I need a new model (well, three, actually: a portrait, a body model, and an attack model) for my Hydralisk Hero (Kheldrun). I really would like someone to do this for me, please, as I have no way of getting a good 3d modeling program (I did the school thing, it didn't accept my email). I'm also a really bad modeler. The following should be not too difficult for a good modeler.
The hydralisk model (with some additional additional animations) is sufficient for a base. However, he needs the following additional things:
Model:
[] A glow that outlines his model (light blue in color)
[] Eyes that flash with Psionic energy (also light blue)
[] Spell casting Animations (like Pisonic energy arcing around him when he casts a spell, I dunno about body movement, though)
[] Psionic needle spines - Needle spines with a Psionic glow to them.
He will, of course, require a burrow model/animation, attack animations, etc. Hence why I think the Hydralisk as a base would be best because it has all those features already.
Portrait: - base it off the Hydralisk one again
[] Glow around the body, maybe some wispy Pisonic energy like with the Archon.
[] The eyes need to not only glow, but crackle with that same energy.
You will get credit in my map and in my campaign I'm planning for making the three models here. Please, would anyone be willing to help someone in need? :(
whoever makes his model, i got some models for you to make too. :) make my models!!!!! haha GL aegis
i did see in a post a while back there is a way to get free 3d studio as long as you have a school email account. i logged on there and made my claim to free 3d studio it seemed to work. i was on my laptop and didnt want to dl it to here so i never actually clicked download. but it showed me the links for all the software to dl for free (i think its a 6 month or 1 or 2 year license you get for free depending on the version you want to download). but ever think of trying to do this yourself aegis? your request seems like a great place to start learning as its not all indepth on a completely new model.
edit: im no longer in school, but still have an email with my alma matter. and that seemingly worked for the free version of 3d studio. just an fyi to every1
/*sigh* I just tried. They won't accept my email address as a valid school email address, even though that is the one on my ID and the one officially used for school. /*le sigh*
I'm not really a modeler, to be honest, but I noticed another thread about a Psionic Zergling. He said he used a scaled down Archon effect.
Maybe if you tried to do that you could *possibly* get the effect you're looking for?
Not exactly sure if it will work for you, was just throwing it out there.
EDIT: And I didn't mean for it to be a one thing fix all type thing. I just remembered that you wanted a bunch of new models/animations. But still, a scaled Archon effect might work, at least for some of it.
Unfortunately, I don't think I could see that because... I play lowest settings. You won't believe how ugly archons are on lowest settings. X_X; I'd really prefer the model, since I want the glow to do things when he casts spells, and the like, but I'll give it a try.
Where do I go for attaching units onto units?
Edit: I tried. I seriously tried, but I can't figure out how to use/find attachments. I know you can see them in the previewer, but how can I modify the actor to have the mini-archons? And do I have to make the mini-archons?
Edit 2: I just saw the Psionic Zergling. That looks EXTREMELY ugly. Sorry, that's really not the effect I want.
For a glow outline his model (or missile), creat a actor (duplicate it from feed back lauch/impact is best, also the model), change the model for suitable (i think the Hallucinate Birth is best, i use it for my "Ice impact" too), Host Site Op change to "SOpAttachCenter" (already with feedback impact).
Now go to "Event", creat a new event: Unit Birth>your unit name; action: Create. And another one for Unit Death/destroy.
For the missile, may be Actor creation>your missile actor (i haven't tried yet)
Bad news: I can't make the model myself because my computer's specs don't meet the requirements of 3DS Max. My hope is that maybe, just maybe, Blizzard's tools will allow editing of models. Either that or I get a new computer, which seems impossible because I'm fairly poor.
Edit: @MrZ3r0: I tried your suggestion and while it worked for a second, the glow wasn't constant. I played around with the "ActorCreation" term a bit, but it didn't cause the Hallucination effect to be constantly played. :/
Umm, I think that for those things you don't really need to make a new model, you could use the data editor to create new effects. For example, look at the DoTA map with the hydralisk boss with fire outline, he just used the editor and some creativity to do those effects.
Working on a model is really hard and time-consuming, so if you can save efforts by applying creative means, it would be great I think.
Yeah, but can you create the animation effects such as flashing eyes and arcing lightning around the body when he casts a spell?
I mean, you are right. Making the glow can be easier through actor effects (though I still haven't figured out how to do it). But I would, overall, prefer a model. :S

I have tried looking at the archon, and I can't seem to find the glow effect. If someone would point me to it, that would be nice. :P
@AegisRunestone: Go
what you would do is attachsmall archons to the "head" "target" and "origin" points. both weapons if possible. should create a nice glowy effect.
Unfortunately, I don't think I could see that because... I play lowest settings. You won't believe how ugly archons are on lowest settings. X_X; I'd really prefer the model, since I want the glow to do things when he casts spells, and the like, but I'll give it a try.

Do u change play once to play forever(first event in actor/event).
Or may be the hallucation birth only play once. Try with another (archon birth may be good).
I can make your model. When do you need it? I won't be able to work on it over the course of next week.
I need it ASAP. Though, I won't rush you if you can't work on it this week. Thank you! :)
Oh dear. Haven't heard from him in almost two weeks. Is he all right? :S
