ShadowFall : Relic War
What happens when you combine Tower Defense, Defense of the Ancients, Capture the Flag, Nexus wars, and cyberpunk? ShadowFall! This project is still in early development, I hope to make an early release in October.
- 16 unique towers, 8 Towers per corp
- 12 unique mercenaries, 6 per corp
- 17 offensive structures per corp, in 3 tiers - 34 total
The Story
The Okami Corporation and SinTec have been acquiring ancient relics for decades. Now, the only relics left belong to these two megacorps. Anticipating the coming showdown, each has hired several mercenaries to defend these last relics. And each megacorp has devoted all their resources to this struggle.
This is the story of that showdown. Choose a megacorp and a mercenary, then crush your opposition. Each megacorp has 10 Relics when the game starts. Your team must possess all 20 to win. To acquire relics, build attacking structures to train troops for your cause. The mercenaries job is to defend your megacorp’s relics from these combatants. Build, fight, survive.
Three play "modes"
The game play will be in three distinct modes, each represented by a "screen button" which will not reside in the normal command card. Pushing any of the buttons will take the players camera to that view and give control over that associated units.
- Strategic mode : standard over top camera, allowing the player to interact with (upgrade, sell, research) their towers and units as in standard TD games
- Defense mode : will switch the camera to an over the shoulder 3rd person camera of your merc. Gives control of merc specific abilities and build abilities.
- Offense mode : will switch the camera to the dedicated build area. You will be given control of a phantom builder unit (the unit will not be visible but is only needed for game building purposes) and the build menus for offense structures will be visible.
Strategic Decisions:
- Weather to spend money making your Merc Defender better or on new attacking structures
- What types of attacking troops to build (armor bonuses will be similar to Retribution TD)
- Where to defend & build defense structures - the first 4 relics are VERY hard to defend, etc.
Ghost- send me an email explaining what you are needing and time frame ect... if I have the time and it's something i can do, i may be able to help out
no, its just me, I'm actually considering canceling the whole thing. I'm probably going to make one more post on the looking for members board and then a call it
Any luck finding a data editor or is mephs back and able to work on stuff more?
Hey Veridian please don't forget about Retribution TD :), I've sent you a test version if you can publish it on US.
well things aren't progressing as fast as I would have hoped. Mephs has been super busy.
I'm actually having second thoughts about the entirety of this project unless I can find a data editor who is not busy and can put time into this project. I'm really sorry to have to say that but its the truth. I went to the recruitment forms and pretty much everyone is having the same problem. Blizzard has made the data editor WAY too complicated and their are very few people who are actually good with it. These people are either busy with real work or on other projects already.
Basically the big things left are:
1) Merc Skills 2) Merc Items 3) Randomization of relics and relic effects
really well, defensive towers and skills are being put in, hopefully will be ready for testing this week
How's it progressing?
Just did some testing of all the attacking structures (we are putting tier 1 and 2 in for v1) and they all look awesome.
Unit production is handled without queuing, so no nexus-wars style problems, each unit has 2 upgrades.
All units now have attacks, Silanda's animation is sweet and the ogre and sato have actual melee attacks
Well we still have a lot to put in, but at least there is a list:
Ghostwalker:
Mephs:
I'm shooting to have a very rough test for this weekend so we can begin balancing things for a real beta release.
Gah stop teasing me with all these nice screenshots already, lol. :P
Currently, Mephs is hard at work in the data editor getting all the attacking and defending units added. We have made a few changes to the game play after testing, mainly, you can now choose your Mercs primary and secondary attributes.
ShadowFall : Relic War
Relic Rush sounds to 'Zomg send everything at them as fast as you can click' Relic/Artifact are definately good, having the key concept of the game included in the name, is a good 'O THATS what i'm supposed to do here' concept that people can figure out before even starting the game. Relic War/Artifact War/Shadowrelic's/ect would prob be more inline with the game's concept.
I like Relic Rush.
I like ShadowFall too, also didn't realize "Fall" means to move quickly
ShadowFall: Relic Rush
i like Ghost in the Machine but you'd want to change lots of names around.
Here are soem new ideas for names, any of these strike you as cool?
Artifact Assault
Relic Rush
The Contingency
NightFall
Vestige
ShadowFall
Ghost in the Machine
Sinister Dawn
The Showdown
Probably going to do a rename of the project. Doing some guerrilla marketing on this and turns out the word "Rampage" doesn't elicit the thought of a dark, broken down future this is supposed to represent.
Gameplay of the ending phase is still a little in the air, we will need testing once we get the units in the game we are working on now.
Thanks guys
So just wondering how does the game end? When all the relics have been captured? Or is there 1 more thing to attack/defend even after teh relics have been taken?
Edit: Nvm read the fine print in your splash screen up top....Might be hard to get all 20 when you said its very hard to recover lost relics since your heros would have to go past the spawn buildings to get them. Or can your attacking units recover them after u get all 10 of the originals from them?
I'm not much of an idea person, except through expierence, so haven't had many suggestions yet (without testing).
1 thing though, there's 1 model that I don't think you used in Retribution, and I think it would be nice to have a place made for it. SHEEP :P There's also The little Diablo, either would make excellent comedy factors :P The best usage I saw of that, was the Nuclear Sheep in Roundabout Wars :P Nearly invulnerable sheep that slow walked up to enemies and just nuked them :P
