First of all, huge thanks to Ultraling and Maverck for having done most of the work and making this campaign possible. Both of them were awesome about letting me use their stuff to put this thing together. These are originally Ultraling's maps, found here in sc2mapster. I picked them up a long time ago and slowly worked on them, editing terrain, adding all kinds of flavor here and there, including Maverck's Brood War mod, and this is the result.
Features
- all 10 original missions + the tutorial
- original SC1 units and structures with original stats, including custom models
- original SC1 Terran soundtrack
- all the dialogue, voice acting & other miscellaneous text from the original campaign
- classic unit decals, such as Alpha Squadron, Sons of Korhal etc.
"Artistic License"
(some notable differences from the original campaign)
- Medics - to balance out the units Brood War style, and to provide more options to the player
- extra "hero" abilities: Kerrigan has the snipe ability, Raynor can replenish Spider Mines
- Mission 4 "The Jacobs Installation" - third person mode (optional)
- two difficulty levels - with a somewhat more aggressive AI than in the original, in order to provide some challenge to the average player

How to play
- extract the mod file (SC1BWmod) to your "Mods" folder in your Starcraft 2 install directory (NOT the folder under "My Documents")
- extract the map pack to the "Maps" folder in your Starcraft 2 install directory (create the folder if it doesn't exist)
- extract the Campaign Launcher & setup to the same "Maps" folder (not the campaign folder)
Campaign Launcher installation:
- launch the Starcraft 2 editor
- open the setup map named SCMRsetup in your Maps folder and click the "test document" button on the top right (or press ctrl+F9)
- wait until the launcher loads and you're at the title screen, then save the game and exit the map (press esc or F10 to open the game menu)
- find the save file (named "Starcraft - Mass Recall" by default) in (your home/documents folder)/Starcraft II/Saves/VersusAI
- copy or move the save file to the saves folder under your account folder (your home/documents folder)/Starcraft II/Accounts/.../.../Saves/Multiplayer (for example; any of the save folders will do)
- Done! You can now log into the appropriate account and load the save from the load game-screen. You can use this save to play each episode.
more info:
- You can copy the save file to whatever accounts you want. For example, if you want to play offline, copy it to your guest account folder.
- If you're unsure of the right folders or can't find the Starcraft II documents folder, log into an account of your choice in SC2, go to the load game-screen, click on a save and click the "show in folder"-button. It will take you to the appropriate saves folder.

varhansethe2nd: I had the same problem (which I haven't seen for years). Download with firefox was impossible. In the end I used wget which worked flawlessly.
Sorry but i cant get this to work at all... please someone help me. I've downloaded everything and tried to follow the steps of where they go but i cant get it to work. I've opened the starcraft folder and put the SC1mod into the mods folder and put Rebel yell in the maps folder but everytime i open the rebel yell it takes me straight to the normal starcraft load screen... \
Completed missions 1 to 6 .. all working fine.
BUT, when Mission 7 loaded (The Trump Card), Unlike all the other maps/missions there's no mission briefing.. the game(mission) just starts.
There are no Objectives giving and I have no idea what to do :D ..
There are no waves of enemies coming to my base.. I dont know if they should attack .. but they do defend their bases..
I see a "Psi Emitter" and a SCV next to it .. so I guess I gotta carry it to the green circle thingy.. will try ..
Is this mission like that for you all ? or it's just a problem on my side ?
P.S .. I love this campaign, its freakin hard which is fun XD
Do these campaigns include broodwar? And if not are you planning on doing the broodwar campaigns? I wont ask about the toss campaign as i know that's been asked before, so i'll keep this to broodwar :P
Ahh, I see you did actually read the AI scripts. You actualy tripled the number of units in every attack wave O.o Looking at the script for mission 3 I can guess the original number of units Blizzard intented in each attack and confirm by looking at the SC1 script xD. It's like brutal mode.
Download will not finish
Hello, I tried to download rebel yell and it keeps stopping at like 4 megabytes. ive downloaded it liek 10 times and every time it stops before it gets to a certain amount then it says its Complete. but its not done and the archive is always broken
anyone else having this problem?
@Jones313
In fact, I've find the solution just after the post. :) Since you seem to be interested in MAC issues, I'll try to give you my feedback about it. ;)
So, here is the key for MAC users: you have to put the files (Maps and Mods folders) in your applications' directory (path: HD > Applications > Starcraft II) and not in your library ("incorrect" path: HD > Users > "Home" > Library > Support Application > Blizzard > Starcraft II). I made the mistake because this folder actually receive the classical saves, replays, etc.
By the way, I have read some posts about how to run it on a MAC. It's very easy! You don't even require Mapcraft. The easiest way is to "right-click" on the map file, then select "Open with" and select the Starcraft II application (instead of Starcraft II Editor).
I hope that could help some of you. Have fun!
P.S. : Sorry if there are some mistakes in the names in the paths (such as "Support Applications"); I'm French and I've just translated the French words... ;)
@Zamoonda: Go
Mission six wasn't changed by Jones to be on the ground. It was always on the ground. If you look at the terrain on the map in SC1 it took place on the surface of Mar Sara. As far as Mission 9. I believe in the story anyway that the battling took place on the platform but Kerrigan herself was on the surface of Tarsonis. Don't quote me on it, I'm not sure xD
And yeah. I don't know why go as far as making things more SC1-ish as to make flying animations worse but then not making the AI the same. It's rediculously hard. If you did want it to be exact. Could just look up SCAIEdit and open up the AI files for each enemy base in each mission. That was my plan for when I was about to make a SC1 mod. You beat me to it though O.o
Yes but as a matter of a fact when i was 6 years old i could win the campaign. I did'nt play Battle.net to get that kind of knowledge. Now i can't. So it IS incredibly hard.
2. Oh well, but the thing is, it bugs the Command Center. You can perhaps disable it on the Command Center, or well, you can do whatever you want. But I think that it destroys the animation of the Command CenteR (turning to orbital & general movement bugging out).
7. Oh no no, I wasn't referring to htat. Now that I looked I was apparently just ignorant of it; I thought that the minimap was more textured. I think it's because that there are very few terrain work (not the texture! It's amazing!) in the maps, and mianly made of objects and textures; which is amazing, truly! It's a simple comment.
8. Oh well, I can wait. :P - I'm now stuck on Mission 9 though.
11. Really? Oh. I think it's because of custom units synching; Nomad II, Raynor and all those have no animation when they talk (because it's the sc1 talk). I believe that is why none of the animations ever work; because you attach a foreign file or something. But still, if when you're done you could work on it as a side-project, it would be an amazing addition, truly.
16. True, but you did edit the third Terran mission to be on the ground. It was just a comment; I cannot imagine you redoing the map. I don't really know why I even wrote it. Not much you can do about it, I think. Unless the terrainer has already finished terraining the maps, which the only thing left is the code. Though I actually feel that it's the opposite; terraining really is hard, and this terrain is blizzlike, my god.
Thank you for your speedy response, Jones! I'll continue in the Overmind thread when I reach the Zerg mission, or add here a new post if I find anything on the nineth and tenth.
Though, I think you don't really need to give them an estimation; more of a status report. Say, how many maps are done, and is the coding anywhere near complete etc. Basic stuff would give people a general idea of how much progress in. They can't know your work schedule; on how much work etc, so they can't figure out how long will it take. But they can know. "Oh awesome! (It's almost / halfway / just started to be) completed.
JoeyRAM:
I assume your map files are in the right folder. In fact I'd also like to know if this is indeed a Mac-specific issue.
Ioion:
Practice makes perfect! We're planning on adding a difficulty level or two.
Probocis:
The mod file contains all the unit data (unit stats, models, etc) as well as most of the sounds, music, images, all that. The map pack is the actual campaign. Come to think of it, "package" sounds like something else. Fixed, heh.
Zamoonda:
Oh wow. That's quite a list, thanks for taking the time to do that. I'm aware of most of the issues and other things you described. Hope you don't mind if I don't address all of that here, but let me answer some of those things:
2. This is intentional, MavercK did it to make flying buildings feel more SC1-esque.
7. Minimap? Do you mean the terrain in general? I guess the space platform missions could use a little something, but overall I'm pretty satisfied with the terrain, I think Johnny(thewolf) did an amazing job retexturing it (thanks Johnny!). Too much detail also tends to get in the way of gameplay.
8. I'm not the right person to comment on that. :]
11. You'd think it would be easy, but it's actually a little more complicated and time-consuming than it sounds. Poor support in the editor for that kind of thing.
16. The original mission actually took place on a space platform called New Gettysburg.
DonEtalon & FreddieMercury:
You're welcome! As for the next release, I'm afraid I'll have to go Blizzard on you.
Thanks for those great campaigns ! When the third campaign will be released ?
Just wanted to thank the creators for these campaigns.. thanks!
At the current moment I'm on Mission 5. I will update this post as I progress.
1. At .. one of the missions, hrnngh. I think it's either 3 or 4, the cursor completely disappears. I had to use the Windows button to see my cursor so I can click the Continue Campaign button.
2. When you lift off buildings, they fail to turn around and rotate when they fly around.
3. When you fly directly downwards / a bit to the right / left, the Command Centers switches to a Planetary Fortress / Orbital Command (display-wise) every time you move. When it doesn't happen, it (appears) that your Orbital Command has returned to a regular Command Center.
4. Imo, you should have made something like a Tech Lab that appears to the right of the Command Center with the Scanner. Would've been far more SC1-ish. :P
5. Are cinematics integrated into the Campaign? If not, I highly recommend you do so, or is it too large? Not sure. But I had this great idea; how about you cut it before Kerrigan says "We need immediate evac," and simply load up the Kerrigan's Fall cinematic from SC2? Would be kickass.
6. Overall AMAZING WORK, SWEET GOD. Please, continue your work. I would even donate for you to continue your amazing work; though that's as a last resort, I'm sure you're currently very motivated.
7. The minimap though. It appears kind of .. untextured. How to call it. It looks rather empty; is that normal and I'm just blind, or something simply doens't load up for me? There's like .. I see a regular ramp with nothing even remotely descriptive in it. It looks very undetailed for me.
8. By the way, do you have an estimation on the Protoss Campaign? I know, I know, I only now started the Terran Campaign. But I'm -dying- to see it, despite I've played SC1 campaign a thousand time; I've played SC1 for ages, up until SC2 now came out!
9. In Mission Six, or perhaps any mission, if you wait too long in the Briefing Room, until the sound disappears, then there will be no music in the map.
10. The Restart button doesn't have a "Are you sure..." etc safety message. Not the first time I accidentally hit restart instead of load.
11. When there are images of people speaking (ex. briefing room, talking during ingame chat) it appears that the images do not move. Well, they do move, but they do not "speak." Surely this is easily done? There's no need to synch it, such a thing if even possible should be done at final stages. But at least give them the "talk" animation. :)
12. It appears that the animation of conversion from Command Center to Planetary Fortress does not show up. The Command Center's animation appears to be working (the yellow lights glowing greater and lower, steam from the bottom, etc) but the actual conversion doesn't appear to be doing so.
13. The Control Tower for the Starport in Mission .. 8, I believe, where you have to land your buildings and terminate Delta Squadron and .. soemthing-else Squadron. It does not work with the Starport, for an inexplicable reason.
14. Delta Squadron's Physics Lab at the top-right of Mission 8 (same mission as above) is undestroyable by Duke or by Siege Tanks (and perhaps more units). Keeps giving the error "must target ground units."
15. In the mission New Gettysburg, when Kerrigan dies, instead of Kerrigan's portrait appearing, it is the female machine one's.
16. In the nineth mission, the terrain was incorrectly made. It had occurred upon the surface of Tarsonis, and not on an orbital platform. This was seen in the Fall of Kerrigan cinematic. It's a shame; I'm certain you probably won't remake the map now. But hey, at least you did the third (or was it 2nd?) mission right. :P
17. More to come! (Hopefully only thanks)
what's the difference between "Map package" and "Mod file"? I saw different changelogs.
There's a bug in Episode 8 where the Control Tower for Starport does'nt work. And i think you should make 2 kinds of mod packages so that the missions is'nt so hard! Seriously! EDIT: You should ALSO make ALL units sound original.
Hi all !
First of all, congrats for all of this! You've done an amazing job! ;) It's so fun to play to SC1 again.
However, I have some difficulties running it on a Mac: when I finish a mission, I can't reach the next one through the button, and I always have to quit SC, and launch the next one from the beginning. It's a little annoying... There is a error message telling that the map can't be open. That's exactly the same thing with saves, and it's much more annoying in this case since missions are hard to finish in a single try (I'm a currently playing the last Terran's mission).
Does someone succeed using saves on a Mac?
Thanks for the help, and have fun! ;)
FuchsiaTude:
Fallout music: What, we would never do such a thing... but seriously, well that's your opinion, I think it fits perfectly! Galactic crisis, air raid siren... also, the part of the track when the final briefing ends, oh my God that's perfect. Heh.
map scale: Basically the layout was done by converting the original SC1 maps using the Blizzard Legacy Converter and stretching the map edges a little bit (I added a little extra room in some maps). Some of the maps are a little cramped but I don't think it's that bad. At least there's not much "dead space" in the maps. Blocking the expo in mission 8 was obviously a terrible mistake and will be taken care of.
map bounds: Yeesh, that is kinda bad. It appears that the borders start to show in higher resolutions, so in my case, they don't really show (same with cutscenes). So basically, I need a new monitor (and a new computer while I'm at it). The borders shouldn't be a problem to fix though.
Hybrinoid:
About the music: Huh. That IS weird. Mod: the mod is slightly outdated, yeah. It'll stay that way for a while at least.
Kamikaziekid:
That's because you don't have the mod file or it's not working. See the troubleshooting page.
-Thanks for the feedback, everyone! We're working on smoothing out and fixing as many things as we can. Well, Ultraling is, I'm just chillin' at the moment. =P The third person shooter map was meant to just add a little variety, so don't expect too much out of it. There are better shooter maps out there for sure, and frankly, trying to smooth this one out would take an unreasonable amount of time for the 10 minutes of gameplay it provides. We might add the normal RTS view as an option.
Hi, im having some problems playing the first few missions:
on the first mission when you have to find jim he's invisible, and all buildings have production options for muaraders and reapers as well as marines, but not firebats or medics, im not sure if thats cause the recient patch or not. also on mission 4 the 3rd person shooter mode map jim doesnt appear and i cant move around and there is not any firebats or marines following me. also on the mission breifings the custom people (raynor) (kerregain) (duke) (mengsk) their portraits doont show up please help :(
2nd: When I kill or create a unit i lose
