Forever and a day in the making, here's my take on the legendary UED campaign from Starcraft: Brood War. Nostalgic, faithful to the original, surprisingly fresh at the same time and most of all fun to play are the things I was going for when creating it.
Thanks to a bunch of people including but not necessarily limited to Telenil, christdaugherty, Superfield, Jimm3110, Ultraling, Maverck, GnaReffotsirk for their feedback and/or other (direct or indirect) contributions to this little project. Also thanks to my brother for all the playtesting I made him do, and thanks to all you people for the feedback/support and/or just general interest in the project. Much fun was had making the campaign (among other things), I hope you'll have at least as much fun playing.
Features
- all 8+1 original missions
- original SC1 units and structures with original stats, including custom models
- original SC1 Terran soundtrack
- all the dialogue, voice acting & other miscellaneous text from the original campaign, and more
- classic UED unit decals
- two difficulty levels (maps tested exclusively on Stukov (harder) difficulty, so you can consider it the "default" difficulty)
"Artistic License"
(some notable differences from the original campaign)
- two difficulty levels - with a somewhat more aggressive AI than in the original, in order to provide some challenge to the average player
- all kinds of cinematic/cosmetic flavor
- Duran has the snipe ability because why not

How to play
- extract the mod file (SC1BWmod) to your "Mods" folder in your Starcraft 2 install directory (NOT the folder under "My Documents")
- extract the map pack to the "Maps" folder in your Starcraft 2 install directory (create the folder if it doesn't exist)
- extract the Campaign Launcher & setup to the same "Maps" folder (not the campaign folder)
Campaign Launcher installation:
- launch the Starcraft 2 editor
- open the setup map named SCMRsetup in your Maps folder and click the "test document" button on the top right (or press ctrl+F9)
- wait until the launcher loads and you're at the title screen, then save the game and exit the map (press esc or F10 to open the game menu)
- find the save file (named "Starcraft - Mass Recall" by default) in (your home/documents folder)/Starcraft II/Saves/VersusAI
- copy or move the save file to the saves folder under your account folder (your home/documents folder)/Starcraft II/Accounts/.../.../Saves/Multiplayer (for example; any of the save folders will do)
- Done! You can now log into the appropriate account and load the save from the load game-screen. You can use this save to play each episode.
more info:
- You can copy the save file to whatever accounts you want. For example, if you want to play offline, copy it to your guest account folder.
- If you're unsure of the right folders or can't find the Starcraft II documents folder, log into an account of your choice in SC2, go to the load game-screen, click on a save and click the "show in folder"-button. It will take you to the appropriate saves folder.

@Jones313, noo the line isnt in there, i played the map recently and its missing otherwise i wouldnt have posted about it if it was there, and my last comment i posted on here is a link to a youtube video of a guy playing sort of a speed run on that map in the OG brood war Startcraft, i left it there so you can check it out and see all the dialogue thats in there :O including the "will need Duran to open this door" which yes its always said in the Original, trust me i played it a million times before SC2 came out, again the vid will show you all the lines that are said in there, its not that long either
DingoDyno69:
That DuGalle's disruptor line is in there, I believe? There are reasons those other particular lines aren't used, reasons which do involve laziness on my part. I'm not sure you'll always necessarily hear that "need Duran to open door" comment in the original, either. I'll take another look at the dialogue sometime. By the way, did you notice the whole "requesting immediate backup" part wasn't in the original? :p (the sound assets were there, not used in the map)
I wasn't exactly trying to recreate the whole Brood War intro, basically just the part that was reasonably easy to include. The intro was kind of an afterthought - it's kind of half-assed I guess, but I decided not to spend a ton of time on it, just wanted to add something. I cut it just before the music starts - it was either that or having it play out all the way to the end.
Garrthos:
Oh geez. :] Well you know, I agree with you - it's pretty good! If we're talking about this particular campaign, I certainly took my time with it. I'm glad if it shows. That's definitely not to say I'm done with it, though.
We'll probably be updating the campaigns well into HotS, so if you're looking to replay any of this later on, stay tuned.
Just finished the campaign on hard, and I had to come post here.
This is fantastic. The feel is there, the difficulty is ramped up enough to challenge the fluid SC2 engine, and it's obvious how much effort was put into everything from the terrain to the cutscenes.
Blizzard hasn't done the independent map making scene any favors, especially in terms of publicity, and this is honestly the first campaign, custom map, or remake that I would ever play again. This is some seriously high quality work, and I'm definitely excited to see how the final campaign turns out. Also, hopefully HotS and LotV will give this team some opportunities and some recognition, because more people should know about this project.
ohh yeah also in the beginning cinematic where Dugalle shows Alexi the zerg attacking a colony and he says good good i know i can count on you: you guys left out: BATTLECRUISER CAPTAIN [a symphony of Toreador starts] Admiral, the colony's defenses will be overrun in a matter of minutes, should we intervene?: ADMIRAL DUGALLE: Take us into orbit, Mr. Malsteen, we've seen enough: hopefully in the next patch you guys release those lines will be added in there.
hey guys in the mission Patriots blood, i found some dialogue you guys forgot to put in from the orginal, its right after the marine says: what the hell? how did Zerg get in here, Captain we may have a huge infestation problem: after that DuGalle is supposed to say: This proves that Duran is working with the Zerg, Captain dont let a single Zerg stand in your way we need this Disurptor now more then ever: also at the start of the mission when the Marine says were in this rooms clear, about a second later he yells :Medic!!: also when you reach Alexis front door, the marine is supposed to say: will need Duran to open this door: idk if anyone else on here has pointed that out, i would greatly appreciate it if you can add those lines in as that will make it exactly to the original dialogue wise.
Great like the new interface hope to see episode 6 soon :)
A bunch of updates are out, check Episode 1 project page for more info.
@Frankiealaplaaja: Go
Thanks for this. Most of this should be fixed in SC1BWmod 4.4. Note that SC1mod (episodes 1-3) won't be updated - the maps will be updated to use SC1BWmod instead.
Hey, great stuff! This all negates the use of the old crap!
I discovered this just before patch 1.5 was implemented, so I didn't see much of your work without it, but as to your request for a bug report, I'll just have to guess...
1) Just like the medic healing sound, the protoss shield battery has the same problem, as well as the graphic effect of shield recharge.
2) The zerg queen doesn't infest Terran Command Centres
3) Like the siege tank, the Dragoon has no firing sound
4) Fenix has no attack graphics
5) When a flying Command Centre lands, it does'nt change into a standard one (struts remain retracted and the building floats just above the ground) the other terran structures do this properly.
Kind regards,
Patch 1.5 has caused some - dare I say terrible, terrible damage to the project. We're working to resolve these issues, so sit tight - updates are coming. That includes a new way to load up the maps. Also, this:
We're in the process of fixing things - in the meantime, feel free to point out any bugs you might encounter, it'd be much appreciated. I'm specifically interested in bugs in the SC1BWmod (episodes 4 & 5) as all the earlier campaigns will be updated to support it. Of course, any map-specific bug reports across all campaigns are also appreciated (generally speaking, things not related to unit behavior/unit data). Known issues at the moment (mostly looked at Terran so far):
* various unit attacks have somehow lost their visual effects (such as Siege Tank, some of these are solved)
* Machine Shop has weird upgrades (solved)
* Medic healing noise doesn't stop, ever (solved)
* Defensive Matrix, possibly other Science Vessel abilities don't work (solved)
* briefing text writeout is messed up
Thanks.
Mod v4.3 is out, with a bunch of Terran and Protoss-related fixes/changes. A beta-ish version of the mod which didn't include all the changes was up for a day or two by mistake, so if you got that you might want to get this instead.
Telenil also updated The Stand while he was at it, so check it out.
Ghtshrine:
Oh man... yeah, especially Augustgrad took a while, and I'm still not 100% happy with it. I'm hoping the HotS editor adds a whole bunch of new models/textures to play around with. Glad you found it immersive.
You know, just doing my part for the community that is Starcraft... while waiting for a similar job in California which I'm sure will be offered to me any day now! Thanks for the support.
Psycho:
I talked about the non-skippable cutscenes somewhere in the TL thread - long story short, they're not a very high priority for me personally. The FPS (TPS) levels... well, you just might get your wish!
Trpimir:
Yeah... it's not "hard" to do, somewhat time-consuming maybe. As someone pointed out in a thread I'd rather not link, the (english) SC1 responses might bother someone who's otherwise playing in another language.
Well that's not the main reason anyway, I don't know why the SC2 voices (or most of them) never bothered me personally - they're decent enough and kinda similar to the SC1 ones I guess. Though I have to say the SC2 SCV is starting to piss me off.
But never say never, right? In a perfect world we would have a mod with a whole bunch of options for the player to choose from. We'll have to see if that becomes a realistic possibility at some point.
While I absolutely adore these remakes, I have but one complaint. I really like the original voices (from sc1) for the terran units, and I bet many others do, so what I'd like to see in future updates are sc1 voices of the marines, scvs, ghosts etc. I hope that is not so hard to do and that you will find a little time for it.
Yes Jone's mods are awesome. The only thing I didnt like about the Jones campaigns is the un-skippable cutscenes and the FPS levels on the first 2 campaigns :(
Just beat mission 5 but would like to say jones you have done a amazing job this is by far my favorite of the remade campaigns. I love the work put into the cities like korhal I went straight through the front door of the first mission just because I enjoyed the look of the city so much wanted to wander around it. Korhal was awesome fighting through a giant city that felt like you were fighting through a giant city. I have enjoyed the intros as well. So I have not beat it yet I just wanted to post your work has been amazing.
I love the extras you have done probably why I like it more then the others All the extras are great additions to the game. Really making it a enjoyable experience. Out of all 5 of the campaigns the ones you work on I have enjoyed the most. I think 3 I disliked the most any ways. Amazing work! Hope it is you who does the finale campaign. (Though it would be awesome to see all of them done by you ":D)
@MegaPsycho: Go
Haha, thanks. You're not the only one, apparently. :p Unless you're somehow not familiar with , you know, of course, that like most things in this remake, it's not very original or anything. But yeah, I like to think that I know what's cool and what's not (for instance, I know that my username is dumb as hell).
It occurred to me when making that intro that the tank driver in BW happens to do his own Ride of the Valkyries as one of his "annoyed" responses, so naturally I had to add that. It's the little things! As for the Mutalisk count, I'm fairly sure I copied the amount from the original map, I might've sort of split them into smaller groups initially.
Too bad you played the mission just before our next mod update, which does some cosmetic stuff to the Valk rockets - adds noises and explosions, that kind of thing.
OMG The intro to chapter 5's mission 6 was just awesome, the music and timing were great, and nice timing/touch with the siege tank line <3 Only complaint about it was in the original there were a lot more mutalisks, I think about 30 or so, so in terms of Air-to-Air destruction seemed a bit wimpy.
But seriously I came back to post again just because I loved that intro :D
@MegaPsycho: Go
That'll change soon enough.
Loving the Stukov portrait, but Duran is a middle-aged white guy? :(
