Xenosteel's Super Defenders
What's Xenosteel's Super Defenders?
- It's a Base Defense map. Build and defend against the zerg swarms.
- Default Starcraft 2 units and buildings, but they're 4x times stronger!
- Difficulty: Beginners to Experts
- 1-6 Players
- Maximum unit supply automatically adjusts to number of players. You can play solo or with friends without problems!
- A.I Computer Players supported
Beginners will like:
- 4x stronger units means you can really learn and test the powers of each unit in the game. Think of each unit you build as a hero!
- There's sufficient time at the beginning to build and gather. No need to rush
- All weapons fire 4x faster. Imagine the meat cleaving action your Ultralisk could do!!
Intermediates / Experts will like:
- Hard mode. Enough said.
- Leaderboards show the number of kills each player did and other statistics, and at the end of the game there's a "For bragging" screen that shows: Number of Players, Kills, Wave No,
and Skipped Time. Think its too easy? Then use the next wave (skip) command "-n" or "-next". Each time you do this, the remaining time of the current wave gets added to a special score "Skipped Time". Let's see which one of you can skip the most and live long enough to tell his tale!You CAN skip even the first 8:00 minutes before the 1st wave. And any extra time will be added to Skipped Time :)You can only skip if the enemy units are less than 400. So don't worry, 10 year olds online won't be able to spam "-n" and blow your PC up with 50,000 units on screen!
v3.5 is out

About the Author
Hello there! I've been working on Blizzard's map editors ever since the days of Warcraft 2. Good times. I'm not nearly as great as the popular map authors who spend stellar amounts of effort and time to deliver, but I'm probably as addicted as they are. I wish I had the time to do that stuff :(
I hope you enjoy the map. Please post any feedback, bugs, suggestions, etc... And let me know if you enjoyed playing it. It'll encourage me to do many other maps I have in mind :)
Also, Starcraft 2 is the first game where I was encouraged to submit my maps to the online community. Maps for the earlier games were only played in my LAN setup.
Cheers!
Before Commenting
Do you hate my map?
Short story short: I don't really enjoy it myself. But, it became popular, and people wanted more. So, I kept up to their expectation and allowed them to enjoy it better. If you're still going to say "mean" things without any kind of consideration nor constructive feedback, then know that I'm too kind and too old to engage in a "mean" talk war. And know that it does hurt my feelings. There, I hope that will make you feel better.
@Pinky
I'm gonna call you my favorite Russian friend.. Well, you're my only Russian friend, but it still counts :D heheh
I'm sorry if I seemed to ignore your first suggestion!!!! I didn't! Wait, did I? :O ! Wait, I don't see your suggestion on "tactical base defense", which one do you mean?
Actually looking back, I almost did everything you suggested: I added fish, made it harder, made game start earlier, improved terraining, and removed the grey blocks! lol.
Yes every game I played on Easy has managed to finish it. I guess its a bit hard for 1 player though, I haven't tried it solo yet. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I'm really glad its inspired you to make a map!! Let me know if you need help with that :D
I'm happy that you will observe this map! Because my next map is turning out to be... let's just say amazingly fun. I won't ruin the surprise here, but I can say that it won't be a base defense or a tower defense. I guess I owe you a PM on that topic eh :)
Hello there !
Not only Moringa but me too tested Sc2 Localizer. Yes, it gave me that error "someting was removed from trigger bla-bla-bla", but it didn't cause to any problem really. Info fields were filled this time, so it is strange that situation is different for me and Moringa in this case. :) But anyway i have published map at my russian server successfully and even played it.
Map became more beautiful (i like water with fishes and arch bridge between bases). And lags almost disappeared (after 27 waves they exists however, but may be because of my rather weak computer). Some words about minerals at bottom of map. Is not it better to place start base between two minerals fields? It can make life more easy (don't have to build second Command Centr to reach next heap of minarals). But i have found out that map is hard. Xenosteel did you have victory at it ever? :)
Anyway good job man. I still continue to observe the development of this map and even have had idea about creation of own "Base Defend". Do you remember my suggestion of making "tactical Base Defend" ? You declined it, so i thought that i could be that man who will make it :) ha ha ha, so thank your map for this idea.
Ok, Xenosteel, what are your plans for near future? (just chatting)
@moringa
Thanks for testing it. I have no idea what's the case with the Map Info, but the errors you get below (in the Messages window, right?) I get them every now and then on many different maps, and they generally don't do any damage to the map itself. Because they're orphan triggers: No idea what they do, but they didn't bite me yet.
Anyway, did you try to play it locally yet? Let me know if it works.
Thanks again :)
I haven't quite tested the linked item yet but a new error occurred when I attempted to add a name to the latest version.
Warning: Orphaned trigger parameter removed from Function Call 'Convert Real To Integer' (Parameter Value, 89E2C4DC, Lib: 0) Warning: Orphaned trigger parameter removed from Function Call 'Create Units Facing Point' (Parameter Value, 95EDF351, Lib: 0) Warning: Orphaned trigger parameter removed from Function Call 'Create Units Facing Point' (Parameter Value, 838125AF, Lib: 0) Warning: Invalid trigger element reference removed from Parameter Value 'Variable' (Variable, 66E81891, Lib: 0)
On a side note, would you have any idea why the Map Info tab is empty when you upload it here on sc2mapster? I'm sure that isn't the case when you make the map.
Hi, yes. I'll be testing it and post the results here.
@moringa and @Pinkyblue
After a little research, I finally found out whats the problem with uploading the map to SEA.
Its as Pinky said, the galaxy editor's localization is what's causing the problem. Apparently, SC2 galaxy editor clients have fixed number of localizations or something per region, and if the other person's editor is from another region, it'll mess things up big time. Mostly anything that has text or strings, I'm not sure really).
Luckily someone made a tool that can convert a map's localization, and it seems to work pretty well: http://www.sc2mapster.com/assets/sc2-localizer/
I wish I could try it myself, but I'm stuck here at my own region :(
Whether this is intentional from Blizzard to keep people from different regions entirely separated, or if its just a bug, we'll find out eventually...
moringa please try it if you have the chance to, and test it locally on your PC. Let me know the good news if it worked :) Sorry if I'm troubling you too much, but I would be relieved if this could solve the problem you're facing.
GOOD NEWS! I found the lag!!!!!
So far its about 2-3 less lag on my PC ! Let me see if I can tweak more then I'll release v3.5 ! YAY!
Edit: after uploading and testing online, 0 lag even at wave 40! I couldn't believe it!!
@PinkyBlue
You are very constructive and helpful! Thank you!
I sent a PM to zenx1 about the lag, and I think its a good idea I share it:
First: The reason why I did make that many spawn is because I NEVER thought my map would reach the online community! I did not account for that possibility! This is my mistake, I promise to polish my maps more carefull!
Now for the problem. I agree with the lag problem 100%, but here's the thing: People love the map as it is. I cannot make drastic changes to it, like reduce the units and change how the waves happen without studying it carefully.. What I'm doing now is to avoid drastic changes and see how to tweak the map to have better lag. I need to carefully debug and see what's the main cause of lag. Maybe I can remove the zerglings? Maybe make the spawns happen in Intervals or spawn them outside the map borders (Thanks to zenx1 for the ideas)? I'm sure I'll figure out the lag problem soon enough!
And thanks for sharing the localization problem. Since you also faced it, that means there must be a reason why its happening. I first doubted moringa's PC but now I know its more than just that. I'll try to research on this if I can.
I listened to all this verbal skirmish between Xenostel,Moringa and Zenx1, wasn't kept myself and have decided to tell to you the word!
First of all: I download few maps from sc2mapster.com every day and try to publish all them at my russian server for testing with friends. And what ? Almost all the maps have emptry info fields. So i have to input author name and little discription (else i cann't publish it, can i?). And after saving HUGE AMOUNT OF DIFFERENT ERRORS APPEAR ! The most popular are: "can't publish coz document use too many libraries" and that one Moringa has described. All the buttons in game look like "Param/Value/StringOfLettersAndNumbers" :)
I have heard this is localization problem, when you save english map in russian editor (or american version of map in EU editor etc...). But it IS NOT trouble of uploading to this site, so relax guys :)
And now about map!
Dear Xenosteel! Sadly but your map really lags! Pack of zergs + pack of player units = H U G E lags. I understand you tried to make "epic" map with great battles, but... You should consider today's conditions, the majority of computers can't handle with so many units on screen (even on LOW graphic settings).
Whether you thought of that to leave "epic" battles to Marine-arena and NexusWars and remake your map into "tactical base defend" where players defend themselves with limited amount of units...
@zenx1
I do agree. To be very frank, I didn't know how the popularity system worked and I didn't expect this to ever reach popular, nor did I intend the map for online play at all, which is why I made it adjust to small number of players and gave it AI support.
But since its popular, I'll try my best to keep the players entertained as much as I can. I AM making a new map totally designed for the online community (as I mentioned in other posts), but for now, please tolerate (if that's the right word) whats here, and do provide me with as much constructive feedback as you can. I'll be needing it for the near future :).
Congratulations! This map just shows how bad the popularity system is. I tried this one once, HUGE LAGG, everyone said it sux, but it still is popular.
I know...I shouldnt hate the game, hate the system. But seriosly the map is plain bad. The games shouldnt have made 200 units instantly + 400 units of player units....you can only expect lagg.
v 3.4 is out. I fixed the Brood Lord lag and made them have 4x stronger broodlings instead of machine gunning. But I gotta tell you, it was a real f!%!@% b1%@ to do because the links go literally like this:
Brood Lord > Brood Lord Hanger > Broodling (Escort) > Broodling Escort Weapon > Broodling escort attack effect > Broodling spawn effect unit name
Good exercise, but I'm never doing it again anytime soon !
Ok, I think I know where the issue arises. When downloaded from here, the map doesn't contain the errors I mentioned in the earlier post. However, since the Map Info of the file here seems to be empty (at least that's what I see when I download it), I can't publish it online without putting a name. I would then have to save it in order for the name to be saved (otherwise it will say: Document has unsaved changes.)
If I test the same document after adding the name, the Param/Value error occurs.
So, I'm stuck at a crossroads. I can't publish it without adding a name in the Map Info tab. Adding a name requires me to save the file. Saving the file seems to cause the Param/Value error.
@moringa
I just downloaded the map from here, I didn't find any of the bugs you mentioned :o This is really weird
Can you please try to test the map locally on your machine? You can play it 1 player with AI. I'm guessing the problems you mentioned are more likely related to your PC, probably your Operating System's regional options... Or maybe the download got corrupted on its way from here or on its way to the Battle.net servers.
Anyway please try it locally and let me know what happens.
EDIT: Oh yeah, don't publish yet. I'm making a small release now that has some slightly better terraining and slightly shortened wave times and prep times for better pacing.
EDIT 2: Ok v3.3 is up. Try it locally first
@Ryaneko Well, I guess I could look into that. Maybe I'll buff the broodlings attacks instead of machine gunning them out.
Thanks for pointing it
there is a reason noone made it through hard yet..your make is plain and simple boring. broodlords which machineguns broodlings out.. lag anyone?
thats btw the best tactic.. spam broodlords and vikings. you are invincible.
@moringa
I think the upload I made to this site (sc2mapster) got corrupted on the way, because I never ran into any of the bugs you mentioned. Let me re-upload and I'll let you know... I'm at work right now, let me get home and I'll get right to it.
And thanks so much for publishing it for me :) I'd love to hear the feedback from SEA players. So far in EU its picking up a hell lot better than I expected
Edit: Oh and, I did include text in the Map Info to the map.. Unless you mean something else? Or maybe this is further proof the upload was corrupted? hmmmm.
Hi, I've taken it down from SEA. There seems to be a bug where all the text comes out a Param/Value/StringOfLettersAndNumbers (both the choices at the start and the leaderboard). Not sure what's causing it but it's a huge turnoff for new players. I'll wait for a version that resolves it before uploading again. That way people will have the best impression at their first try and they are more likely to try it again later on.
Hi, I'll be uploading the map to the SEA Region and see if it picks up interest. I'll point them here for their comments and suggestions.
Also, I noticed that the Map Info tab is empty. Maybe you can fill it with details in the next version?
Currently I used: Name: Xenosteel's Super Defenders Author: Xenosteel Description - Basic: Base Defense Description - Extended: Build and defend against the zerg swarms. Default SC2 units and buildings, but they're 4x times stronger!
Now that the map has reached popular, I was able to test it online.... I'm disappointed in my own map a lot!
The good news, I'm making v3 very soon to fix the problems:
I'll release it any time now. I'm overly excited it reached popular but very disappointed until I can make the difficulty changes. I'll update here when I do.
