The Settlers Of Char
Lore: Fact checks needed... and maybe some more changes
After the hive mind was destroyed on Auir. The Zerg had no leadership, so the Terran wanted to settle on char for the abundant resources. Despite the dangers of the planet, without the hive mind it was manageable. The confederacy, Reynors Raiders, Terran Dominion, and various other chapters of the Terran race move from all different corners of the galaxy to settle the planet char. Every side is fighting for dominance over the planet so that they can claim the most minerals, that is why you are summoned to build and establish dominance from the other chapters.
Goals:
Settlers of Char will be a turned based game similar to the classic board game, Settlers of Catan. Everything will be converted to Starcraft terms such as using Minerals, Gas, ETC.
This is just a concept that I am still out-lining before any real work gets done on it. Also looking for anyone good with Galaxy editor to help and share the workload.
What we have:
- Project Manager - I guess that's me? I will be helping with everything I can hah.
- Image Designer
What we Need:
- Someone who can make triggers like there is no tomorrow. - Dunno what you would call that.
- Mapper - Make some ambiance in the map.
Concepts Thought Over:
Turn Sequence
Turn order of events.
- Use Knight card if you have one, or roll the dice.
- Once dice are rolled everyone collects the resources. 2a. If a 7 is rolled then everyone with more than 7 cards has to choose half of their hand to discard. 2b. The player who rolled the 7 then moves the thief onto a tile and can choose to steal from a player whos settlement is adjacent to the tile the thief was placed on top of.
- The player whos turn it is can build building or trade for a development card or choose to trade. PLAYERS CAN ONLY TRADE WITH THE PERSON WHOS TURN IT IS.
- Once the player passes the turn if this is a 5-6 player setup then everyone starting to the left of the current player can choose to build a building but not play development cards, trade for development cards, or trade in resources to the bank.
Concepts Up For Debate:
Resource Names
- Minerals = Wood
- Char Crystal = Brick
- Sheep = Sheep
- Vespene Gas = Ore
- Zergling Meat/Jorium? = Wheat
How Trading Will Work
The biggest question is how to do trading so that everyone knows what is being traded without it being cumbersome.
I want to remove the bottom unit selection screen and the ability menu and put a custom chat menu down at the bottom with cards being right above it. The cards should probably start to overlap as you start to get more and more of them. Though you can count on a player not having much more than 7 because it is getting dangerous at that point.
This leaves the ability to click on the cards in your hand and have them highlight or possible raise slightly, then there will be an offer button that will pop up if you have at least one card selected. Then once you offer something everyone will see what you are offering and will be able to make an offer for your offer. Then you can converse with each other and get a deal struck then once someone makes an offer that the person whos turn it is (the original person to offer cards for trade) likes they can choose which players offer they want to make the deal with.
This of course means there will have to be checks in place to make sure someone doesn't trade same resources, such as 1 mineral for 2 minerals. Because this is an illegal trade. So if they offer a mineral, perhaps your minerals should be grey'd out.
Possible Name Change
Thinking about changing the title to Settlers of Char. Gonna think of it for a bit but it would make for a wonderful back story for the map.
I would love to help! I'm not experienced at all with the Galaxy editor, so that's to bad.
Nice project! :D

It is still going, I was forced to give up leadership at the moment because my motherboard is dead and ASUS is being a pain when it comes to getting a replacement. We have one person working on triggers and stuff in their free time at the moment, waiting on art. If you want in I will message you my Skype details and we can get you two working together hopefully.
Hello,
I see you're in need of an expert triggerer with no life, which is just what I am. Unfortunately, I also see that the project hasn't been updated in a few weeks.
I sincerely hope this project hasn't been abandoned because I'd really love to be apart of such a project. As soon as you let me know if you're interested in recruiting me, I'll provide more info about me and my qualifications/experience.

You are correct, and OneTwoSC has been wonderful with their custom dialogs already hah. I have a bottom and a right menu already semi done.
Time is eluding me the past week but I got some real progress before then. Last thing I was working on was making the red numbers not touch on the board.
I'm not sure if a turn based board game idea will translate to a success on battlenet. This project sounds like it will require a ton of trigger work to code. : ) I hope you plan on paying the coder. If not OneTwoSC has some pretty decent online tutorials dealing with creating custom dialogues. I am assuming this game will be dialog based with imported graphics used as buttons etc. If this is the case map design would be secondary because it would only serve as a artistic background.
Did start a Forum settlersofchar.info. Will be messing with the theme a little more this weekend.
