Monthly Mapping Exercise [MME] allows you to practice your Terraining, Data, and Triggering Skills all at once.
This will allow people to balance out between Terraining, Data Editing and Triggering.
For the first map it will be basic. You will have half a month because this will require no Data Editing nor Triggering.
Please note that a winner WILL be announced. If the map does not meet the minimum requirements below it is not eligible to win.
This MME is going to be a Melee Map.
Main Requirements:
2 Expansions Per Player
2 Rich Mineral Deposits
Choke point in the center of the map
Expansion Requirements:
Rich Mineral Deposits must be near the central choke point
I finished my map up... Put more various terrain and put a little noise on it as well... It's still pretty bland...
I added ramps to the vantage points... [They were supposed to be there before but they got deleted when I was modifying them...]

Is it the similar one to what's happening in team liquid forums ? I cant find much melee mapmakers here though. pm me if you want more exposure for this exercise.
Edit: nvm, melee map are specific to this week only, but this have too many restricted rules, you can always share some idea for an actual contest for mapster :) (in fact our contest is like once a month..)
Much better restriction. That will help people be able to make there own unique map easier. :) Only thing is, with your Xel"Naga restriction, you should have it so its not required to be in the central, but where most of the action and movements will be.

Another edit: I've changed the terrain in the bottom & top, and added some LoS blockers
its not exactly finished but this is my first melee map. I THINK it has what you are looking for. Sorry, like I said this is my first EVER map... I know its got err, issues. my next attempt will be with Shakuras terrain and i know I can do waaaaay better now :)
the one blue/watery spot probably wont be water..but some other movement blocker (like small elevated area with a statue)
Definitely needs a lot of work, but figured I'd post some early WIP shots. The texturing will likely take a while since I plan on doing it in similar style to a texture test I did with the editor a while back;
I hope the middle counts as a choke point...
Also, 4 bases per player is seriously very little.
My golds would have been bigger/better if they didn't have to be next to the choke point...

The idea you have here is good. But...You have this way too restricted imo.

And that will mostly be in the choke points... Remember there still is a central choke point restriction...
Hope your restriction (choke point) doesn't mean: only one path.
How about making Sc2 melee map together! It would be similar to the project when people made that big terrain.
Eh... I was thinking about that but I thought there would be too much going on with everything... Mabye though...

I don't understand the point of having a winner. I thought any of the exercises were for fun and to help each other learn the editor.
Using this thread as an excuse to finally learn the mapping tools a bit more.
