First you need an upgrade, the only important thing in the upgrade is having the Upgrade - Affected Unit Array point to the unit you want to "unlock" this weapon to.
Second, the requirement, of Tech Type: Ability. In there, you set it up under the USE folder, Count Upgrade, your upgrade, Completed.
Third, the ability. Set it up however you need to, and in the Abilities - Commands + field, set the Requirement for Execute as the above requirement, and State set to available.
Fourth, the unit. Ability - Abilities + field, give him the ability. Ability - Command Card +, give him the ability, make sure Requirement is set to none.
Also be sure to add the upgrade to your structure that uses the upgrade.
but borg its a weapon ok let me put it this way i have a zergling with its regular attack and a ranged one but you have to research zergling spit with an upgrade button requirement all of that but no ability on the zergling. 250 m cannons was the closet thing to finding a weapon upgrade i could think of
after making the upgrade in the upgrade tab you then got to make an ability of type Research and add the upgrade to the research. i think if you look at engineering bays approach on upgrading the dmg of units and the units affected by it and how to give the research to a unit eg a button and the research ability :)
well reaper i just made the photon cannon shoot its normal missile but changes its impact effect to the psi storms (persistant) you give it a try if you want or dl this map i add as attachment and test it out(ps i had to friggin disable behaviours on photon cannon cos it was unpowered zzz)
sooo ye abilities effects and whatnot can be applied to units attack just check there weapon and check its effect-effect and found it was a missile and then opened that missile in effects window and changed its effect-impact effect
PS: to get creeps spawning just walk that karak into one of the cirlces infront of the heroes sorry bout that part but ye...
thank thank thank you zeropoints after that i could get it to work and i had some bugs after that i had it give him the weapon but he already had to weapon so i was like wtf
how would i go about making an upgrade that enables a units weapon because i cant figure this out i looked at 250 mm cannons but i dont understand it

Secondly, the strike cannon is not a weapon. It is a spell that has a requirement.

Create a behavior that disables the weapon.
Give the behaviour a Player Requirement validator that removes the behavior.
Make the requirement count your tech so that if the count is >0 it is disabled.
If that does not fix the issue you can make another behavior that enables the weapon with a requirement for your tech.

you cant make it switch weapons ? unlesss you have the auto cast matters waht yo uwanna do

I was thinking stuff like giving a photon cannon PSI storm as it's main and only attack and things like that. With custom weapon button as well.

hmmm wasnt that hard after the explanation of what he wanted. but i bet if i needed to do it on my own with no explanation it woulda taken me days >.<
