This is the best mechanism i have seen as of yet, and best of all, it can be implemented. Just one thing id like to point out though, should the player accidentally zoom out on a mouse wheel, even slightly, the camera resets to strategic mode (although it still follows the character) and does not reat at all well to an attempt at zooming in. Im not a good coder so i have no idea how to fix it, just wanted to put it out there :)
Also, thx for posting this, alot of ispiration.

The "dance slide" is caused because I have used the "stand left/right" aka "turn" animation as no "strafe" animation currently exists.
The strafe speed can be lowered to better create the effect, but it impacts heavily in terms of controlling the unit. Had to sacrifice one and chose to sacrifice the effect for better control.
Well I will say at the very least the moment's pretty smooth specially since you're using teleports. Though there are issues with involving the camera, bit noticably the unit dance slides when you're trying to move left or right while holding down the camera. Rest of the other camera issues can be solved through some web tutorials.
