Hi. I just started learning the Starcraft II editor, but I hope to be caught up soon. I was an avid WC3 map maker and now I've upgraded. I'm having some trouble with the data editor. I'd like to make a unit based off the vulture from the campaign, or add spider mines to another unit. I tried to create a new unit, but there's no vulture to base it off. I thought maybe I could just add the ability to a different unit, but there is no spider mine ability either. Where do I find these within the editor? I feel like I'm missing resources from the campaign. Are these not included in the editor? :/
when you create a new map, it's default to load only the melee dependencies. Not to worry, you can add dependencies after your map has been made & saved!
Click on File, find Dependencies, click on that, then click on Add Standard, put a check mark next to Liberty (Campaign) and Liberty Story (Campaign), then click OK. Now you have campaign units/data in your editor/map!

Thank's so much, buddy!
EDIT: On another note, I notice the data editor is very laggy akin to Warcraft III's map editor when brush list was enabled. Are there any settings I should turn off which could maybe improve the speed of the editor?
File -> Preferences -> Video. You can put a check mark at the 'Match Game Settings'.
My PC is alright, not the best, so I have a custom mix of Medium/High/nothing Ultra for my ingame. But for the editor, I have this unchecked and have all fields set to High or Ultra. Sure, it's slightly laggier in the editor, but at least I can see what it REALLY looks like. Just customize this to your hearts desire.
And if you are talking about all the units you can place while in the Terrain - Unit Placement when you have all dependencies loaded... well... I don't htink you can fix that unless you search for each unit. That still lags tho.
EDIT: Oh... Brush List... as in painting terrain. I don't know, I have no lag even when set to High/Ultra.
one more thing. Right now there is a glitch (or maybe its fixed ,I dunno) but you gotta put the 4th dependency called campagin story at the top of the list.

Sorry, I should clarify. In the data editor, it lags really badly. I am on high-end hardware.
For example, if I try to change any of the data values it lags and takes a few seconds. If I switch to the 'actors' panel, it takes about 6-8 seconds before it switches. This all adds up and it really, really slows the process of making units down. In the Warcraft III editor it did the same until you turned off some brush list setting.
Ive got a slightly weaker comp i believe and i lag in certain areas of the data editor as well (mostly in the units tab once i have a 4 abilities, 1 learn ability, inventory ability and standard abilities linked, and about 10 behaviors)
Certain units lag badly for me, and its those with a lot of links. Is it the same for you, or do i have a seperate problem?
Also, a few things you can try: (prepare for lots of obviousness)
Turn of terrain editor if you dont need it
If youre running sc2 in windowed mode, switch it to fullscreen or turn it off (depending whether your RAM can take both the editor and game running, if yes, just keep it on fullscreen, which basically throws it into "stand by mode", while windowed actually makes the game constantly load everything it needs, making your comp go really slow if its not good enough)
Turn off the previewer when you dont need it
Turn off any bigger programs which are running on your comp. I had no problem with internet browsers and 10+ tabs including youtube and flash games, so i guess with "bigger programs" i mostly mean games or stuff like 3Ds max
My data editor lags quite much aswell, if I switch tabs or select units or something (about 1-2 seconds each. Does not sound much but it is very annoying and adds up over time). Switching tabs does not lag at all, if I enter any search word, though, only if it has to show all the data for this type.
Any data with a lot of links lags more and the more data is being showed in general, the more lag.

I always put my campaign story dependency at the bottom... I don't think it matters anymore? Never heard of that bug, though...

There's a button on the top alone with 4-5 others. Clicking it turns your GUI view into a list view, which is a lot less laggy.
I'm in the list view... lol :(
My data editor doesn't lag...lol, and i'm using a 4 year old laptop.

Mind telling us your comp specs? I never lag in the data editor....
Phenom II X3 720 2.8GHz O.C. to 3.2GHz
4GB DDR2-800 RAM
ATI 5770HD 1GB GPU
I can't think of anything else that would be relevant. It's not super high-end, but it's fairly capable.

All I can say at this point is that Blizzard's shit work in mysteries ways and they need to fix them.
I only lag when switching between tabs or search but that's to be expected.
