Spell Contest - Hellzone Grenade
A Remake of Piccolo's Hellzone Grenade from DBZ
This Spell was done completely through the use of the data editor, triggers were not used in any way.
Well here it is, after about 6+ hours and trying about 5 or 10 different ways to make this(starting off with heavy trigger abuse) I have finally managed to make this spell with no triggers whatsoever(even though it probably would have been 20x easier had I used them). It's amazing how the simplest of tasks in the map editor can take over an hour to figure out :)
It took a lot of hours of trial and error to get things just right. As for the mini trail, it could be done
on 2nd look, hellfire grenade is not bad at all. it looks very much like the original DBZ one, including turning into the purple magenta color. and it really doesn't take that long either.
how much work/ how difficult was it to code hellfire grenade?
for increasing the visual awesomness to possibly over 9000, what about mini trail for each "grenade" when it's moving?
let me know if u do!
i was also thinking, the very first ghost attack would be a ghost DT that starts off by swinging his weapon backwards, and then after it lands is when the rapid cascade happens. So a lil windup b4 the fury ensues.
and before this first DT attack, the high templar would have a lil voice: like a lil prayer/mantra, essentially calling upon the dead protoss souls through the khala.
1) activation prayer/(voice file) -> 2) wind up DT to start the cascade -> 3) rapid cascade of protoss units.
also if possible, i was thinking that the cascade of units was round about the target unit: if they're all centered on that unit, then it can get messy visually - it might be hard to tell apart the big ghost units. If the first unit could attack from the North, 2nd unit from the south, 3W, 4E... 5NW, 6SE, 7NE, 8SW, etc. It will become a surrounding wrath of protoss, and it will solve the potential visibility issue.
@gwho:
Auir's Vengace does sound pretty sweet, i might even make it :D
And as for the reference, i forgot to add one on the project page but had one in the forum post. I was wondering why you even asked, turns out I'm just dumb heheh
ohh, ic. interesting. i had no idea it was a reference. perhaps the judges might not know! short caption might help ;)
"coolest, not the most practical" lols
if i knew how to map, i would do something along the theme of Auir's vengeance. u know that one map where the hero is a DT, and he does one move where a giagantic 3d-watermark DT appears and does an attack, as the real DT is attacking? It would kind of be like that, where various different gigantic 3d-watermarkes (i.e. ghosts) of the dead protoss units appear in rapid succession. so say like.... a high templar channels, and there are circle effects and wind/dust blowing away from him, and then a beam of psionic energy goes directly upwards. then on the target, it's a giant ghost zlot attacks, and before it finishes, a dragoon attacks, and then an archon, and then a reaver, all very rapidly.
and there you have Auir's Vengeance . RAHHHH.
i have no idea how to code so i dont mind if u steal it in another entry.
@gemGreg
I used a behavior
I cant find out how you lifted target :O
@gwho
It's supposed to take that long, go watch the DbZ clip of the hellzone grenade, piccolo shoots energy balls around 17 creating a prison of energy balls then fires them at him.
As for making the setup faster i would have to completely rework my approach at the spell as that's the fastest autocast will go
And it wouldn't be a Hellzone grenade if the balls of energy were psi blades lol, but nice idea
(Plus the contest is to make the coolest spell not the most practical :D)
the first thought that comes to my mind is "why wait so long to hit him with regular photon shots? just shoot him x amount of times and get it overwith"
is it possible to make the photons into psionic blades?
also, if the entire process could be shortened. like half the speed of now for setup... and then all of them slicing through almost at the same time, but offset so that it's a very rapid cascade.
it's like a bunch of zealot blades appearing, and then striking. but the entire thing is conjured up.
"Auir's Vengeance" (from all the dead protoss that died when Auir got overrun)
@frakc
Thanks I overlooked self cast while working on other things

Well done sir, this is impressive. I cant even wrap my head around these effects and behaviors
it fly if to use it on yourself)
