I'm trying to make a map where units 'evolve' into others once their energy is full (or once they have a certain amount of kills, i havent decided). I understand triggers so it might be easier for me if there is a way to do it that way, but my friend said it might be better to do behaviours or abilities, which i dont understand at all.

Use a validated automatic Morph ability. This is the best way unless you want one unit morphing into several dozen different ones. This is only an issue because the 32 weapon/ability cap is then applied over all the linked units.
