For some reason the kill reward resource is not working for critters like cows and dogs. How can I make it so that the kill resource works properly?

I think it may be because they're neutral. You also don't gain XP for killing neutral units. Try putting them on a hostile team and see if that fixes it.

Oh figured it out. Have to click the "kill credit" flag. Turns out critters don't have it on by default.
