Hahaha, scarabs are adorable! Here's what I got from the tiny picture you gave me. I took a little liberty with the diffuse texture and I'm sorry if it looks bad or anything, because I'm not the best at texturing.
Hehe, that's an awesome Scarab! I guess the only problem with that is that you don't get to see its detail because it's usually launched at the enemy before you can get a good look at it.
Unless these are used like Spider Mines, too. Still, I like the detail. Better than those magically-flying cubes. :/
If you dont like it I can redo the texture, I'm sure with a little practice I can make it look much better, and I'm a very fast learner. I think It looks funky because the lines arn't sharp or steady enough on it. I'll figure it out.
Aaaaww soo cute !!! I like it,model vote 9/10,textures vote 6.5/10.I am not telling you that they are bad,the real problem is that the colors are a bit weird, but i have a little request, could you use the colors of the khala?Like the khala Yellow of the Tempest and the part that you did on blue could be team colored. This is a little suggestion,i see that you are really good at doing model but you need to improve your textures,so i told you that, but i don't want to appear like the Classic guy of "Could you do this, that and that other one ??"
Anyway thank you for this scrab is really tiny and sexy :3
OK, I gotta ask, How does blizzard create their specular maps? because i'm looking at a few and I have no idea how I could produce something of similar quality.
Start with your diffuse map, desaturate it and tweak the brightness/contrast until you're happy. (Darker and higher contrast, generally. Keep the highlights bright, but make most of it pretty dark.)
For Protoss they tend to use a yellow-orange color range instead of greyscale to give it a more natural golden shine.
You want me to make a sc1 zergling? is that what your asking? And I based the sc1 hydra right of of the ingame art from sc1. also When I sculpt the high polys of all these models their form and shape may change slightly. Yes I can change the torresque spikes.
EDIT: If you go look at the pictures, the hydra actually looks like that.
EDIT:
Ugh, making good textures is incredibly time consuming... well here is the scarab with more "professional" looking textures.
I want to make the arms and back fin team colored, but I don't really know how to... still trying to figure that out. Anyways please tell me what you think!
PS, you guessed correctly, I actually am making a sc1 zergling. :)

Oh yeah but if Phalanax want to make stuffs, this could be a fast dessert :p

Thanks! I still think it'll be fun to watch the innocent looking little guys fly over and explode on everybody.
Maybe SoulFicher can talk to you how to made good textures.

The poly limit was just a warning if you want to use the model for units used in masses. I would add an emissive to the scarab rear.

ok, cool. thanks! :)
Here are some suggestions for hydra sc1:
For Torrasque can you made the spikes on his back similar to the HotS Torrasque?
