How would I go about making it so that if a unit dies around a certain unit he creates say a broodling. Would I have a search area that would look for dead or what?
Here's my entry, not entirely happy with it... the ling's attack screws up some times and I couldn't figure out how to make the attachment zergling disappear when the magazine ability is used... well here it is. Again, if someone could make a video it would be much appreciated.
Unique I like it, I can see what you were trying to go for and see how its tough to put it together. all in all a nice attempt on the magazine ability.
A bit quiet this week, any more projects being kept quiet? :P
I wish I knew more about magazines... I was planning on having a Terran AG turret that could load up to 20 marines. Basically, every time it fires it loses a marine and the projectile looks like a marine... and of course, there would be a validator to stop it from firing with no marines. *sigh* oh the wonderful marine cannons I could make if I only knew anything about magazines...
On a more serious and slightly related idea... why AREN'T there any tutorials concerning magazines?
You want your zergling to have a STRAFE weapon. You would have to make a new one, with the Weapon Type as Strafe. Most weapons are Legacy, IIRC. You put the Leash(distance the magazine unit travels from the 'Mother' unit) to whatever(this is in the Arm Magazine effect), and then for the Strafe Weapon, set the Stats - Range to 0.1(just like a zergling I believe) and then set the Stats - Loiter to something like 1. The Period and pretty much the other fields are up to you. LOITER is the distance/radius a Hangar/Magazine unit can travel FROM the target after it has attacked. Again, you give your zergling/hangar unit the strafe weapon.
If you notice in my video, the broodlings run around, making it look like a swarm of units everywhere. The interceptors go in, attack, fly away to get some distance. Same with my broodlings.
Setting your Loiter to 1 or whatnot will have your zergling remain close by to the enemy unit while the host/mother unit is engaged/within range.
Also, if you look at the carrier, it has a Weapon(create persistent effect -> use magazine effect) that is flagged 'Hidden', in the default Combat - Weapons + field, and the a secondary "dummy" Weapon(Use Magazine effect) that is placed in the UI - Equipment Array+ field of the Carrier unit.
base your weapon off the carrier(and the interceptor) and you will have more understanding of it.
Nice Kangaroo :)
then again, you don't necessarily need a strafe weapon, but it's an idea ;)
Thanks for the advice, but I'm quickly losing.. momentum? I guess you could say that.. anyway, losing momentum with the editor. I started my main project a few weeks back, when me and my friend decided we wanted our own Tug map to play with other friends. We both came up with ideas, but I'm the one that has to make the damn thing. All on my own... I know I shouldn't complain because lots of people make brilliant maps by themselves but it still seems like lots of work... now he hasn't been online for ages and with all the crap I hear about the popularity system and how flawed it is, who the hell is gonna play this map if I make it all? Unless he comes back then no one, because it ain't got a hope in hell of getting anywhere near the first page. I've had great fun making this but... is there any point continuing?
Edit: Bit off topic, sorry. Thanks again for the advice, if I ever go back I'll try changing it about.
thats exactly why a lot of projects are not making it, and its killing the community, cause it just isn't working for the majority, not just the minority that make "popular maps" but this is not the place to talk about that.
As to the WDE, I'm affraid I won't be putting up another new one for this week, so I will leave this one up for another week, sorry :(

some sort of persistent maybe with behaviors im not sure
Buff type behavior with an effect handled when damage is fatal of the create unit type.

@DrSuperEvil: Go
Wouldn't that mean that it wouldn't be an arm magazine ability then?

im not interested in this one
Well, I could re-submit one of my entries for the Ubers WDE:
This actually uses magazines for the beams.
@Kueken531: Go
hehe I love watching those beams move around in a seemingly random pattern. heheh. I still like it :P
kueken is hiding in the bushes
because magazines can be easily accomplished but the uses of them are more difficult
@aczchef: Go
creating a new weapon is much more easily accomplished yet there are multiple tutorials for it...
exactly i think lol

OK so took a look at the map.

Don't worry, with the next patch it seems like it'll be better. If you can get on PTR I suggest putting your map there and trying that out.
@Keyeszx: Go
Heh, it's nowhere near done yet. I'm sure patch 1.3 will be live before I'm finished. Thanks though, looking forward to 1.3. :)
