Hey guys,
Right now I am working on a WoW style 3rd person capture the flag map like World of Warcraft's Eye of the Storm. There's one flag in the middle and four neutral bases that can be captured. The flag has to be returned to one of the captured bases, not the spawn point. The spawn point will just be for respawning when you die and it will probably have a healing fountain and maybe vendors if I decide to put items in it.
So anyway, the point of this thread is to get everyone else's opinion on the basic layout of the map. Keep in mind that this is just the basic layout for the terrain, I realize that it is very bland looking I just didn't want to put a whole lot of time into making it look good if I wasn't going to keep it. If it is pretty good than I'll fix it up a bit and make it look better without changing the terrain enough to effect gameplay.
I honestly can't say I'm a fan of the singular paths. To get from flag to the SW base, you can take 2 paths. It feels limited to me, perhaps add another path from the flag room to the highrises. I don't know. Just seems to limited to me. At least its better then WoW's version with only 1 route to run and pray.
Hmm ok, good point. But keep in mind it is only 5v5 too. I don't know if that changes your opinion or not. Maybe I could add a ramp coming down from the high ground on the far east and west so that the side paths can be used to return the flag too. That could help, but at the same time I think that might make it TOO easy. It's worth trying though. Thanks for the feedback!
Make flag carriers run slower. A third path isn't really too easy imo. Adding that path may be nice, also for the reason that being on the high ground, is SUCH a long path, if your teammate sees the flag carrier on the other side of the map, its going to take you 3 hours to get off that high ground as it stands.
Yeah :p maybe instead of adding a path I will move the ramps for the high ground paths so that they are closer to the middle so you don't have to go so far... Or maybe I'll do both. But having that path so long probably isn't a good idea because it probably won't be used very much.
