As the title says, are there any Halo models for SC2? This aint a request, hence why it's not in the request forum, I'm just wondering if some have already been made.
I haven't seen any, although I'm sure you could find some somewhere.
I dunno about that. There STILL aren't Halo models on WC3, and that suckers been out for years. Despite it's popularity, people just don't seem to make models based on it lol.
If it's published there will be a high chance of being removed because of copyright issues.
Because Blizzard's gone from "cool, create whatever you want", to money-grubbing cunts. Sigh. Their big-brother mentality, micro-managing every aspect of custom content, sole reason I refuse to buy the game v.v
yes there is a "shapecircle" model that can be used.
Tint it and set the opaccity . It should glow as well I believe.
Oh halo models? why would you need them..... Im just theres Fan made 3d models out there already.
and if you were to use actual models from the game halo ... if anybody notices and reports you say bye bye map on bnet
Yeah, Blizzard can go suck a dick, atleast on WC3 I could put such maps forward without having them removed. Big Brother at it's finest. But meh, my ranting aside I likely wont publish my map, I mean fuck I don't even own SC2 (because of the bullshit regarding custom content). But I would like halo models for my map. Needless to say, seeing a zealot shooting a plasma rifle by waving his sword is a little underwhelming.
Umm you realize its technically illegal to use copy written material......
how does using halo models make a map better....
go make your own models dont cry that your not allowed to rip people off... blizzard is more concerned about getting sued then anything,
How would making my own models help? Do you even know what you're talking about? I'm not asking if someones ripped models from a Halo game, I'm asking if there's been any made. If copywrite holds true over self-made models (sometimes it does), then making them myself wont change anything.
Besides, Blizzard wouldn't be liable for being sued if they weren't stupid fucking assholes, and didn't force us to host our maps on their servers. They couldn't get sued for maps made in WC3 or SC, because they held no responsibility, it was even in their eula. But now that they FORCE us to host our maps on their servers, they're liable, and as such limit us. Fucking despise them for ruining custom content like this, they made a fantastic editor that allows us to do almost anything, and then ruined it by putting so many limitations on Bnet, that we can't do anything truly creative or inspired. All we can do is make gimicky minigames.
I digress, I still want to know if Halo models exist, if my map gets pulled off Bnet for using them, so be it. Doesn't hurt me since I don't even own the game. If that does happen, at the very least I'll be content with my map.

This makes me wonder why your at a sc2 community, that is about sc2 modding.
All you seem to do is complain about how horrible blizzard made it, and still you stay here?
That must mean that even if it is limited, it is superior to alot of other modding tools.
You should not complain. And especially not about blizzard not allowing you to use replicas of copy righted material.
There should be no need for a halo model, you can just replace them with similar models from sc2.
Why would you want to make a sc2 map that looks just like halo anyway? there is no point it that. The whole point of the modding community is be creative and create awesome maps, not copy already existing games.

First of all, I'm here because this place is NOT about SC2, it's about SC2 modding. If you've noticed, I haven't complained about the editor, I've complained about Blizzard, and especially Bnet.
Also, you must be one of those mappers who make "original" tower defense games and the like. As you said, part of modding is creating new and unique things. Now, last I checked, you can create a new and unique map based on a specific universe. Just because my map is set in the Halo universe, and thus needs Halo models to look good, does NOT mean it's been done before. It doesn't mean it's an FPS copying the Halo games or anything. Honestly, if your idea of "creative" is simply doing something with absolutely no ties to anything, period, then I've got bad news for you, anything you create has ties to SC due to the models you use :(.
So yeah, there is a point in using Halo models, because my map takes place in the Halo universe. And in the Halo universe, the humans didn't use T shaped battlecruisers, and the covenant didn't use flying dildo's. So sue me for wondering if models existed that'd make my map look good, and actually follow the source material.

But.. thats what i said? I clearly said "This makes me wonder why your at a sc2 community, that is about sc2 modding." I also said that you are complaining about blizzard, i did not say that you complain about the editor.
I dont really understand why you pretend that i said something else there.
And you do not have to go all out on people that make TDs, a TD did just get the first gold revive on this sites newspage.
I have never created a TD either...
And no, i can not say that i create original stuff, insted i create stuff inspired by blizzards games, like Diablo III Warcraft for example. And i can tell you one thing, The map got INSANELY popular and people said that it was like diablo before we used ANY custom model or skin that resembled anything from diablo III itself. We used a freaking Orc as barbarian and reskinned him, and guess what, people said that it was freaking awesome.
We also used a quil boar with a lantern or something in one of his hand once for the witch doctor, just becouse the witch doctor was so weird, and people was totally fine with that. It took like 6 months before we replaced it with a custom model, and people didnt complain.
And why does a StarCraft II map that take place in the halo universe need to use halo models? You could easily replace them with for example Marines and Zealots for both sides.
And then you use the phoenix for that purple vehicle from halo 3 (cant remember the name), you just paint it purple and its close enough.
You could also use the hellion for the classic halo car. It even have a nice gun on top of it just like the car in halo.
and so it continues. The map can absolutely be good without the use of models from halo. Creativity goes far sometimes.
And i am not saying that the map have been made before, but you do not have to use the halo universe at all, do you? With some creativity you could create your own universe have resemble the halo universe in almost everyway, but it looks different and stuff have some different names.
And i never said that your suppost to do something that isnt tied to ANYTHING, but you could atleast be a bit creative, you do not have to make something that looks exactly like halo for it to feel and be just like halo.
And i am pretty damn sure that you could use a medivac/banshee or whatever with a reskin if anything at all to make it fit.
I've been using the models, I kinda have no choice. But let's face it, some things from Halo simply doesn't have an analog in the game. Sure a marine could fit a UNSC marine. But what about jackals? Hunters? Brutes? The human side of things is easy, it's the aliens that are a hard. Very little even remotely resembles the covenant, so it's such a stretch. I mean obviously I can make do, but that doesn't mean I don't want models.
If, on your Diablo map, you had the choice between a diablo model or a WC one, which would you use? Obviously we want our maps to LOOK good, and while having a battlecruiser substitute for a Marathan works, and people wont care. That doesn't mean I'll just go "eh, good enough". Like all creators I strive for perfection, that includes aesthetics. I'll make do with what I have, now, but I'll also look for proper models, just like you did with your diablo map.
And while I COULD create a unique universe, I don't want to. I mean going back to your Diablo map, why didn't you make a brand new, unique universe? Because you didn't want to, you wanted to recreate Diablo. Well I want to recreate Halo, since I enjoy the universe and the lore behind it.
In the end, we're woefully off-topic. This thread isn't about why mappers may want custom models in their maps, it's about whether or not those custom models even exist.

It depends. When we were working on the project the limit in wc3 was about half of what it is now in filesize. I think it was 4000kb, was it?
And i would not use custom models that resemble a game that is not made by blizzard. I just think it is wrong. There is a reason for why they want to copy-right material. Making an almost exact copy of it should not make any difference.
And if you strive for perfection, you should NEVER try to copy an already existing title, especially in the graphics, that is the most stupid thing you can do.
If you want it to be perfect, it is always a good idea to take for example halo, and then recreate the world so that it suits the available resources you have.
I for example plan to make a sc2 campaign similar to the 3D zelda games (I have played zelda since i were 3, starting with a link to the past, i own all games, i own multiple copies of many games, i have gold cartrigdes, i have gold CDs, i even have a zelda nintendo DS. That should probably explain how much i like the zelda series).
But even though i like it THAT much, i took pieces from different zelda games and then recreated it in the StarCraft universe. And wut, now you have Legend of Zelendis, where a young Protoss (with the model of a Zealot) will have to save the world.
I dont see why you really need to do HALO and it is like impossible to recreate it to fit starcraft, and insted have the risk of getting your project banned from battle.net due to copy-right issues.
And while I COULD create a unique universe, I don't want to. I mean going back to your Diablo map, why didn't you make a brand new, unique universe? Because you didn't want to, you wanted to recreate Diablo. Well I want to recreate Halo, since I enjoy the universe and the lore behind it.
You do not have to make a unique universe, you can create one that resembles the one in Halo.
And do you seriously think we "recreated diablo III"? How could we possibly do that. All we had was 1 single gameplay video, that was all we had.
There was no such thing as ingame previews or whatever, we started that project over 2 years ago. And we actually had an original class at the begining that did not exist in the d3 universe. And sure, i did want to create original content, it was the "fans" that was against it. they wanted us to make it similar to what was announced, for the very reason that we called it diablo 3 warcraft. It was pretty much like this "If you call it diablo 3, then make it like diablo 3".
This could turn into a problem for you aswell, if you name it halo, be ready to get some nerd rage from people that complain about you adding original content.
And it is nothing wrong with the fact that you like the lore, i think thats awesome, but you can use the lore and create your own universe with it.
If you have the lore behind a zelda game, you could EASILY rewrite the an entire game so that it fits starcraft II just perfect, but still be pretty much exactly the same.
There was this hylian that was taken to kokiri people... No.. wait.. It was this protoss that was taken to the X people (whatever you wanna call them).
And he lived in the kokiri forest.. Or maybe it was in some kind of Ruins located in the forest with a nice touch to it.
And the whole point is to save zelda from ganon(dorf).. No.. wait.. It was to save Selendis, The Princess.. Ohh, and it was not ganondorf, it was that damn annoying Templar (by the looks of it anyway, just add some dark colors to the texture)) that can transform into a Hybrid.
Now, this would fit pretty well. The idea is still exactly the same, but i use the resources that the starcraft universe has to offer.
And guess what, i waited with this project becouse there is not much resources yet. IF it will be required. but so far nothing have the requirement of custom resources, and i have a word file with a few hundred rows where i have written exactly what will happen during the game and how everything will work, but it is still almost exactly like ocarina of time, but it does not require any custom resources at all.
Just think about it. It feels like you are trying to convince yourself that you MUST make it look EXACTLY like halo, and this is not a good thing. This could do more bad then good. If you atleast give it a chance and try to make it do-able with the existing resources i am sure that you will be able to make a map that is just as good, if not better. This would also give you more freedom. becouse if you do a halo map, it have to be halo, right? otherwise there is no point of making it look exactly like halo.
In the end, we're woefully off-topic. This thread isn't about why mappers may want custom models in their maps, it's about whether or not those custom models even exist.
BTW if you woulda actually read my post above, I said it would be fine if you use fan made models.....
Did you search google for fan made models before coming here?
Why hate on blizzard. Personally I like the fact that they are hosting the maps on thier end. It helps with alot of things. They wont ban your map for using custom models that look like halo stuff.. Though I would suggest you use slighyly different names if you intend for your map to be insanely popular and not have an issue with a map take down.
Blizzard makes awesome games. Gone are the days of ambiguity where only "true" gamers play games. Blizzard has to worry about bad press. They didnt have to worry back in the day.
I did a quick look around and im not seeing any. If you really want some halo look-a-like models post a request in the artist tavern. Otherwise scour the interwebs till you find some. To be honest though, your gonna have a hell of a time finding models that will animate properly in SC2.

Models not specifically made for SC2 are pretty worthless, as you said, they wouldn't work properly and would likely be way too high in the poly-count. But if none exist, meh. None exist on WC3 after all these years, and I survived then, I'll survive now. Still a bummer though, a zergling just isn't the same as a grunt.
Also, I hate blizzard because of their big-brother mentality. Them hosting maps on their servers doesn't help in the slightest. Load times? You could just go to a website and download the map directly if you wanted it right away, otherwise the peer to peer download over Bnet was fast enough, unless you were playing some MASSIVE map.
I like things left in the hands of the people, atleast when it should be. There simply is no reason for Blizzard to micro-manage the content we create. They have no reason to give two shit's what we make our maps on, or what we name them, or even if we steal models from games and throw them in. It simply isn't their place. If say, Microsoft took exception of me stealing models from their games, let them come after me directly. By controlling what we can and can not do, they limit us. And I don't like being limited.
Besides, you can't defend that shitty popularity system, that is beyond redemption. You may be able to come up with excuses to defend the other things, but NOBODY can come up with a defense for that abomination. Not letting us host our own maps is about the worst thing they could have done. I mean, atleast with players hosting you'd see what maps were being played NOW, that very second. With this shitty popularity system, you know only the top 10 (if you'e lucky) maps are being played. And if you join a different map, you'll never get anyone to play with since they think it's empty. Ugh, such a horrible system.
Yeah well. You can only beat a dead horse so much. Blizzard has said they will do something to fix it.
They designed it all for noobs who suck at games IMO.
I like them hosting because well, I dont have to manually search for updated versions of maps i like.
As a author I can just publish and bam everybody has my newest version, People cant name thier map the same as mine. I dont have to look at stupid fake maps where people spam free sex.
As for thier content policy..... so far they ban offensive words and warn people not to use copy written material. But ive seen a DBZ map up there for like 3 months now with copy written material in it that has yet to be removed......
I think you need to quit slamming blizzard... I mean if your that upset... quit mapping and quit giving blizzard your money. Most of us got through our "the pop system sucks" phase durring beta.
The popularity system really isnt that bad.... the only thing you dont have is where people will randomly join your game because its on the list.
In wc3 I could host a new map of mine and people would just randomly join. Sadly that is not the case.... Im hoping they do something that helps in this area.
Stop the bitching OMFG go flame blizzard everybody here agrees that the pop system is lacking.

I haven't given Blizzard any money, because I can't stand how they're handling custom content. I've only ever really played blizzard games for the user made maps, and in SC2 they basically went "fuck you", so, fuck them right back. But they DID make a good editor, so I'm using it and working on my map. Feels good to use the good thing they made, without helping to fund the bad.
And the fact that they wont fix a blatantly broken and shit system, just kinda supports me flaming the fuck out of them. "Hurr, only the top 7 or so maps can be played, everything else will never see the light of day, it's perfect!" Honestly? Like you said, we all knew the system sucked back in the beta, and they STILL refuse to fix it? I don't support companies who blatantly shit all over their fan-base like that.
I hope you realize your mistakes and correct your path
Wut? Do you actually like the popularity system? If so, maybe you should correct your path. That system is the worst system employed in any game I have ever seen, and that's saying something.

Fine, i wont continue. Just think about it, okay.

And if you really feel like pushing your luck here is a link to a furom that seems to be suggesting that you can actually extract the models from the games them selfs
http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/7844-Extracting-3D-Models-from-Halo-3/page2

I don't support companies who blatantly shit all over their fan-base like that.
jesus colt, what a horrible opinion you have
I hope you realize your mistakes and correct your path
Wut? Do you actually like the popularity system? If so, maybe you should correct your path. That system is the worst system employed in any game I have ever seen, and that's saying something.
