I'm trying to familiarize myself with various features of the data editor and I was experimenting with importing models. I downloaded an asset off of SC2Mapster and tried to import it. It was described as having the model and textures.
I followed the instructions on various links and imported the model. It seems to have worked properly, but for some reason, the textures in the asset are in .dds form, which seems to be the other file type SC2 uses for textures. Is there something different I need to do to make .dds textures work? Most of the instructions talk about .tga textures.
Hmm dds textures should work. Just make sure you import the dds textures first, SAVE and then import the model. If it still doesn't show the texture try Restarting SC2 Editor. This worked for me sometimes. Also make sure you have the textures in none folder when imported to the map, else the model can't find the texture. =3
On a side note, I was playing around in the data editor when something kind of strange happened. I made a hero based off of Zeratul (duplicating almost everything). Everything was working for a while, but I had to rename my unit when something didn't quite work as planned.
For some reason, after that change was made, the hero turned into a semisphere placeholder model instead. At first I thought it was a broken link, but all the links are appropriate. Then I found something quite odd. The Assets\Units\Protoss\Zeratul.m3 file itself was deleted somehow. The folder is there, but the previewer displays the file in that folder (Zeratul.m3) as a half sphere.
Is there any way I can easily fix this?
EDIT: Wow. Never mind. I reloaded the map and it's working again...
The editor requires a restart every time you import a new texture for it to appear on a model. Also anytime you change the path of the texture or model it requires a save or even a restart.
I have each of those models internal texture path set to Assets/Textures. So make sure that is your path when you import the textures.
Keep checking back because it's likely I'll be updating them to fix/add textures animations and attachment points.
I have a question about the Assets/Textures you are talking about. Is it an actual folder in the editor and where is it found? The area I looked in seems not to even have an Assets folder to access.

Alright. Thanks.
