ShadowFall : Relic War
What happens when you combine Tower Defense, Defense of the Ancients, Capture the Flag, Nexus wars, and cyberpunk? ShadowFall! This project is still in early development, I hope to make an early release in October.
- 16 unique towers, 8 Towers per corp
- 12 unique mercenaries, 6 per corp
- 17 offensive structures per corp, in 3 tiers - 34 total
The Story
The Okami Corporation and SinTec have been acquiring ancient relics for decades. Now, the only relics left belong to these two megacorps. Anticipating the coming showdown, each has hired several mercenaries to defend these last relics. And each megacorp has devoted all their resources to this struggle.
This is the story of that showdown. Choose a megacorp and a mercenary, then crush your opposition. Each megacorp has 10 Relics when the game starts. Your team must possess all 20 to win. To acquire relics, build attacking structures to train troops for your cause. The mercenaries job is to defend your megacorp’s relics from these combatants. Build, fight, survive.
Three play "modes"
The game play will be in three distinct modes, each represented by a "screen button" which will not reside in the normal command card. Pushing any of the buttons will take the players camera to that view and give control over that associated units.
- Strategic mode : standard over top camera, allowing the player to interact with (upgrade, sell, research) their towers and units as in standard TD games
- Defense mode : will switch the camera to an over the shoulder 3rd person camera of your merc. Gives control of merc specific abilities and build abilities.
- Offense mode : will switch the camera to the dedicated build area. You will be given control of a phantom builder unit (the unit will not be visible but is only needed for game building purposes) and the build menus for offense structures will be visible.
Strategic Decisions:
- Weather to spend money making your Merc Defender better or on new attacking structures
- What types of attacking troops to build (armor bonuses will be similar to Retribution TD)
- Where to defend & build defense structures - the first 4 relics are VERY hard to defend, etc.
Plus you got a real programmer so no more of your noobyness :P
J/K I love you verid :D
Ash:
It will be higher. Retribution was my first SC2 map, learned a lot from it
I'm really looking forward to play this map, and hope its quality is going to be as high as ar your other projects.
I really hope its going to be published on EU servers too?
Good idea Raith. Also, we need to consider Im trying to appeal to several different audiences out there, Tower Defense, DotA, Nexus Wars, etc
I think i'd go with a 4v4 at max. You can't have more people than that in a party anyways ... and sometimes it takes ages (especially if the game isn't high on the popularity list yet) to get 8 random guys to join a game.
Maybe ... you could start out with even less players and then scale up once it gets more popular. Like .. let's say start out with a 2v2 or 3v3 and then scale up, considering some of the DotA's out there, there's usually 2-3 guys leaving each game within the first few minutes anyways, so why waiting for 10 minutes to get 8 guys into one game, just to have half the people leaving within 5 minutes ?
Good question Karallys, Im thinking either 5v5 or 4v4
So a simple question that I feel I already know the answer to...Is this gonna be a 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, or even a 5v5 map? I know if its a 5v5 it could be any of the above
Oriental guys are going to be the "advanced tech" type poeple using mainly protoss models.
SinTec are more standard stuff using terran models.
I would like to put more mythical stuff on the Okami side, but wanted to keep it to 6 mercs per side for the first release.
Unless you have an idea to swap out a mythical merc for one of the ones listed? Im totally up for anything :)
Wouldn't it be better to let SinTec have all those Computer/Android/High-Tec based Characters, and give Okami which has it's foundation in the oriental regions the mythic creatures ?
Just saying, cuz SinTec sounds tecwise a bit more advanced in my opinion, so they shouldn't rely on demons and stuff. Okami i think means wolf in Japanese which could be connected to mythic stuff :)
Im trying not to name the characters after something that already exists. We can base it off them, but add "something"
ooo how about a named Succubis? Lilith :)
Hiroshi Ishii then for the Brain
http:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiroshi_Ishii
Succubus - This vile woman has given herself over to demons. She specializes in summoning.
Cool ideas, not so sure about the Brackman one though
Im trying to have the Okami corp have a oriental feel
Condottiero - A highly trained ex-soldier. He now sells his extreme skill at killing to the highest bidder, in this case it was SinTec.
Deep Blue - A fully automated living computer. capable of planning your death in 300 different ways per second. Armed with extremely advanced energy weapons.
http:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_Blue_%28chess_computer%29
It sounds like a chess computer :)
Or Deep thought - From hitchikers guide
Or Skynet - From Terminator
Brackman - The inventor of the Android brain used by many Okami units. He is capable of many diverse nanotech abilities but is frail and does not enter combat himself.
As in Dr Brackman from supreme commander creator of the proto brain.
Wraiths - Stealth Melee - this shadowy creature drains life from other creatures to heal itself and those around it.
Another name for this could be Blight
First to provide me with some good names / descriptions for the new Mercs gets to have their ideas in the game!
