I know, not the greatest ever. But unlike the tempest, the soul hunter's model never made it into our hands.
I used the Tassadar model and swapped textures. Attached a texture swapped Void seeker and Templar archive for a hoverboard. Will include screenshots shortly. NO STATS HAVE BEEN ADDED YET.
Hey, I've been working on a tempest revival (I do not have 3ds max so i've had to use in game events to designate texture changes.)
Here's what i've got so far. (Using Gimp 2 and recoloring the textures by hand.) (Yes the shurikens have re-textured models also.)
I'm still working out some of the kinks with what I'm able to (Kinda limited since i can't edit the models.).
I've also got an issue with the Tempest's death model, I can't for the life of me figure out how to swap it's texture out using events. (I have made a new texture.) (Carriers don't have death actors, So neither does the tempest.)
In the picture, That's actually a tempest dying, not a carrier. I can't figure out how to swap that texture. If anyone knows how please let me know.
I'd also appreciate some feedback on the tempest.
Tempest uses the unused voice acting of the Corsair (In lore Corsairs are Dark Templar crafts, so it's fitting that their version of the carrier gets that voice.)
Tempest Undershield, Reduces all damage from the ground to 3. Works even without shields being up. Does not affect air attacks.
Build Shuriken, Builds shurikens which deal 8 damage, melee range, and can target air and ground.
Tempest Vulnerabilities:
- ALL air units (Including other tempests.)
-Massed ground units (A large amount of ground units such as a typical marine rush would take down a tempest easily.)
-It's armor and shields do not gain much when upgraded.
-Shurikens are melee units, Which means they'd have to fly up to a target to attack. (Might not be great against certain units.)
-Shurikens do not have anti-ground shields, as such if they are taken out, the Tempest is useless.
Tempest Strengths:
-Good for base assaults if the enemy is heavy on turrets (They'll only do 3 damage)
-Good if in large groups against large groups of ground targets (While marine mass will kill a tempest, a group of tempests will hold out much longer and be very affective.)
The tempest didnt use Interceptors, it used shruikens,
the tempest was also more darker blue,
your right about the tempest undershield, exsept it was reduce the damage by 3, not to 3
Oh, i see you have shruikens, but they wernt looking like that, they looked like a spining blade, bright blue too
Mainly i'm focusing on the model/texture aspect. Does it look good? Also no, I got the coloration right, It looks like a dark blue because most of the photos of the tempest were against a black background. Several in game screenshots show it looks like the stalker armor.
Also, The undershields weren't really explained much, It caused the tempest to take little damage from ground, Which in this case it works properly. I tried reducing damage, It didn't do much. I believe the intention was for a shield like that of the immortal.
I was planning to give Tempests that shield too. Right now my Tempest unit is just a recolored Carrier. You may want to check the model I used for the "shuriken", its one of the protoss relics, the one that has two round "blades" on each side. I retextured it to look more like a protoss unit. The problem with the Shuriken is that it has no advantage over an interceptor, unless you make it deal more damage or have a shorter cooldown. Also its a lame name for a protoss unit. I'm planning to give Tempest another attack unit and forget about shurikens.
Good idea using the Corsair soundset, I was thinking I should use it for some air unit and I still haven't decided which one.
I have a set of textures for the Carrier that change its death anim color properly. It's another texture that you have to change. I originally also had trouble with it, but managed to fix it.
EDIT: You have to change BOTH Carrier_Diffuse_Death AND Carrier_Diff_Death, or else it doesn't work. It's quite peculiar indeed. I have attached some textures I made myself a few months back. The texture color is spot-on with the current Dark Templar Scheme, I made sure of it. Yours looks a bit silver.
I've also attached 3 maps for the Carrier. You have to run them to see the changes, as the changes in texture do not show in the editor. One of them has the textures but without the proper textures for the death anim, another has those textures, and the last one is a properly textured gold Carrier. It still had a DT diffuse or specular map, which made it look less shiny than other Protoss units, so I fixed that.
Note that the DT Carrier textures attached here might not be properly named. I would just suggest downloading TextureCarrierTestB and extracting the textures from that map. That map has all the correct textures, properly named.
As a bonus, I also put up a proper Void Ray diffuse texture, which makes the color scheme less silver and more DT. (color is based on the DT and Stalker's textures).

After looking at the shadows cast by the model SoulFilcher used for his shuriken interceptors...It seems to me like that was originally the model for the shurikens, but Blizzard's art team simply repurposed the model, enlarged it and changed its texture to make it into one of those artifacts.
I'm quite happy with the current carrier texture i made. I'm going to be re-texturing soon to make it more smooth but that'll take some time. As for the soul hunter, Well. I took the model of tassadar and retextured it as best as I could. Then attached the Void seeker (If you've seen the vids of the old soul hunter, the weapons look pretty similar) and then slapped him onto a templar archive because they too look similar. It's not the greatest but I like it.

As for the silvery thing, That's actually the lighting. I used the Stalker's color scheme as a base (since the Void ray is inaccurate, i noticed that as well.) I tried it once with the void ray scheme, It didn't look right.
I don't think the Void Ray needs a new texture and I like Delirum's Tempest texture I won't change it. Yes it needs to have a proper death model. I fixed the Tempest's warp in effect it was very easy, since it uses the same textures. I'm not going for the original Tempest in my mod, I'll give it another attack unit. Glad you liked the relic idea.

I have a higher resolution version of the tempest texture. My mod uses a downsized one. If you're not concerned about size, you can use this one.

The shield is from the original tempest unit so it fits. Good idea with the relic though! Looks way better.
Dont forget you can make them spin using a forward vector and some models that change their scale.

With the campaign dependencies there is a model called soul hunter beam with variations 1-3.
