I've tried for the past several days to find how to get auto-cast to work. I've tried countless amounts of ways to do this and even resorted to triggers. But (and I can't stress this enough) I do not want triggers what so ever. The data editer should be more than enough for what I'm doing until I start getting involved with the AI.
So what are some of the best ways to get an auto-cast spell. And I don't mean one that fires when the AI deems necesary but one that fires everytime the cooldown is finished. So in theory it'll fire every X seconds continuously.
i tried asking at battlenet forums but I've since discovered the place is as shitty as I hoped it wouldn't be. I've been a long time lurker here at mapster. I've enjoyed you're guy's vaaaaaast colection of tuts and just threads in general. I'll probably but a couple of your bilboards in my maps seeing as how you guys disserve it.
on a side note, tone down with the advertising, i'm sure traffic is high but there should hopefully be a loyal enough community here to have atleast a few people donate money to prevent the use of ads(specifically the ones that play video/audio),
Sorry to highjack your data forum with a ramble/intro/question but please answer it's frustrating that something so simple is taking up so much time...
u should look at other auto-cast spells like repair (SCV) and maybe even duplicate it. i looked at it and i found out that u should work with these 3 things:
Ability - Auto Cast Acquire Level
Ability - Auto Cast Filters
Ability - Auto Cast Range
Really? No good responses....... Well I expect this to be a question alot of GE beginers are wondering and yet there's no general tut on how the system works...
Just an update. I got my auto-cast to work. But I would still like some explaination of the way it works 'cause I don't really understand fully what I did.
-they must be instant or target a unit (you have to change target area abilities like psi storm (you have to change the first effect the ability uses))
-you have to flag it autocast and autocast on.
-you might want to change the ability target filters
-if you want to have smart autocast you need to create and add proper validators to ability smart validators
load my last public release of income wars and take a look at high templar psi storm and sentries.
Hey thanks bone. I'll definetly check you're map out sometime soon, I've been meaning to but I've tried for the most part to stay off sc2 and focus on learning more about GE. Anyhow thanks again, that's pretty much how I did it.
My only problem now is I need it to keep firing non-stop but when ever it gets hung up (ie the create unit effect has no more room to create which I'm also having trouble with expanding even though as far as I'm aware everythings set to max..) it'll stop firing - - that is until I guess my units are attacking/under attack which I imagine has to do with it being set to offensive, going to mess around with that now...
Hey guys,
First post!
Thanks to the previous comments i figured out what needs to be changed for auto-casting to work.
It can all be done inside the data editor, and i will tell how to.
-First off you open the abilities tab in data editor.
-next find the ability you would to make auto-casting
-click on it and all the data will be displayed
-in no particular order, ill do it the way i normally do it, first you go to the tab labeled "STATS"
- once there the very first thing that you see is Flags look through the flags to see which ones you would like (ie: Auto-cast, Auto-cast on, Turn Auto-cast off when owner leaves.)
- next you go back to the tab labeled ability
- For this step you must have "show advanced fields on", scroll through until you find " Auto-Cast level" depending on what the skill is you will have to decide which to use. (ie: Sniper round of ghost would be Offensive.)
- Next you will have to change the Auto-Cast range (right below Auto-casting level) The range can be farther than the normal range of the ability, the unit will just move to use it.
- This step MAY be skipped unless you want to set certain conditions that have to be met for the auto cast. Right below Auto-cast Range the is Auto-Cast validators (ie: Target is enemy, Target is NOT changeling, Target is Armored, etc.)
you have no clue how much you rock right now, i have spent way to many hours trying to get this to work. you are like my hero and god! well maybe just for the next 5 minutes or so. lol thanks again man
Im working on stimpack for marine. Ive flipped and flopped between offensive defensive and passive... for the "autocast aquire level" and Im piling on validators. so far ihave Taerget; is enemy, is visable, can attack... help?
The range is set to 500 (why not?? lol) and for testing I have everything instantly upgraded.. im keeping the requirements. so, I upgrade everything and my marines just attack as they normally do.
both types of Auto Cast are on.
What is the difference between Auto-cast and then Auto-cast on?
what else can I do to make my marines stimpack themselves?
Got it.... a very usable validator is "EnemiesNearby". I set the range to 500. stats- both auto-casts on... Depending on the ability I also change the costs and max the units energy.
