Hi does anyone know how to get your unit you make to show faction color? I know the existing sc2 units are black in areas were the color shows up, does the texture have to be that shade of black and then the players faction color will show up?
They way Team Colors show on a model is through the Alpha Channel on the Texture, and if the Texture is Flagged for "Alpha As Team Color".
The Texture does not need to be black in the areas you want team color, but it does give the best color result.
If your using trying to change the Team Color on a Melee Unit
-Open the Texture in Photoshop
-Open the Channels Tab ( Window > Channels )
-You should see 5 Channels (RGB, Red, Green, Blue, Alpha or Alpha 1)
-Select the Alpha Channel
-The Alpha Channel is Black and White,
Black is highest intensity White is no intensity ( color areas black where you want team color)
-Save as DDS with DXT5
-Import back into SC2 Editor in the Assets\Textures root
For Campaign Units and Custom Units
-You Will need 3DS Max or equivalent for editing M3 models
-Under the Diffuse Material, Enable Alpha as Team Color
-Save and proceed to the steps in "Color for Melee Units"
