For the upgrade - just remove a requirment from a behavior (or effect, don't remember).
I believe there's a flag in weapon which kills the unit after the weapon is fired. Just tick it off.
I removed all the effects that had the word "suicide" in them, yet the baneling still dies when I use the ability. :/
Do you know why it is still doing this?
I believe it may be possible that the Baneling is dealing friendly fire damage to itself. If you think I could be correct, go into all of the damage effects and under Exclude+, add 'Caster', or Target Unit... I think either should work, since they're both the Baneling.

There should be a baneling suicide damage effect that you can delete so that the baneling doesn't kill himeself :)

I was just posting it because I made it and it's awesome. I don't care if you need the video or not.
But if you would like to know, I did it by just creating a new baneling at the position the old one died using a trigger.
