about this WTE.

From what he says, I've assumed that we can't use the Terrain Platelet for height or cliffs.
Oh wow, I forgot to hit UPDATE before I left for school.

Just to see what you guys think.

What's the point of the checkpoint and the traffic light? The rail seems to defeat the purpose of them.
It's a bad attempt at a rail station. lol
First time at the WTE. Here's my attempt.
