Does anyone know why Sc2 has so few levels of cliffs? WC3 has so many, and many mappers used them well. Therefore it's hella hard to replicate maps from WC3. Is there any way of getting more in the editor?
SC2 no be warcraft in a lot of ways unfortunately, this is one of the most annoying. Only thing to do is make fake cliffs with the elevation tool and the pathing tool I think.
The only thing warcraft was better at was map size and cliffs.... Other than that, the starcraft editor pretty much wins at everything. As far as I know, you cannot create more than the standard amounts of cliff levels. I suppose you can raise/lower terrain and use pathing blockers to simulate them, but that would just look off....

I think with the cliff elevation footprint you could add the vision effect, too.
But I didn't test if that works. That flag has been added with some recent patch and footprint editor works now, too.
I've always wanted blizzard to add "building blocks" into the editor instead of things already "pre-built", instead of cliffs terran elevation, rocks and one-way sight blockers. If they do this to more stuff we will have more freedom, just look at Minecraft, Little big planet etc. amazing things built just by granting the community the right tools.
They were specifically BUILT for that (; I don't believe starcraft is to that exctent.
Anyways, on topic of the cliffs, you're using doodads. That might work in an rpg-type map, but if you'd like to make a slim TD, those rocks just wouldn't fit in. I'd love to see you try and make them as simple as possible w/o the use of doodads :)
I was looking into the cliff models and stuff a while ago to try and see if there would be an easier way to 'fake' more cliff levels. But essentially, the method and screenshots posted by Sheogorath provide an easier outcome and a (possibly) less time consuming way to go.
Depends on what you dub 'hand-made', though. You can just put down some natural cliffs and toss a couple of rocks on them; takes about 10 seconds longer than regular cliffs.
Don't think it's ever actually less time-consuming, though.
If you're looking to make doodad cliff walls, either use: Rubble Walls, Temple Walls, or any other doodad blahs (simply making them thinner and copy/pasting).
A map is able to have up to 4 kinds of cliff. Each cliff can have 5 levels which are customizable. That means 20 different levels in total if you are imaginative.
how do I add more cliffs? I could really use this seeing as though I am making a Mini maze game. Meaning that I have 20 mazes and the same cliffs on all looks boreing as hell.
Easy. Go to the editor, open up the Terrain Texture Set tab, and select the terrain you're using. Find the Cliff Types (I think it's called that) and add two other cliffs that you want. Also, check out the Helm's Deep Map below.

you MIGHT be able to code a new cliff level in.

Homemade cliffs are awesome and much better looking then the normal ones, just look at this totally fair comparison:

Hand-made cliffs take significantly more time to make.

I mean making "cliffs" with no default Blizzard cliffs.

Could we have a screenshot, kind sir?
Mmmm... nobody uses the SC on this computer, so I'm waiting for it to do patch 1.5. I'll post a picture ASAP.
