I tried to make a Flashlight for my Ghost.
My Idea is a Light similar like the Floodlight Doodad that is always shining in front of the Ghost and follows him around.
Anyone has any Idea how to accomplish that?
The only thing ive found was, that the Floodlight has a special Animation for the Light but since there is no way to edit the .M3 models yet, you cant copy that :/
Can't really help, but been trying this aswell.. Also, you can't really attach a small floodlight to a unit since the area lighted is dependent upon the size of the floodlight
Wild guess & not sure if its possible, but is there a way to change opacity for unit or doodad? That might work [if lowering the opacity doesent mess up the light as well].
hm I know theres a way of changing unit opacity (seen in the tech2 map thing, dun remember full name sorry) And perhaps it wont affact the light.. I'll ttry this right away
Update: Yea actually it works, you can create an actor model of the floodlight, and then set its opacity to 0.0001, this will make it pretty much invisible. A few issues though. I've tried working around the variation issue, since the double light variations look kinda weird as a flashlight. I've tried copying the floodlight model and simply restrict it to the right variatio, but it simply didn't show up, dunno why. Another issue is that when in effects, such as dust and stuff, the model will stuff show... It is however a pretty good work around I guess

You could try to attach a floodlight to the ghost then setting its scale to something small.

Yes but can't you just change the size of the attached floodlight?
@Norgannon: Go
Perhaps but that would reduce the size of the spotlight aswell...

just wait for Doodad Editing tools from blizzard
so u will be able to edit floodlight doodad, as u want ,and attach only floodlight part of the doodad
just wait...
Isnt there any way with a custom script to make a Flashlight? I nearly tried everything now ...
There are no Triggers for Light You cant attach a Floodlight to a Unit (smaller floodlight = very small light) No Light effects in Data Editor ...
Im going Crazy about this I want my Flashlight :D
You could create a pseudo flashlight using triggers that modify the Fog of War.
try a space platform wall light that thing isn't as bulky as the floodlight, but it might not be as powerful aswell...
Bumping for the OP in case someone has a great idea :)

Got any luck with the opacity?
I still haven't found a way to make a Flashlight ... grrr
I want Light triggers... Imagine all the maps with awesome ambiance would come out of that... *drools*

Thanks for your research !!
At least we got 1 step further in making a working flashlight :)
So how can I attach a Floodlight to my Ghost so it moves with him and acts like a Flashlight?
Use the Attack Actor Model to unir option. So far attaching the model to the origin of the unit works the best for me

Could you guide me how to set opacity , can't find such options there :)

Same here.
Wouldn't it be possible to attach Omnilights in a line in front of the unit so that it looks like a flashlight?
Need a guide how to do that ... no clue :D
