this is because the Unit does not link to the actor, but the other way around, the actor links to the unit.
So go to the actor tab, and search for the actor copy you made,
at the top of the actor (on the right) there is a field called "Unit Name" set this to your unit, and the actor will now be linked.

when your duplicating him, make sure you only duplicate the unit, and the actor, then make the actor target the marine, it sounds like your duplicating models, which is not needed.
Go to the actor for your duplicated marine, make sure hes targeting your unit, then, in the art-model field of the actor, make sure the correct model is selected.
