Original Poker Defense
The large update has now been published!
Poker Defence is a map that was very popular in SC1. I have remade it for SC2!
The idea is you get a poker hand and the better the cards are, the better the units you get. To improve the odds of getting better hands, cards 2-6 are not created and you may also swap each card out if you choose. Race based upgrades are used to increase the strength of your army and should be used whenever possible. Buy damage upgrades and unit upgrades from minerals gained based off your hand. Buy range and speed upgrades with the vespane gas received after boss rounds.
There are 50 waves including armoured, shielded, fast, mass and boss waves.

I wonder if it is possible to implement some sort of betting? Or combining 2 already upgraded identical units. (I.e. Combining 2 Straight Upgrades into 1 single better one..)
As for bugs Ive seen it give the wrong units, for better and for worse. Saw a friend get a Straight Flush and it gave him just a fush. I also have gotten a High Card and it has given me a Straight/4OaK. I havent seen anyone bug a life out of the holding area yet.
I have some strange findings as well. It seems as though a Pair with the ace bonus nets you more DPS than a 3 of a kind with no ace bonus, A 3 of a kind with ace bonus nets you more than a 4 of a kind with no ace bonus. Seems somewhat imba if you ask me, wthe numbers indicate you should always take a hand with ace bonus even if it is 3-4 hands lower than what you could get without it.

@Blockroth I think EU will have to wait a little bit. I dont want to just start handing out the map and have a ton of clones again. Either i find a trusted person who will work with me and has an EU copy of i will have to get one myself.
Hi, Just wonder if this is on the European server too? At least I can't find this version... only some fakes I think. If this isn't on the European server then can someone send me the map so I can play with my brother and his friends through battle.net
There is a bug where as the map starts, a life (infested terran) can spawn outside the containment area at the top, letting you move it around where the waves patrol. This life cannot be taken away from you. When this bug occurs you cannot lose the game, you will remain at one food even if a wave should have eliminated you.
I saw this occur in the left position, and the center position. Have not seen it occur for the right position.
-Side note: It would be nice to have an option to stay in the game to observe once you lose. Kind of annoying that the only option is to go to the score screen, and that it locks your camera until you click it.
-More notes: High Card - Upgraded (Ace Bonus)'s ability: Ultrasonic Pulse is an area of effect ability, but when you click on it or use the hot-key, your mouse cursor only becomes a single target crosshair and does not show the potential area.
Three of a Kind - Upgraded (Ace Bonus) has a stimpack ability, but it is not able to be used.
If you get to wave 50 and are not able to kill the last boss, the game ends in defeat, even if you have all 10 lives remaining (the boss should only remove 5)
Ah man, no more using the other players flying units when they disconnect!
An update is coming very soon which fixes those bugs and more. Also more balancing was done to make it slightly easier.

Got to lvl 50 just fine looks like i was able to kill the boss until i fungal growthed him and he wandered into the exit... any way to fix that
I just had the same problem as Nightkyss. I had a Straight Flush (Royal Flush) and it also gave me the Flush with ace bonus. Just reporting that it wasn't a one time fluke type thing.
I was just in a game of your latest release and got a Straight flush ace high (royal flush) ..and it gave me the the flush with ace bonus (2 mutas, 1 infestor) .. assuming you were already aware.. any eta on a fix?

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of communication. I am working on this map as well as another project which i will be releasing in the comming weeks. I'd say an updated version of this in under 3 weeks. I will be using some compaign units and im trying out some new features which add depth to the game. Ill post when i can say more. Ya i've seen the guys that post the broken version and i think its kind of funny. Dont fret you will be able to play this soon!

Are we going to see this updated with the release of the game. All of the new releases of this game has units that don't target at all and fail. Bring this back I miss it so much.
crusader im with ya its def my favorite custom map to play and its greatly missed id edit it myself and publish it but im not that good with that stuff.
I am with silv3rINC. Bring it back for the 2nd Beta Phase. I am lost without it.
hey spores i really love poker d but i cant find it now that the second beta phase has started... can you re list it? and also are you going to make anymore changes to this one that are liek the old one in the original starcraft? like more levels? earning upgrade money as you kill units rather then just one time after hand. and have bunch of plus damage upgrade rather then just liek 3 or 4? or the old combination method of cashing in guys to get special units. it could go along with ur idea of the aces bonus which i really like as an addition to the map.

Any chance you could republish it on EU?
1) Moving zerglings is archaic. Changing unit names to say something is also archaic. Instead, please make dialog buttons. Rather than naming the units "Ace," "King," "Queen," "Jack," etc., you should make a graphic of a card that has a picture of the unit, and this card should be displayed in a dialog. This will also remove the need for the camera to zoom back and forth.
1a) The list of poker hands across the bottom of the map should be replaced by a single dialog button that opens a description, OR a tip (or several) that have this information.
1b) The name of the units you receive being different (two pair :P) is great. That is more flavor/ambience. The archaic feeling comes from trying to convey important game information via a unit name, especially when that information can be conveyed in a more effective way.
2) This second one is less important, but I believe its a cool idea that would not be terribly hard (compared to creating the whole map :P). Since custom terrain textures can be imported, it'd be cool if the map looked a little like a casino, or some similarly appropriate setting/style. :)

On the tank and hellion stage some of the units only go around once and make you lose a life.
Also I was wondering if u could have some kind of alert to tell you remaining lives with out having to look at them or hotkey them.
