For the life of me, I cannot get a custom soundtrack to play while a cinematic is running. I have no problem running the sound in game. However, as soon as a cinematic is started (via turn cinematic mode on) the soundtrack instantly stops. Upon exiting the cinematic, the soundtrack continues.
I did refer to this thread http://forums.sc2mapster.com/development/map-development/1822-playing-sounds-with-cinematic-mode/#p6 in which a problem like mine was addressed, but was still unable to get it working. Another strange question is the fact that some other maps I've downloaded and played have music running during their cinematics without this goofy "set channel volume" workaround. Any help or suggestion?
Take note of the last post of that thread you've linked:

Instead of doing "Set all sound channel volumes" it worked to just do "Set sound channel" and do Voice in this case... 2 different actions I guess just worded similarly.
Maybe that's why it doesn't work for you?
Anyway, during cinematic only a few Sound Channels play at full volume. A lot of them are muted.
If you play your sound as one of these muted sound channels it won't work.
If I remember correctly you can change the sound channel type in the data editor.
Sorry that I can't give more exact information right now, but I don't have the editor at the ready.

Brilliant. I went in the data editor and changed the type from "Voice" to "Music" and voila! It works. Thanks for the help.
