SC1 - Jacobs Installation - Remake
Jacobs Installation
A remake of the 4th mission from the StarCraft 1 Terran campaign. Check my profile for another remade map.
How to play it
Download the file anywhere and then drag it onto your SC2 shortcut. If you insist on doing it the hard way (opening in editor and testing) then make sure you're testing in normal difficulty.
Recap
The planet is being invaded by Zerg and Mengsk sends you into some secret Confederate base to take advantage of the chaos and steal some stuff from their computers.
Features:
- more primary and bonus objectives
- it's not on battle.net because it's too big, and because it's a singleplayer map, and because the custom map system apparently sucks
- no more endless, empty corridors and rooms - the map is smaller but there is very little "dead space"
- the flow of the original map is retained, so you still visit camera rooms, zerg cells, a garage etc.
- teleportation pads reworked to hopefully make them not so annoying (in exchange, the effect may cause epilepsy)
- sounds and music from the original mission
- dancing night elf
Notes from the author
- only normal difficulty is implemented
- the 3D portraits in the briefing might look different, it's unavoidable (confirmed by blizzard :P)
- please report any bugs you find
- the crappy lip sync in NOT a bug, I have to use existing lip animations and it's hard to find ones that fit (especially for Mengsk)
- I'm not very good at writing dialogue :)
- the map was part of Starcraft Reborn, a mod to remake Starcraft 1, but I got frustrated by the slow pace, authors dropping out and leaving maps half finished and the general lack of interest (almost nobody signed up when we opened up recruitment)
I haven't played the map yet, but it does look pretty nice. I do suggest you look into making .SC2Mod files, as making one would make the campaign MUCH easier to do. Also, just a little suggestion, I think smaller firebats would feel more SC1-ish
I was just browsing through the campaign maps and I noticed this one on top. I then remembered that I played this map a while ago, hence the comment below. This map became so good, I want to congratulate you on this achievement.
Pros
Cons
Last but not least I just want to say that I'm sorry to hear the Starcraft Reborn project was abandoned. I was looking forward to seeing the whole Starcraft I campaign as polished as this one, what a great remake. I'd say this is better than the original. Good job!
Very nicely done, if just there were more people making singleplayer maps :(
Whoa, I love how you redid the briefing room!
You're super awesome.
Aw man, that was awesome! I just made an account to tell you what a good job you did with that mission. I hope you continue to remake these old SC missions, wonderful job.
@Wunterwaffen, go into your graphics options and switch to 2D portraits, you'll see the proper portraits.
And I'm 100% certain that it isn't Nova. That's a perfect copy of a world of warcraft female night, doing the /dance emote :P Can't wait to see what easter eggs Blizzard put in the full game!
Awesome, dude! I was shocked when I saw that the original transmission audio was in there! The whole thing was fantastic! The only thing I would've changed (and this is really no big deal at all) is made Mengsk's portrait an SCV instead of a Battlecruiser, but it doesn't really matter. Oh, and the dancing night elf in my opinion is actually Nova from Starcraft Ghost, because around her it says "super nova". Anyway, great job and I hope to see more soon. If you need any sound files let me know and I can upload them. Adun Toridas!
tell me how i can put the original voices of sc1 in the data of sc2 mm when i do this the voices not apear for me please help me
Wow I'm impressed! Having a look at the other remakes of Starcraft I maps this one is by far the best yet. However it didn't really feel like the installation from the original map, but I think that's mainly cause of the different ground texture (you could change that) and the fact there are no firebats in it (could be fixed after release). I also missed the pop-up turrets, or are they in it and did I just walk past them? The hallways were also a bit narrow compared to the original.
I loved the doodads, some rooms were a bit overdone though, but the 'factory' with some 'alive' units was really cool. Also the hallway leading to the computer was beautifully done, the orange substance really gave the feeling of some weird things going on here.
The difficulty is about right, as I never lost a single unit in the original map, here I lost 1 or 2 I think, good job on that. One thing to notice is the lack of the stimpack ability, the original map had it researched. I did notice the 3/3 weapon/armor upgrades, those are good.
Last thing would be the ending, which I loved how you add the 'escape!' objective making it a bit more intense as the last batch of enemies was quite a challenge. I'd like to see a short cutscene on the end, loading up the survivors in 2 dropships and flying off, that would make it that much cooler :)
I hope this helps you and I'd love to see more of your work, keep it up!
Cool, I'll try it out! If the dialogue from the game isn't in there, I'll upload it to the assets section so you can use it.
@ Maul2 press the space bar.
@ Tolkfan fan-fucking-tastic
Good job, you made the SCV:s neutral unlike the civilians in the original which always got shot down as a result (that was a very annoying feature in the original). Remembered several parts from the original although i didn't notice any defence turrets that popoed out of the ground. It is alot shorter than the original mission and alot easier. Think you should remove the regeneration and balance from there, together with the 3/3 upgrades the enemy units just don't have a chance.
Can you please add an option to skip the intro? Raynor died fairly quickly so I had to restart.
