Mapster Madness
The idea behind this project is as following:
· A Hero Arena game
· Mapsters get their own custom hero with custom abilities
· It will be AWESOME!
The map is based on the style of play that SoTIS and DotA have, but with faster gameplay, shorter games, and less item-based. by killing enemies, you gain minerals (or credits or gold) that can be used to upgrade your hero.
There are 5 types (classes) of heroes.
Type 1 is a Spellcaster/Support Hero with at least 1 heal. It has a medium-fast movement speed (2.25 to 2.75), and a weak-medium attack. It has low to medium health (700-800).
Type 2 is a Tanking Hero. It has a slow-medium move speed (2.00 to 2.25), and a medium-strong attack. It has a great amount of health (1100-1200).
Type 3 is a DPS/Attacker Hero with mostly damage abilities. It has a fast move speed (2.5 to 2.75), and a strong attack. It has medium health (800-900).
Type 4 is a Summoner Hero with 2-6 summon. It has a medium-fast move speed (2.25 to 2.75), and a weak-medium or even no attack. It has medium health (800-900).
Type 5 is the Stealth Hero. It can be either cloaked when out of combat, or have a cloak ability. It has a very fast move speed (2.75 to 3.25), and a strong but slow attack. It has low to medium health (700-800).
Energy standard is 300. (can be upgraded) Ability count standard is 4.

Every hero should represent a mapster! (Example: Soul Filcher could be a voodoo-like Spellcaster hero with Mind Control, and Leech abilities. And have the model of Tosh.)

You know what? I think i'll just do a veterancy and then upgrades. Unit's becoming other units is weird.
OneTwo SC has a good tutorial on Heroes and Vetrancy that you should check out on his youtube channel. I just gave you an example of how you can make said hero. You can do as you like. I'm a protoss player and I like zealots :3
Normally you can initiated a model swap to be triggered in the data editor by an Upgrade Ability. You simply have to make a requirement for the upgrade based on the level of your hero and attach it to the upgrade....

Yeah, it was just to give an example. It might even be Marine > Marine > Marine if i just use different models. (Combat Shields, Tychus Marine)
I am glad someone else is actually interested.
Also when you level up a unit it doesn't make sense for a marine to evolve into a siege tank.... It would make more sense for example

When they upgrade they can become the Merc Marine Model, Merc Marauder Model, Merc Medic Model.
After reaching certain levels the units can gain a vehicle that only works when the unit is loaded into it. for example a Marine can be loaded into a goliath. you can even go as far as having the civilian load into a marine armor and unload out of it to go into a mech suit.
For Protoss the cycle could be Zealot

Apply dependency, create (or copy) a model, locate and select ZealotChef.m3 I can't remember if it's called ZealotChef.m3 but it might be...

Well I have developed a zealot hero already that is a strength attribute hero with an tank/initiator role. His element is Psionic Lightning... you can use different lightning models and attach them to the models psiblades etc through SiteOps Actors.
Ability 1:
Blades of Lightning: An instant ability... that enables Psionic Lightning Blades weapon through a buff being active at the unit for 15 seconds. The Psionic Blade weapons has the buff Shock. Shock has a 30% chance of stunning a target for a 5 second duration that can be stacked up to 4 times. Psionic Blade Lightning does an addtional 50 | 75 | 100 Spell damage to targeted unit.
Ability 2: Charge
> Same basic Zealot Charge. The cooldown duration is reduced per level upgrade.Ability 3: Blink Storm: Basically a blink ability that deals 50 | 75 | 100 in an AOE of the area where the zealot teleports to. 30% chance of inflicting shock that can stack with a shock buff inflicted by blades of lightning.
Ability 4: Psionic Shockwave: deals 100 | 150 | 200 AOE splash damage that diminishes depending on the location of enemy units from the source unit. Deals a knock back effect and stuns enemy units withing the AOE for 4 seconds. This move can be based off of the Hybrid Maar's abilities. Simply change the effect shockwave model to energy nova.
These abilities can easily be created using assets in the data forums and will make the zealot a good strength initiator/disable melee unit. :3 I omitted some other abilities I am using for this unit in my map.
To stack unit buffs be sure to define the limit of stacks under the Stats tab in the Buff Behavior as well as using the same behavior buff withing the (Apply Behavior) Buffs in each individual ability. Under the Behaviors tab be sure to check the appropriate boxes to refresh and stack unit buffs.

:3 another DOTA style map. I have been working on developing mines for a year with unique game concepts. Maybe you should design characters with abilities that allows certain units to play multiple roles. You should add some additional moba style game play roles as well... there are more then 4 classes and units in games like hon and dota2 sometimes can play multiple types of roles depending on the phase of the game and item builds.
I'd create some pretty unique heroes with neat custom abilities and unit models. :3 make my character into a zealot

In a dota style game to balance the cloak ability so it isn't OP.... you should create a validator in which cloak acts like RIkimaru in DOTA and you are only cloak while your unit isn't attacking. I suppose the stealth class in your game will be limited to melee units like dark templar, ghosts, and zealots...
Also all classes should have an equal amount of abilities and the abilities should have stackable buffs as well as complement each other when it comes to defining the units role.
Also are you creating a community project in which mapsters submit their own heroes with abilities via mod files :3

Good idea with custom resources.
Lol I was just about to comment about that other project when I saw you used my hero as an example! Here's one suggestion, use custom 'resources'. I think Credits would make much more sense than minerals.
